I like that this is a relatively small channel with a smaller community, and a smaller comments section. It’s so high quality too. I like that I got here before it explodes, it makes me feel like one of the founding fathers of this community.
I could listen to your voice/accent all day! Seriously, I enjoy your videos. You might have explained positive/negative symptoms of psychosis. I know what you mean, but others might not have.
Personality disorders not illnesses. They are descriptions of patterns of behavior. People get confused because they often are co morbid with an illness, but they are not the illness.
I agree. I know more people diagnosed with a personality disorder than anything else where I live today. I found it incredibly surprising. Went to get treatment because I was experiencing new mood symptoms, previously diagnosed with severe treatment resistant major depression, and got discharged with a personality disorder with no treatment for the mood symptoms. Psychiatrist wouldn’t even let me talk about them.
I would like to know if years of rotating shifts and the consequences of sleep deprivation can cause mental illness, with symptoms of extreme anger issues. The mining industry is rife with suicides and is mostly responsible I’m sure for a lot of relationship breakdowns.
One of the other symptoms of mania is rage and irritability. Can you also do a post on side effects of medication please? (lots of side effects!) I have drug induced Parkinsonism from medication.
4:36 bruh is retelling my life, I used play ping pong but ever since happened to me I dont wanna play no more. but i think i have like psychosis lol not depression
You have a lovely voice and are excellent at explaining mental illness. Some treatments I didn’t hear you mention were lithium (if I missed it, forgive me) gabapentin, and various magnetic and electric treatments. Can you do a show on TMS, deep brain stimulation, EXT and other physical interventions?
Does saying 1/2 the population has a mental illness sometimes in their lives, not demute the significance of serious chronic mental illnesses? It is a slippery slope. If Jim got over his depressive episode with brief counseling, then Janet should, too. One could easily think Janet should get over chronic bipolar like, Jim did with his illness. I'm not negating Jim. Even short or brief episodes of unipolar depression can become debilitating and chronic. It's not diagnosed as major depression until a second episode. There has to be a way to explain brief single episodes vs. more serious and chronic illnesses. This is true with multiple symptoms and levels of impairment. I doubt half the population has serious mental illness that impacts daily living on a disability level. I do feel for anyone going through anything. Even mild and transient symptoms can have a life changing impact on people. It's hard to determine who will reach full recovery and who won't. The quantity vs. quantity of symptoms is another factor. It tricky. I hope I'm expressing my concerns clearly and compassionately. I have multiple mental health diagnoses and have been in treatment for about +/- 20 years. It's taken a long time to get accurately diagnosed and treated. (I'm still in treatment. )
