These are things one should learn with experience and time. We got indulged in adopting western culture so much that we forgot who we are and where we came from. For Ellora temple it was carved out from a single Rock from upside down and at that time Indian Artisans were so much talented because of the spiritual process happening around the country. They constructed this temples using hand carvings so it is much possible that so many people were working on the field.

2. My personal experience , even though the temple is quite a ways away from shoreline , there is a very fine beach like sand inside the temple. Even to this day the temple is mainly run by thr Royals of Travencore who call themselves the workers of padmanabha swamy ( one who has lotus emerging from his belly button) and that He is the Ruler and rightful owner of the land. A story goes by that when Vishnu's idol was being placed , it refused to move towards the sanctum until someone added shivalinga, thereby destroying ideologies which said they were any different from one another.( at a time when shivaites n vaishnavites fought for uper hand) The Hanuman inside gets a coat of butter everyday n it remains without melting until it hits our hands!!

Also known as periya kovil( THE BIG TEMPLE OF TANJORE , IT EVEN HAS A SMALLER SCALE REPLICA IN A NEARBY TOWN KNOWN AS GANGAI KONDA CHOLA PURAM) WE ARE ALSO TOLD THAT THIS TEMPLE DOESNT CAST SHADOW /IT FALL MANY MILES AWAY. THE KUMBAM (PRONOUNCED AS KOO) IS A SINGLE ROCK. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT IT LOOKS AWESOME ON A FULLMOON NIGHT.
