We lost Hall and the next year we made the playoffs, I was mad at the trade at first but now I realize we would have no cap space and we got a decent top 4 defensemen in Larsson
Hurricanes lost 3 star players, Lindholm, Hanifin and Skinner in two trades, and managed to make the playoffs and make it the Conference Finals while Skinner went on a Sabres team that finished near the bottom of the standings and the Flames would lose in 5 to the Avs in the first round
Not to mention that Ottawa got some good stuff from traded him to Columbus and now they have a bright future while Marty D is stuck on Nashville who’s been falling off lately
I’m a die hard Avs fan. So we all just say screw you Duchene. Who just has to go team to team to try and make the playoffs. And we got the best player in the trade with Mackinnon going god mode
"savage cameraman" lol. Great video! Hossa story with the Pens/Wings is too bad to be true. Also there's something so cool about seeing old fuzzy footage of NHL players pre-NHL.
The Canucks have only had a handful of true stars over their 50 years. Luongo, Bure and Mogilny come to mind. Luongo signed one of those long term, front loaded contracts that has left the Canucks holding a recapture penalty after Luongo retired as a Panther....so yeah, thanks Mike Gillis. Great vid! Thanks for posting!
Hey Rob, my dad was Mat Barzal's dad's defense partner in beer league for years up until last year when my dad needed a knee replacement. Mat Barzal signed a Team Canada junior card for me though. Great kid, needs to shoot more :)
John Tavares staying may have meant Garth Snow doesn't get fired. So I wonder if Islanders fans would rather have had Tavares stay and Snow stay, or Tavares leave and Snow leave. I guess the answer looks obvious now but I am interested to what they would have said 2 years ago
Shea weber is shea weber, obviously the habs improve, but we werent exactly aware of the extent of locker room shenanigans. Thats why i was in the Nashville wins camp, but at the time i was already in the fire bergevin camp aswell.
Seriously for subban we have to understand that when price was injured, neither Weber or Pk was able to help the team make the playoffs. When they finish bottom at the bottom with subban, price was injured. Then again maybe the locker room atmosphere got better but 2010 and 2014, when the habs made the eastern finals, pk and price were the core of the team. Weber in his career never reached further the 2nd round. Thus not so sure about that one. However I will admit subban needs to bounce back this year in order to remain an elite dman
I know this trade didn’t make the bruins better but tyler seguin apparently had an issue with nathan Horton and got traded I’d love to see a video on this!
Although they were aging, TBL losing players like Lecavalier and St.Louis in 2013 and 14 helped build them into the dominant team we see today. Marty St.Louis had an Art Ross winning season in 2013 and was leading the team in points when he was traded for Ryan Callahan. Marty actually ended up leading the team in points anyway despite being traded away at the deadline.
Weber is not only about the points, he such a great guy and captain and does even more off the ice than on the ice, especially with the rookies. Like he played NHL 20 with Suzuki when he joined the team this year lol
I mean, the Bruins traded Thorton and then proceeded to win the Stanley Cup a few years later, which I'd say didn't end too badly. Especially because the Sharks haven't won a Cup yet
Lots of people in the Q thought I was crazy at the moment of the trade when I said the about 3 year difference didn't mean a thing since Weber's type of play would age way smoother...hate to say I told you so!
to be fair, they had barzal who is definitely a superstar. you could also make the argument that the islanders may be a shocking playoff team who is incapable of actually making a cup run (similiar to minnesota in the last decade) whereas toronto underacheives because of bad goaltending but still has the potential to make a playoff run
Quick note: Karlsson and Stone never wanted to leave Ottawa, they weren't being offered deals close to market value. Karlsson stated publicly that he was never presented a contract offer and that he hadn't spoken to Ottawa ownership in almost a year. Basically that whole saga comes back to Melnyk (Also ik the trades largely worked out well for Ottawa I'm just talking about the circumstances leading up to them)
People keep saying that the players want to leave which isn’t true, a lot of players who left Ottawa wanted to stay on the team because they loved the fan base and playing in the city
Which is worse: Karl Alzner leaving the Caps for the Habs due to the Caps playoff fails, and the Caps win the cup the next season while Alzner is stuck on a rough team? -or Marian Hossa leaving the Pens, who lost the Cup Finals to the Wings, for the Cup Champ Red Wings in hope of performing a repeat with them, only to lose in the Finals to the exact team he left, the Pens?
the islanders were in shock and forgot what they were, out performed but went back to normal eventually. it's like hitting a jello mold, it will jiggle around and be exciting and new for a while but eventually it settles back down and is what it is.
We lost 🐍, and we made the playoffs. The thing is, we would have been much better if he stayed. Yes, we dont need him to be the team we are, but that’s not really saying much because our offense is downright bad. If he was still on the team we would actually have a goal scorer. But still........ 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍
rick nash and sergei bobrovsky (thus far)... the nash trade helped us make the playoffs (along with a new coach and new management) within 2 years. they just barely missed in 12-13 too. bobrovsky (thus far) hasn’t been missed.
One of my favorite parts of the CBJ beating Toronto this year was watching Tavares's face lol. Then we ran out of gas in the next round and his face became my face.
Canucks lost Pavel Bure in a trade to the Florida Panthers. Loss of the most exciting player to ever wear a Canucks jersey eventually led Vancouver's management to sign a free agent in the hopes of restoring some star-power to the franchise. That player was Mark Messier. Dark times ensued...Dark times.
Subban had multiples fights in Montreal against Pleckanec and other players , and then Mtl traded him at Nashville , and what the predators do? They trade him to NJ , so i guess he has an attitude problem
Can someone explain American sports bizarre numbering system please…. Like players are number 99 etc… does that mean there are 99 active squad members?? I am guessing not so just do they just pick their own random number?? Always wondered
Its debatable as to whether the leafs got better stayed the same or got worse by signing Tavares. Im glad the Stars didnt sign him. They were one of the three teams he was talking to.
Lost 3 star players: Artemiy Panarin, Sergei Bobrovsky and Matt Duchene did not want to sign with the team. However, Columbus pulled through with a rising superstar goaltender in Elvis Merzļikins. We just need firepower to fix that offence now.
NGL, Hossa trying to jump ships just to get himself a cup instead of wanting to help whatever team he was on was significant to how his ego was at the time. I call it karma myself, not tragic. TRAGIC is when Iginla did that with Boston and Pittsburgh. THAT, was tragic for sure.
Isles didn’t improve because of “team morale.” They improved because they brought in an elite coach that shaved 100 goals off the team GA like he was tying his shoes.
CBJ lost Panarin, Bobrovsky, and Duchene and still made the playoffs by beating a 33 million dollar line and the other Leafs. They were in a playoff spot before the pause as well.
Feel bad for Hossa I mean his skin condition did not help him perform at the most elite professional hockey association like the NHL :( but hes still a beauty
I wanted Garth to draft hedman instead of tavares anyway.....so tavares slithering off the island didnt really mean much to me. His lying to the islanders hurt, but not that much.
