David Reutimann will always be my favorite back marker driver ever. His MWR career with 2 wins in cup makes me so happy to know he had talent, but sad to know that he never really had a chance with a top team
Talent?? At some point in NASCAR they dyno'd a bunch of the engines and found that Reutimann had the highest power, all while consistently finishing in the top 30.
NASCARFAN93100 I met him in a charity even in my hometown Zepryhills Florida in 2010 and I have a hat and die cast car he signed for me he’s such a humble guy
Cool video but I totally remember Reutimann. Him in the 00 car for Michael Waltrip racing, he always was an underdog to root for. That Chicago win was awesome
I can honestly say i always felt David Reuittman got a really raw deal by MWR. A lot of people forget David had an opportunity to leave MWR in 2010 and choose to stay out of loyalty to Micheal just to get kicked out a year later
Cameron Hayley is kind of a sore spot for me because I always wanted a Canadian to root for in the top level of NASCAR and I felt he had the talent to go much further than he did. At least now there's Stewart Friesen.
I never forgot about Casey Atwood I always did root for him..I thought he had a chance to maybe get his career back on track in 2004 but then got kicked out of the ride which is bs because he was outperforming Fedewa and doing alright. Darn shame honestly I don't feel like Evernham gave him enough time to develop either in my opinion.
I got to see David Reutimann compete in a regional Outlaw Sprint car series at a little track called Bronson Speedway in Bronson, Florida just prior to his first season with Michael Waltrip. He was seriously fast. Ran away from everyone and looked like he had an extra 200 horsepower.
Dannyb great job as always i love this series its always nice to see and refresh my mind of drivers that i have forgotten and some that i havent! Keep up the good work
Atwood's career was derailed by Evernham's decision to move him from the #19 to the Ultra #7. Casey and crew chief Sammy Johns seemed to have good chemistry at the end of 2001, with Top 10s at Michigan, Dover, and a career best of 3rd at Homestead after leading 52 laps. He also won the pole, led 71 laps, and recovered from a flat tire to finish 14th at Phoenix. Together, they massacred a 265 point deficit to the 25th position to finish just 24 points behind Robert Pressley. If Casey and Sammy had been kept together, they may have found Victory Lane.
Have you done Chad Little and Patty Moise? A married NASCAR couple and she actually went faster than Elliott but wasn’t counted because it wasn’t an “official “ scored lap. Who can forget Chads green John Deere car!
Thank you for putting the time and effort in that it takes to make these videos while also doing your job. People that don’t make RU-vid content don’t really understand what goes into it, I’m a big fan and appreciate your content. I’m thinking of making a channel centered around NASACR die-cast
Casey Atwood never struck me as someone who was the makings of a legend, he only won a couple of races in the Busch Series! It's just that the media and some fans looked at how young he was when he got those wins and said, "yeah, he's the next Jeff Gordon". If Casey had been allowed to progress without those kinds of expectations, his career may have turned out better. Of course he didn't do himself any favors either by not putting in the effort to mesh with his Cup team.
You know how you might not have known who Shawna Robinson is without NASCAR Thunder 2003? I might not have known about David Reutimann without NASCAR ‘14.
Would be nice to see some more old school guys: Jimmy Horton Rick Wilson Jimmy Hensley Mickey Gibbs Richard Lassiter Bobby Dotter Rodney Combs And so on
For guys like Cameron Hayley, the answer to "Whatever happened to..." is almost always funding. Unfortunately, we're not in an era of Winston money and consumer brands sponsoring 30th place teams. For 75-80% of the drivers, no funding = no ride.
I'm the same way about Hayley. Good driver, and he's just now only 24. Why he doesn't have a ride anywhere is baffling. I'm sure he could bring the sponsor, so I have no idea what's going on there...
Cameron Hayley, when he raced, was my favorite truck driver. I saw him win the 2013 Battle at the Beach and thought, ‘Hey he’s not that bad.’ I was shocked when he left ThorSport instead of Ben Rhodes. Not only that, he got replaced by Cody Coughlin, who would be the next big NASCAR bust.
Hey Danny, cool video. I do have a quick question that I would like to ask. Do you remember the old Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, TN? I was a big fan of the place before it closed down, which was rather unfortunate. I only live 15 minutes away from the place in Mt. Juliet (which btw I see those Beamen commercials all the time, they always yell at me a lot lol) and I would like to one day see it re opened. I only did ever go to one Nationwide race in 2010 and i would have liked to do another. But anyways, I just wanted to know your opinion if you had one. Oh and great video, too.
I wanted to see Cameron Hayley go on to do bigger things... he was a great driver in the truck series, definitely saw him poised to win some races and possibly a championship
I remember him because he won 4 races in the cup series and won the 2004 xfinity season title as an owner driver. Unfortunately, I remember when he lost his battle with cancer in 2007.
I forget if he’s covered him, but how about Buckshot Jones? I remember him in the 00 in Xfinity back in the day. Arguably the best race car driver name ever too xD
DannyBTalks ya I can understand why he can be forgotten. If you didn’t watch the sport during the late 2000s to early 2010s then nobody probably have a clue who he is
Cameron Hayley was another result of Thorsport Racing and their "keep a driver for a season or two, and then kick them to the curb for another driver". They've done this to numerous drivers over the years. Cameron Hayley Jeb Burton Todd Bodine Cody Coughlin (not that he was a talented driver) Rico Abreu And now Myatt Snider. The only drivers they've consistently kept with their team is Matt Crafton, Johnny Sauter and now Ben Rhodes.
Casey Atwood was one of my favorite drivers when I was younger, I have a diecast of his #7 Dodge on my windowsill by my bed. Shame his career in Cup was a dud.
Jimmy Hensley Hut Strickland Rich Bickle P.J Jones Chad Chaffin Robert Pressley Butch Miller Brian Simo Austin Cameron Terry Cook Deborah Renshaw Chase Montgomery Rick Wilson Rick mast Lake speed Curious if anyone remembers these names from the mid 90s and early 00s
Whoa, dude, harsh. Atwood at least had moderate success in his first season unlike that of Moroso. Don't forget Atwood was guinea pigged after 2001 & that's why his career got nowhere. Could you imagine if Jeff Gordon was a guinea pig for someone else at Hendrick during his era? Would we see Jeff Gordon in this series if that happened?
@@TotoDG Not sure I follow but I will say that I know people who think both guys are busts in NASCAR based on stats alone, when that simply isn't as accurate as 1 makes them out to be.
Okay, let me explain: It was a joke. I do not think Casey Atwood or even Rob Moroso were that bad. They were simply unlucky, which led to the end of their respective careers, and in the case of one, their life.
I started following NASCAR 2001. As a rookie fan, I found a rookie driver on a rookie team - Casey Atwood - and declared him as my driver. I was a loyal fan. I now realize I may have been the only one.
