The first tip is the most valuable to me. I never thought to lower the retention bar. I just tuned the string a little flat before I locked down the nut. Thank you for making this video.
I have been watching your Beatles isolated vocals youtube video's for years thinking wow this guy is not only an amazing singer but also breaks down each harmony like a champ and mimics the timbre of each of the fab fours tone with terrific execution. Little did I know that you could also solve my Floyd Rose tuning issues on my '94 fender talon where countless others offered no viable solution. Great channel. I wouldn't be surprised if I searched for an "Osso Buco recipe" or "How to back butter porcelain tiles with grout and your channel came up in a google search.
Good video, I've seen most of these problems, wish I had your video back then. I even returned a guitar because of open string buzz. Because of Luthiers like you I went from being afraid to adjust my truss rod to fully re-fretting a 1984 Kramer. Thanks for all you do!!

Fantastic video thank you! After years of frustration playing Gibson, Fender, PRS, and other guitars that would not stay in tune, now I only play Floyd Rose guitars. This design is complex and does require a specific knowledge base to maintain tuning and intonation, but from my experience playing guitar for 50+ years the effort required to learn how to fix the issues presented in this video is a small price to pay for perfect tuning and intonation! I just discovered your channel and solved 2 things i couldn't understand because i'm only 2 years into guitars.I'm very curious by nature and always liked to understand what i'm working on whether it's at work or in my hobby,i like to fix things the right way so imagine how grateful i am to have found why the open string buzz or the string coming sharp when locking the nut.A big big thank to you for sharing your knowledge.
Floyd Rose was created to solve one problem of keeping the guitar in tune but the solution creates 10 other problems to keep Floyd Rose happy. It's sad.
Actually | was surprised to find out that in practice it was super easy to work with FR compared to calibrating a vintage six-point to please you while not going out of pitch easily. If you have a good OFR/Edge type and a good setup to begin with, it's peanuts, really. They stay in tune as well as any unabused fixed bridge even when heavily abused, if all is setup ok. I love my OFR-equipped Ibanez RG (don't ask why OFR) :)
@@deliberate570 take like a whole day if you have to and research how the floyd rose works from a mechanical standpoint it makes troubleshooting your bridge much easier
I love you man!!! This buzz from the open high E was driving me nuts, but this trick helped. Pushing the string to one side didn't help, but pushing it to the other did solve the problem. Simple solution, but big relief. Huge thanks!!!
Just restringed my Floyd Rose and was super happy to find this video to solve all the problems I am having. I definitely didn't screw my string retainer enough and I had a bit of a tuning change when locking the strings in.
the very first fix - the lowering the string retaining bar - seems to have solved my issue. I never even considered this! You've saved my live guitar from potentially expensive messing around. Thank you!

This was the best video I have ever found explaining this stuff. This is the stuff people need to know. Once I learned how to set up a Floyd confidently ...I have no preference of guitar anymore. You have no Idea how many people ask me what a string retainer is for other then looks and when I explain it, it works as a solid conversation piece because its actually quite clever. I just wish the Floyd was as easy as a tune-o-matic to intonate. Takes a bit longer but if your into setting up guitars then I assume it's widely agreed that it's like meditation anyways. Great video!.
I got the new Schecter Floyd Rose 1500 on my Reaper this helped me with some issues....not a lot of instructions with the guitar but I love it. May God bless you for your generosity!

4:47 The 3rd problem applies to the Bridge too, the same thing happened to me, and I broke a lot of strings because of that, I just sanded the sharp part and now it's perfect, also if you want better tunning stability you need to set-up the whole guitar.
Good video. I love my Floyd Rose! I wanted to point out a problem I had. Mine would make a "click" sound when you pressed down the arm. Drove me crazy. Sometimes it would go away. Couldn't tell where it was coming from. Sounded like it was the springs or the bridge hitting the pick guard. In that area, or maybe the bolt on neck complaining, but it was not. It was those screws that hold on the nut. They were loose, so the whole nut was moving when I pressed down on the tremolo arm. Since most nuts are glued in place, I didn't think about it until I started doing some online research. Fixed it last night after suffering with it for years. Works great now. Smooooth and silent!! Never did have any tuning issues. Maybe that will help someone out. Cheers!

I don't know if you will be able to see this comment but Since my very first floydrose guitar from my highschool days, and after 10 years your videos have been the perfect solution for my guitars equiped with floating trems. Seriously mate,do you have 10 thumbs?Even when I was a complete novice I had no problems with my Floyd.Compared to a standard trem they are a dream.Only a total moron would complain.If you have trouble keeping a Floyd in tune,then maybe guitar is not for you.
No,I'm neither.They are pretty idiot proof.I just can't understand the complete lack of common sense and tinkering ability that some people have.Fancy returning a guitar because you can't get a Floyd to work.

I had a really young guy part-exchange a Dean Razorback in my shop for a Schecter. He just couldn't get along with the Floyd, but I feel that the shop that sold it to him (he was a complete newbie) should have made it crystal clear what the difference was, and that he would need to familiarise himself with the system. It freaked him out and he just wanted rid of it...
