merf 97 thanks dude. Been burnt out for 3 months. I want to get back on learning tricks. This has made me learn to take it slow and remember why I started.
If this kid cant skate down his driveway how tf is he gunna power slide or even use his heel or tail like fr think about the situation. Just thinking about how i learned
No. 1 sounds like what Bruce Lee once said: "I fear not the man who practices 10,000 kicks at once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times".
I'm just turned 36 today and haven't skated since probable early 2000's I jumped on one the other day and landed an Ollie, a kick flip, and a heal flip. If my old ass can do it. You can too!
Age is a state of mind. Old man here as well. Been skating since the mid/late 80s. My problem is I skated half pipes and pools for the longest time, so when I eventually went to earn street tricks, I was like damn this is hard. Still can't do more than a few basic flips but still work on them when when I get the urge.
So true, being a souls veteran teaches you the staple of skill in anything you do in life, you'll rarely be good at anything first go, but don't think too hard and keep up the repetition and you'll be a pro by your thousandth attempt, something like that anyway haha
Nice job try to practice Ollies for one day and the next day if you still get it first try, your muscle memory is v strong and you can move to advanced tricks but so far gj bro
"You just landed your first ollie..you just did something that 7 billion other people on this planet can't do." Damn let that sink in *3 years later edit* holy shit why this got so many likes damn lmao
+Eugene Hunter you could not be more wrong hahah such an IDIOT! you have ran before, right? Then you know how fast you are and know you can't run as fast as usain bolt... these people have never tried to Ollie or even been on a skateboard so whose to say they can't ollie
Not even kidding, try wearing a helmet, inee and shoulder pads. With those on you feel invincible or over protected, and you will go out of your comfort zone and can improve confidence
43 just getting back into skating after 25yrs and some bad injuries. Appreciated your vid and sage advice. Ive been skating in my house (freakin slippery)and practicing on a board with no trucks in my room to gain muscle memory atm Trying to get my kids off computer games, only way is to lead by example.
@@charleswhitemarketing9288 hi man..just getting comfortable controlling thr board around empty carparks late at night..im very far to learning tricks to be honest but thats ok..im happy to take it slow..how about u?
I know, right? I watch Aaron Kyro, and it just looks so effortless. But he's been skating for over 20 years, while I've only spent about 30 days actually on my board, he should be better than me! I record all my stuff, and honestly, when I'm editing my videos for upload, that help motivate me because I see little things to work on, and I just want to get out there and try again!
You and Aaron both inspired me to start skateing, I’ve started skating for almost a month now and I’ve found somthing that I can learn well and be progressing at, I love it ❤️
I got an ollie a few times after practicing 1000 times when I first got my skateboard a few months ago. I skipped one day, tried again and lost it. I gave up and haven't skated in a few months loll I'm so unmotivated but want to skate super bad at the same time
I've been skating and got an ollie plus a few other skills (not tricks) whoo B^) >> I'm hesitant to go to the skate park, I might be in the way of experienced skaters..
i lost all my motivation havent skated in a month now and im just a begginer have my olllies down and im halfway trough fs 180 edit: thank u for the motivation im going to go skate right now
Hey, keep going! I'm a beginner too and just getting consistent with my ollies. I keep rotating backwards and i've fallen off the board so many times at this point. But the automn has come and there's less and less time to skate for me because of constant raining and temperature going down every week. But I go out and skate whenever I get a chance. Just keep going, baby stepping even! And have fun while doing it! Because that's what matters!
Hey I've been at it for a year and I'm 40. up until now I pretty much only practiced my basic tricks stand still. Started hitting the pavement recently (pretty much in the literal sense) and falling all the time. I do it for the fun though, and the key to that is to be alright if it doesn't work out. It's alright not to skate when you don't feel like it. As long as you want it you'll get it. Don't make it a competition. In skateboarding you don't have to.
Yellow Gamer Hey man I was the same. I've been skating for around 4 years but I was really casual about it and progressed really slow. The last couple months I got completely bummed out by skating and thought of quiting. But you can't. You can't give up. Like VL said, take a break when you need it, but don't give up. Even if you only skate once or twice a month, as long as you enjoy that time, then you're enjoying skateboarding.
Yeah Jed I agree. There are few things I enjoy doing in life (besides skating) I like playing music and painting, but as soon as the things you love become a responsibility or you're being pressured into doing it, no matter how much you love it you will hate it in the end after a surprisingly short amount of time. It's the same for skating. If you force yourself and make it feel like a job you will hate it. This is all my own personal experience/opinion though, but I found if I skate only when I feel like it then I do much better than when I said I HAVE TO PRACTICE. And those callings come much more often if you let them happen organically too. Bottom line is: Skate for yourself and no one else. Also, the skateboarding community is the most understanding and respectful community of that philosophy than any other field. props to you guys that shred it, never made me feel bad about being old and a beginner, never.
Thanks for this video man! I started last year at 49 years old. I'm 50 and still at it. This was great because it's not that I am getting discouraged but I need to push myself a little harder and commit to learning to ollie. I can ollie a little holding onto a railing(gotta start somewhere)but need to start going for it! Your vids on that subject are great too. Thanks again and keep 'em coming!
Just read this in 2022 and it would be really interesting if youre still skating, i started out like 2 days ago and i fell and it felt like i broke my ass and my whole soul but i kept going a little and then i was a little discouraged to go out earlier this evening but i took my board and did it anyways, found a little spot too which was really nice!
I really needed this, have been trying to holly a small curb and felt like it was taking forever and still can't but i will try it tomorrow a million more times
You actually taught me something. Not only I learned something from skateboarding but always of a way of thinking. Keep posting man you really changed my perspective.
i wouldnt consider myself a beginner but i still like watching all your videos! u explain everything straight up and simple. which is exactly what a beginner needs
Thanks for the advice makes a lot of sense. I am 35 and just got back into skating and I must say it’s tough now that I am older but this helps a lot. Great video thanks for sharing!!!!
I'm getting a skateboard 4 7 days, damn i really can't wait. I've wanted to skate since a long time ago, been watching a ton of skate videos and knowing that I'll have it 4 less than 10 days is such a great feeling uptade: i now skate, i learned how to ollie the other day
That last bit sounds like advice from mindfulness - the way we frame things completely changes our perception. Coming back to skating at 40 years old after not skating for over 15 years I have been surprised to learn how effective this kind of wisdom is.
Yeah but in fact this summer I fell and I broke my feet, so I couldn't skate for a while and now when I have to try some trick I just can't move because I'm scared, but yeah, I will continue trying. I will learn how to fall, maybe it will help me. Thanks
Devilsdabs 666 oh you know, maybe landed on their feet sideways, kicked the ground badly when they fell, idk doesn’t seem that hard to break your feet.
I couldn't agree more. Best advice ever! I've been doing all these mistakes for a year: landing a few ollies, then tried thousands of kickflips never landing a single one. I've done this for hours and hours, going crazy, losing my motivation. In the end it was more like "work" rather than "pleasure". I would just add one thing: don't stay in the same skating spot, especially when you can't land something, otherwise you'll start hating this spot.
Thx so much for this vid! I'm just a beginner and it gets super frustrating when the only thing you can land is skating off a curb. This video gives me motivation to never give up.
i love you dude, i was feeling down cause I'm a beginner and I feel like I'm terrible at skateboarding, your videos just gave me a lot of motivation to get better at it cause i know with hard work i can do it :')
I know this video is old but dude, your content is really good man. Seriously. I’m glad I started skating again and I’m glad I found your channel. Love what your doing!
This video helped me less with skateboarding but more with the piano, it taught me to not rush every single song and to learn every single key by muscle memory so I can learn the both normal tunes and bass. Thx anyway’
Lovely video, I’m 33 and decided to pick up a board that was laying around just to stop driving around so much, my brother used to be really good and I had some bad fall and just gave up but this is the year I shred it ❤
@@ttitskateboardingedits4408 wow, nice I didn't got to do kickflip because I have the worst board no good concave and any of that still saving though :)
@@charlescampugan2297 yeah man remember did it when I was in a competition bit like kotr was good fun yeah fair one check on my edits some strange skating lol
Zetrah that means, approximatelly, shit. Considering the huge amounts of variations there are in board, trucks and wheels size and materials that comes down to preference your board can't be that heavy that you're unable to learn.
Thank you. This inspired me to get back into skating. I'm a snowboarder and I've been doing it for 13 years now and I kinda tried to give up skating bc I was pissed but this helps. Thanks bro
great constructive critisim, i am a begginer i've been skating for 2 months and i learned how to ollie and shuvit stationary, now i am trying to do them in motion skateboarding is a very fun activity cheers , keep the good videos
when i was learning to skateboard back in middle school i definitely made all of these mistakes honestly i feel like this is super solid advice to follow when pursuing any other thanks guy
Great advice. I havent skated in about 5 years and it is so engrained into me that i can still do most of the tricks i learned over years and years of practice
The whole try learning new tricks tip helps a lot for me. I end up screwing around a lot with switch and nollie tricks. I still cant kickflip regular, but I just learned nollie hardflip, so hey there's that
This inspired me a lot because am a begginer I sometimes feel like giving up then I see videos and they are way better than me but you said what you should be doing is getting inspired
Thanks VLSkate,I'm a beginnerI it's already three months since I started skating.I already know how to ollie, nollie shove it,and to hand flip,But I always get frustrated when it comes on learning some tricks for example how to 180 and to kickflip, which really tires me up and almost gave up on skateboarding. And there is this attitude of mine like for example I try a new trick but with less effort and less sweat but make sure I should learn this only for a day,and then a day passes and I still couldn't land it correctly after that I GIVE UP.But there is always this saying on my head that says "GREAT SACRIFICE COMES GREAT VICTORY". Your advice on your video just motivated me and it just made me more confident.Tommorow I promise to myself that I will be more confident and with less hurryon some tricks,I'll start again with the basics which is how to ollie.
