I would recommend using a good dash mat to protect it. The sun destroys everything. I did and it does a great job.

I have a '95 4WD Suburban and just installed a dash skin about two weeks ago. I'm also in DFW, and the heat does take its toll. My original dash wasn't in too bad of shape...large crack down the middle and the three screw mounts were also cracked and no longer held the dash in place. I first used window caulking to close the large crack stop the rattling, but it didn't look very good, and had one smaller crack along the lip of the dash. I first dry fitted the dash skin to check the fit, then removed it and applied the silicone RTV per the instructions...went in like a charm and really makes a difference in the look of the truck, plus no more vibrations and rattling. If someone is goi g to look at buying a dash skin,I'd recommend getting a second tube of the silicone RTV...I used almost both entire tubes. The only thing I had to 'fix' was to dremel a tiny bit off the dash skin where the fuse cover pops in...fuse cover kept popping off...made a little shave and all is good. Great product...highly recommend Dask Skin. The color match (tan) was perfect. Don't know about your screw mounts...mine just fit into place like the factory and the screws went right in.

Hey brother! Thank you for the update video. I just installed mine yesterday, was fairly easy and straight forward. Getting it into place before the silicone set up too far was a pain, had to add some extra silicone to the cover itself because my dash was really bad, lots of cracks and missing pieces. So sometime today I will be taking off the weights and seeing how it all came out. Thanks again for the update, now I know what to expect over some time in the future! Have a good day man!!

Good Morning William, not a problem at all. That was one of the challenges I had as well was making sure that I applied a good amount of silicone in the needed areas of the existing dashboard.

Yuh did a good job ! I was wonderin if there was any rattle from the old one underneath. Or does the skin add enough pressure on it to not tell ?
@williamgeorge3858
@williamgeorge3858 2 года назад
@@BigMike1999 Not a single noise from mine. I cleaned the dash with windex glass cleaner because it has ammonia. I used Gorilla Permanent tape on all the cracks and pieced it back together the best I could. Then used the supplied RTV adhesive plus some extra black RTV adhesive for added grip and to make sure I had no rattles later on. The main thing to remember to do is punch/poke the holes for the top of the dash where it connects to the firewall. Have those holes done, remove the screws from the dash and get the skin ready to put into place. Install it, have some help from a friend, get it pressed into place and snug, then put your screws back into the top of the dash, this will help you A LOT with keeping the dash together when the adhesive sets up and is ready. Make sure to put weight down on the dash and also on the sides. I used Masking tape for the edges to keep them in place. Best of luck to you!

Thanks, I don't have your truck, but have a TL with a cracked dash and the "carpet" is just dumb compared to how good your dash looks, looks great and thanks for posting.

Thanks. If you were to do it again, could you put padding under the screw hole areas to keep it from dropping so much???

I have the same problem! What helps a lot is to put UV protection and an eyebrow on your windshield. I got a 98 tahoe 4x4!

Thanks for the video Mr. Jones, I'm about to install one on my 1998 C1500. Question for you......I see you have installed a aftermarket stereo with a nice size screen. May I ask which stereo that is and the screen size?
@lawjo1978
@lawjo1978 11 месяцев назад
Hey Bruce, Thanks for the feedback. That's a Pioneer AVH-2500 NEX. And I want to say that the screen size is right about 7 inches

My truck's dash rattles constantly, do you think this might make that stop or at least quiet that down?

Those dashboard hold-down clips under the screws…did you buy those or make them? If you bought them, can you tell me how to find them? Thanks for the video.

The dashboard hold down clips. I bought those through classic industries.

Nice , I’m looking to do that to my Tahoe, but now I’m curious about your infotainment system in the dash? Where to find? , thanks

Hey Bob, Thanks for the comment. I actually went through Amazon for the infotainment system. It's a nice sounding unit and it was priced quite good

Thanks, where did you get your truck painted? I have a 2003 Silverado and a 2005 Yukon that need paint across the whole top from bumper to bumper.
@lawjo1978
@lawjo1978 Год назад
Thank you. It's a paint and body shop called Dentmax that painted it. Unfortunately I'm having some issues with the roof and the top of hood. It looks eggshell white now. Now I'm gonna have to get it corrected

Thanks, I’m shopping around right now. Don’t wanna spend to much but also want it to last for a while.
@lawjo1978

@LARa8ter I totally understand that one. I wouldn't rule out a franchised owned Maaco. That could be a option to look unto

I bought the carpet version but Im not sure if that looks the best on a 94 OBS

Hey Perry, Thanks for the feedback. I had almost bought a dash carpet cover for my Suburban. I had went through almost 3 summers here in Texas and it's has held up quite well with the dashskin

Hey buddy does this dash skin lock the bezel in? My top dash is Doritos lol the lock in clips are broken for the bezel so it makes the whole dash shake a little I just don’t wanna get the cover if the bezel won’t lock in
@lawjo1978
@lawjo1978 Год назад
Hey Joseph, the dash bezel will lock in as if it was from factory. You will have to drill 3 holes for the 7mm bolts where it mounts near the windshield

Hey Perry, the last time I checked with them they were doing the 88-94 dash assemblies. I didn't know they were doing the 95-and up model years
