The fact that the Locust were entirely the COG'S fault has always kind of made the games bitter sweet for me. Like they aren't the good guys... it's their fault that humanity is almost extinct. But they're the only ones left who can fight back against an overwhelming enemy force.
there no good or evil but the way u look at it, they had the best intentions for the workers but one or two scienctists f#cked it up for every one. they didnt necessarily need the super soldiers program. adam fenix thought he had the best intentions but that didnt end too well. the COG would seem evil at the time but it was the leaders like prescott that made it seem evil.
While I'd argue the COG aren't as bad as the Locust, I just love how morally dubious they turn out to be when you *really* read between the lines. Makes what is already a dark universe seem ever deeper in its grimness when the only good guys left to save humanity ARE in fact the bad guys. Great video.

Tbh, the whole we are not saints things always applies to both sides. And the whole history is written by the victors is true, if UIR won their history becomes true and the fight here wasn't for ideals but rather emotion and hatred. It was a war with no right or wrong. Just a war.
Funny is that I played Gear when I was much younger believing COG are good guys for trying to save their humanity from a threat but when I grew older and decide to read the lores about COG leaving me to be shock. No wonder why Locust want to destroy Humanity in the first place lol
The Locust are a genocidal, Berserker raping, animal abusing/enslaving, race that does not even care at all about the environment. Whatever humans are no saints. That is true. Still, whatever humans have done wrong, the Locust have done even worse.
What I love about Gears is that it's not a black and white thing. Sure the Locust are the ultimate evil in this world, But the COG aren't saints either.

Yeah they went all out. Such a great part of the campaign. That little nod back to gears 2 really made me appreciate number 5 … even if the “choice” at the end kinda left a bad taste in my mouth 😂😭
The first gears of war game I really played was gears 3; I was visiting my childhood friend in SoFlo, we took 3 hits of acid each before starting the campaign. I started getting wicked Darwinist vs. Clanker vibes by like the 3rd level, also got mad the C.O.G. are fascists vibes. Beat the whole story on insane difficulty in 7 hours. I Fell in love with the franchise after that....
Man your videos are well done. I’ve dug deep into Gears lore and still hearing some stuff I didn’t know is awesome! The books go into great detail and comics if anyone hasn’t read them. You will learn so much about these soldiers and “leaders”. Gears is by far my favorite series!
Ya know I wonder but...what if Adam Fenix asked the queen to help the cog out with the pendulum wars. Ya know like strike teams against HVTs or something. she would have never done it, her plan was to stay hidden and live a peacful and eternal life underground (since she's immortal) with all her peoples, they only ever went to the surface because they where absolutly submerged by lambents, making the inner hollows an 24/7 war, and even they they faught till last minutes. their pre emergence high general (uzil sraak) wanted to keep fighting for the hollows no matter how many died, (kinda exactly like that general in "antz") only Vold Raam knew the hollows where lost and their only hope was the surface, which lead to a whole story on how he became high general and convinced the queen and everyone that they should attack the surface
The locust were made for the pendulum wars at new hope and especially the lab in gears 5 and revolted and scattered in to the hollows having refused to be subhuman cannon fodder for the cog

It was always inevitable in my opinion too. Myrah already had plenty of reasons to despise humanity, and it was inevitable that regardless of the Lambent pandemic, at some point in time humans would encounter the Locust anyway. Especially since we were encroaching on the Hollow in search of imulsion.
@@diogoteixeira4950 always. Even in the lore the UIR wasn't happy or accepting that they had lost. Even after the war was lost, some UIR Soldiers tried to continue the fight (as explained by Paduk in Gears 5). It was only inevitable that at some point another retaliation would arise and cause more war even without the Locust.

Going through Niles work room and where they treated rustling, as a kid always made me dislike those chapters because of dark and urky they were. I know see they are crucial to the story and Lore.
Oh, you forgot about the forced breeding program that the COG had. Basically, the best and biggest COG came to these...."Centers" to start the next generation. We know what it was, R@PE for those women that were there.
Some correction: the Maelstrom Generator was based on Adam's design but it was already built and active by the time Adam was sequestered to Azura. Prescott didn't know about the Queen until Adam told his assistant which he passed to Prescott. And that was, like, 5 years into the war. As far as I know, Adam was never told the Locust origins. After keeping secret that he knew about them for years, they were never gonna tell more than what was needed.
It's ironic how the game with chainsaw bayonett has such a poignant "war is foolish" message below the action movie surface. At the end of part 3, marcus is just so done and tired with this shit.
I like how adam and his wife could have prevented half the events of the war by either both saying "ayo theres locust under us" or in adams very specific case. "Ayo some bitchass human was captured by one of our crazy scientist and he created a whole ass race that wants to kill us - oh and not cause their evil necessarily, but because THEY are just victims to.... oh the same thing we've been suffering from" Its just "bad writing" cause they didn't take 5minutes to actually write a story where they couldn't have fully said anything. Even with whistleblower protection laws, Snowden is living in hiding for revealing the extent of completely horseshit federal overreach (for all their mass surveillance, the NSA has literally never stopped a mass terrorist attack, and airport security still has a 60% failure rate at catching weapons and bombs when they rarely come through terminals). Add to that, have you ever heard of the crimes of Alan Dulles? Or the Nazi SS officers buried in private cemeteries mere miles from American WW2 Medal of Honor recipients? Perhaps you’ve heard that MK Ultra was only exposed decades after it had run its course, because Frank Olson (one of the lead researchers) was assassinated for wanting to quit, and his family proved in court that they were paid $750,000 by government assets to stay silent? Have you heard that a judge ruled they couldn’t sue the CIA for Frank’s death because they’d already signed an agreement to receive the hush money? Have you seen anything about their visit to the Oval Office to receive an official presidential apology ? Not to mention that the CIA fired more people over a food fight than they fired over MK Ultra, which literally tortured some subjects to death, drove others insane without compensation, created the Unabomber, and elevated psychopaths to key positions in our intelligence networks). I haven’t even covered what Kissinger has done, but it shouldn’t surprise you to know that the public turns a blind-eye even to his most well-documented crimes. People don’t want their lives upended by shocking developments. Government officials want to stay in power, and are ruled by shortsighted nepotism and short-term financial issues (or outright blackmail). Governments are highly motivated to smooth things over, sweep shit under rugs, and keep plowing on ahead... Fully confident that military might and previous successes will always continue to save the day. If Adam had told COG leaders about the Locust, one of two things would’ve happened: he’d either be blackmailed into acting as a radio double agent to find and kill Queen Myrrah, so the COG could bring the Locust under their control (or wipe them out)... Or the COG would’ve made Adam silent, because the Locust couldn’t *possibly* be a real threat to the mighty COG. If blackmail and threats didn’t work, and Adam tried to go public with the information, he’d either become a public laughingstock in the face of a disinformation campaign... Or he’d mysteriously commit suicide with two bullets in the back of his skull, or mysteriously fall out a window without leaving a note, just like dozens of journalists and whistleblowers in recent Earth history. Or someone would just poison him, or slit his throat, like in the good ol’ days. It was damn solid writing that left Adam so indecisive and morally confused. His thirst for redemption, after being involved in the biggest WMD project of his planet’s history, ultimately led to him preventing a small genocide and enabling a larger one. Which makes his death and redemption in Gears 3 hit all the harder.
Unfortunately not, not yet anyway. I'd love to see 'Ultimate Editions' of both Gears of War 2 and 3. The next entry in the series, though, is of considerably more interest to me than the previous two: it's Marcus and Dom, on and around E-Day. No Baird - my personal favourite - or Cole that I'm aware of, but...... Yippeeee!! We finally get the classic characters, back where they belong.
