My 4 resolutions for 2023. 1) play 80% of my collection. I played 81.4% in 2022. 2) Cull any game I havent played in 2 yrs 3) play at least 1 game a month w each of my family members (getting my wife to play will be the biggest obstacle) 4) limit my crowdfunding to either 5 games or less than $500. My collection is pretty solid at the moment and anything else I add needs to be pretty special
Finally realized that BG Stats wasn't actually from Board Game Geek (duh...) and bought the app. So yup, I'm about to start tracking my game plays. H00t!
My new year resolutions are: - playing all my unplayed games at least once - start playing solo (it partially overlaps with the point above) - back less Kickstarters (I slowed down a lot already) ... and the most difficult one... - try to find a place at home for everything I backed and hasn't arrived yet! 😅
Created my board game challenges on BG Stats this week (love how it is easy to view and automatically tracked) and my favorite challenge for the year is a top 5x5, play my top 5 games of all time 5 times.
I love, love, LOVE the idea of you keeping a leaner collection. Though I have no idea how YOU would implement this, you turn over things pretty quickly. You are in fact, ruthless about it. Ohhhhhhh, I was right now years old when I figured out these are new years resolutions you suggest for others. Cause you can't possibly intend to play more games.
Been logging plays since 2017, and BG Stats makes it so much easier, especially if someone you are playing with has BG Stats and just shares the log file with you so you just download and done.
I prefer 'My BGG' better then 'BG Stats'. It does not have the same indepth stats, but the high level stats are all I need. I can also track games I loan out and keep track of my collection. Also shows some of the main pages on BGG in the app. Try it if you want an easier to use app, and don't need extreme stats.
thanks for the ideas! very insightful 😃 🌟 I want to learn more difficult mechanisms, support small start-up game studios and review channels 😊 happy gaming 🎉
One pf my favourite things in bgstats is looking at expansions and character win rate. I always thought the contingency planner in pandemic was the weakest character ,, yet I've only won when I've played with it, whilst the researcher who I thought was one of the best I've won only half.
i definitely can get by with fewer games. My family is the issue. they like having them, even if we dont play them. especially campaign games. as far as logging plays, i have no interest in knowing exactly how much time i waste that i could be using more productively lol. i tried a bunch of games outside my normal preferences this past year. i found that they werent my preference lol. great video! have a great day Alex!
Nice list. My recurring new years resolution is to play 10 games that haven't hit the table in more than a year and shrink my shelf of opportunity to 20 unplayed games. I have a lot of legacy games that require certain circumstances to hit the table. My other goal is to revisit old hobbies I used to do before the pandemic.
My resolution is to stop backing Kickstarters - even the new Death May Die campaign! It's my favorite co-op game, but I don't think that I will get $400 worth of enjoyment out of it, and will not likely sell it either
Wargaming and sports games are an unwritten taboo on game review channels. It is a shame because there is a lot of interesting and innovative games and mechanics involved in both.
