here: 😊 1. using comedogenic ingredients (coconut oil, coco butter, and lanolin) 2. sun damage ( not using spf breaks collagen & elastin which sags the pores) 3. not exfoliating 4. unbalanced oil production 5. poor diet (ex: too mich sugar causes inflammation)
There’s so much information out there about pores! FYI, this video went up early on accident, so give me a second to get to your comments. I wasn’t ready!
Sorry to be so off topic but does someone know a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
Since I am using a Glycolic acid toner and occasionally an AHA intense exfoliator, omg my skin is so nice, pores are tight and my skin is firm and soft, no more crusty dryness. I also use retinoids and vitamin C along with a good moisturizer.
I always tell my clients that if they want good skin, they need to invest in it! That also means invest their time on education around the skin and skincare products. Not to just go by what social media influencers love to use... *rolls eyes*
Totally, I used to buy a lot of products but once I started seeing my aesthetician, my skin has drastically improved by just getting a monthly facial & the products work WAY better.
@ 8:09 "it's usually a guy" haha I had a boyfriend once who had a huuuuuge blackhead on his nose and he let me pop it and it left a huge hole in his nose! that's how big it was. The hole went away though thank god.
Lela Online from personal experience i use the Pacifica creamy coconut cleanser and it saved my skin and i used to have cystic acne and i have dry dry acne prone skin (basically just a mess lol)
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 07:20 EXFOLIATE ✨ chemical (toners and AHA/BHA) exfoliating is better than physical (scrubs ) Or go to an aesthetician to extract all that make up and gunk 12:20 Light at the end of the tunnel is RETINAL or RETINOID ( helps with collagen production)
Hi Susan, you mentioned you use a chemical exfoliant 5 days a week. How do you incorporate retinols into your routine? Do you use retinol and exfoliating acids together? Thank you!
Susan, please consider watching ladylike’s new video “I made my own skincare products for a month” I want to know what you think and what you would do different! :)
Hi Susan. I've been using The Ordinary.0.5% retinol with squaline, for about 4 months now. And since I've started using it I've been getting a lot of 'little pimples', which I never used to get. I would get an occasional pimple here and there which I'm guessing was hormonal. I started the retinol to help with texture and doing a chemical exfoliation but now I have these constant little pimples to deal with. Any advice please?
Priaanti Thakre hydrate hydrate hydrate! you should be drinking half your weight a day. (ex: if you weigh 100lbs then you’ll be drinking 50 oz of water a day) if you wear makeup then switch to hydrating products, wear sunscreen!! don’t exfoliate often either, if you have oily skin then i suggest only exfoliating once a week because teen skin is sensitive and still changing due to our hormones.
@@priaantithakre4445 and moisturize!! I never used to moisturize because I thought I didn't have to with oily skin, but you really do! And if you have acne, try the Aztec clay mask-it's amazing.
So you've mentioned silicones and specifically dimethicone a couple of times in relation to clogged pores I have been trying to avoid it. But I work in a drugstore where we sell some high end brands like Estee Lauder, clinique, Lancome etc and all of the serums I've checked have somekind of silicone in it, so what can you use of you shouldn't use those? Cause I'm a student at uni and can't afford the world so I generally just use what I get from the store to try out but those tend to clog my pores :(
A silicone free serum I've found is the vitamin c one from Sephora Collection. Some moisturizers I've found is the hydrate and repair from Sephora Collection and skinactive with rosewater from Garnier.
@@sakthisanjanap I get whiteheads too sometimes. For me as long as it's just a few and only occasionally and because they usually heal in a few days it's fine I wouldn't go on a pursuit to conquer them. If it's like more chronic I'd then be more alert with what i consume, less sugar and avoid dairy, and then be minimalistic with my skincare, and spot treat. But I know this isnt my beauty channel, lol.
Everyone says that dehydration will show up on your skin and of course there are many benefits to drinking it, but by the time drinking not enough water shows up on your skin, you will be dead from dehydration first. So that is just parroting something people have been saying forever to get to nr. 5
What’s everyone’s opinion on cheaper sheet masks? (Like ones you can buy in the line at forever 21 etc) I always get freaked out by them because I assume they are full of cheap products but they seem to be quite popular
Can you please do a skin care dos and don’t for PREGNANCY? Like what is safe, what isn’t, what is beneficial for hormonal break outs, pigmentation etc... Thank you! Love your channel!
Pores actually don't open/close and as a result can't tighten because they're not muscles so I'm pretty sure that's false. Perhaps they feel "tightened" because it's cold and you "feel" less sensation
Anne Worawan I don’t find The Ordinary retinoid products very effective. Differin is a good OTC option if you have acne but it’s a retinoid (adapalene to be specific) not OTC retinol. The best affordable one is hands down The Inkey List retinol serum. It’s a very effective 1% treatment that’s excellent for anti aging, texture, and more.
Hi susan 😊 i have been binging on your videos and learning a lot from them💜 i recently saw a article about dermatologists saying to skip moisturizer because our skin has natural moisturizer and if you use other moisturizer then your skin becomes depended on it, i would love to hear your thoughts about this as i have been using moisturizers recently and idk if i should stop?? Thank you so much 💜💜💜
hey i'm gabe there is no evidence to support that skin becomes “dependent” on skincare though of course as with anything you need to continue to use skincare to continue the benefits
Your videos have been so informative and helpful for me! You can count me as a loyal subscriber now! I would really love to see a review of Fourth Ray Beauty (ColourPop's skin care line) because it's SUPER affordable and I wanna know if it's actually good quality skincare!
I love how you share the wealth of your knowledge. I feel like historically the beauty industry is so consumed with making a profit that it false advertises and markets really bad things for our skin health..20 years from now 90% of what we do is going to be wrong....:/ Thank you for the info! :)
I get laser hair removal on my face and it has made a significant difference in the appearance of my pores and skin texture. Laser hair removal on my face is the best decision I’ve ever made to improve the appearance of my skin.
@@nicoledelrosario7631 hi i hope i can help. i try micro needling several times alrdy, but just as facial you cant do it just once or twice. because face keep producing oils and like susan said can get easily cloged and appeared large.. so i do micro needling once every 2-3months. and loving the result
Anastasia Julaidi Hello I’m planning to have my micro needling on thursday because my dermatologist said that it would help my pores to appear smaller and have less oily face
Which kind of “fake” retinoids can I use while pregnant? You mentioned them a couple times in other videos, but did you find any that were actually a good replacement for your pre-pregnancy retinol? I’m struggling trying to find one that’s safe, but actually does something.
Its nice i used it on my kids on ein second grade and other one is kg my sister used it too its chemical free really nice soft it’s really help of ir skin is sensitive because its chemical free
I have just brought the Nip+Fab purify teen skin range. Would you been able to do a review of the line and talk about weather or not it’s ok for you to use. I cannot find anything about it
Lucas G I can’t find anything without fragrance so I would skip for that reason alone. Cerave SA cleanser and PM lotion can be used by all ages and is free of irritants.
Mira Parker thank you for your reply. I noticed the fragrance but I don’t have sensitive skin so personally it does not bother me. I have been using the line now since Friday ( a week now) my skin has cleared up drastically. I’m going to give it a few more weeks and if I notice any irritation I’m going to stop use
My face does not release a lot of oil except for my nose. My nose it always oily, is there a way to fix that.(I do moisturize in my skin care routine and I also use spf every morning)
Lord Remi it’s hard to answer without knowing your full skincare routine. The T zone does tend to be more oily. Make sure you’re not stripping the skin when you cleanse. Something like The Ordinary niacinamide and zinc serum may help some.
Hi Susan! Love your videos so much! I’m wondering if you could review the Summer Fridays CC Me Vitamin.C serum, and Murad AHA/BHA cleanser! I trust you and your opinion 1000% and would love to hear what you think before I get them! Thank you! Cheering you on for 1M subs. I recommend your channel to everyone!!
One comment on dimethicone, Susan. It is an occlusive, so it's purpose is to keep things from getting out of the skin (like hydration) and keeping things getting in (like bacteria). Unfortunately, if you are also producing oil (in other words everyone) too much of an occlusive barrier on the skin can clog your pores, yes. But please don't make people think dimethicone is bad, because its occlusive properties can be very helpful to people with dehydrated skin or anyone suffering from transepidermal water-loss (hydration leaving the skin basically).
A big thing for me that I only recently learned in m early 30s is the difference between a blackhead and a sebaceous filament. I spent years trying to squeeze out filaments and I have a few little broken capillaries on my nose now 😭
My pores look so much better after two things. 1. Salicylic face wash in the morning every other day. 2. Double cleanse at night. I was only using cold cream at night which is made mostly of mineral oil. It definitely leaves a residue. Now I wash the residue off with a cleanser like Cerave or Cetaphil.
I tried using coconut oil on my cystic acne- prone skin because it was dried out from the topical acne meds I was using. Big mistake. I think I tried it because I saw some natural blog about how good it was. Our skin is not created equal, even if you have the same skin “type.” What works for me and my acne prone skin may not work for others with acne prone skin.
I'm reminded to emulsify my oil cleanser when I watch your cleanser videos. My pores were getting clogged because I was skipping the emulsification step. Once I resumed, my pores started to clear up.
I started to use skincare products because I wanted smooth skin but then I started getting lots of pimples and whiteheads... I then just stopped using any products and only washed my face when I was in the shower (only using water and sometimes shower gel). My skin has been clear and smooth ever since...
Hi Susan! I have a really quick question. What are your thoughts on witch hazel and other astringents for people with combination/ oily skin? I am not sure if it will be too drying for my skin similar to the effects of drying alcohols. (I would ask the question on Instagram dm's but sadly I don't have an account. ) Thank you!
ash if it’s the pure witch hazel brand it’s full of alcohols and way to stripping for your skins barrier, as an ingredient in a product it is good though
Hi Beautiful! A recent new Subscriber here, my name is Liz ☺️ I had a question, would you say using products that are meant to pull out build up from pores, such as nose strips and some harsh peel off masks tear the pores to some degree making them actually larger? I’m always trying to keep my pores clear but have begun to steer clear from using those type of products because I felt like it actually made my pores appear larger after and I had to clear them more often. 🤷🏻♀️ Great Video!! Thanks for All the Insight!! 🌸
Lizzy Satterfield Yes, I have the same question. In the past I used the Biore nose strips in high school (ages ago!), and I think that was the stuff that made my pores appear larger.
My skin still not found the right moisturizer yet, so i replace it with humectant essence that feels really hydrating on my skin, so far its the best way rather than letting my skin got so many bumpies(bcs of the moisturizer). So its replaacing my moisturizer with humectant essence will be okay?
Im a 15 yd female and I want to know when is the time to get a full skincare routine including like exfoliator serum oil based cleansor etc because so far I only use a cleanser and a light lotion year round and my mom says I'm too young to have a full on skincare routine so I really want to when is the right time to get one.
susan, im a newbie in aha, (i used one before but at a veryyyyy low percent from cosrx aha bha treatment toner) is it okay for me to use the ordianry 7% glycolic acid toning solution? i felt like the cosrx one was starting to be too mild for me and didnt rlly do much but i cant rlly find anything between 3-5% aha (or at least within the brand that im famililar with) so i wonder if 7% is too much
You mentioned not using coconut oil on your face, i would never put coconut oil itself on my face but I was looking into using a serum with 5 oils, and one of them is coconut oil.
