I still have the old Anchor Bay special edition release of Near Dark. One of my most treasured pieces. Blows my mind it hasn't gotten a definitive HD release yet.
I bought the Arrow region b with a slip version of Killer Klowns for $70 a few months ago and then SCREAM! Factory announced the 4k, so I feel you on your Army of Darkness purchase.
For singular films some of my Toho, Miramax, and Kraken Releasing Godzilla movies on Blu-Ray have been going up quite a bit, I was able to land ALL those releases while they were cheap thankfully. I didn't realize my Breakdown was already out of print and valuable, it's still new! Lol
I came to the collecting game late...just started a year ago and own around 130 blu-ray and 4k. Several films I've wanted went out of print so I had to go secondary market so it's not unusual paying close to $100 for something difficult to get. The most I paid was $200 Canadian for The Guest boxset from second sight that was out of print so I went on ebay.
I got that Breakdown release as well and I’m so relieved that I do looking at the absurd prices. I don’t know what happened, if they had a limited license to sell it or if another company bought the distribution rights so they had to cease selling them. Could be a million things. Crazy.
breakdown was on auction yesterday on Ebay and the winning price was 40 something total dollars. I bid 50 but I got screwed over by the ebay price conversion. My highest bid was 50 USD like I said but it didn't tell me I was actually bidding 50 CAD lmao. To top it off, I lost by 1 CAD. unbelievable. I wanted to throw my phone.
*Near Dark* is so good... it deserves the proper 'cult status' treatment visited on so many other movies - the UK release has the same cover, probably same scan an no extras _at all_ ... I was lucky enough to see it in the cinema on release (yeah, I'm old but I got to see loads of awesome 80s movies cheap on the big screen!), when it went up against *Lost Boys* the same year and lost box office and reception-wise. I _do_ love *Lost Boys* too but that's received the 'super special release' treatment more than once and *Near Dark* certaily deserves the same respect.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT WATCH THE REMAKE. I watched it because it's one of my favorite movies. It's total shit!!! I lost track of how many tunes they said fuck and they added a ton of violence. I guess they thought it would make it better. The filmmakers should be fired!!! It sucks balls!!
I have a of Twilight Time releases - The Blue Max ($100 used) and Where the Sidewalk Ends ($145 new). I haven't watched this copy of Where the Sidewalk Ends because it'll lose about half of its value once I do. I bought them directly from TT for around $30 new when they were first released as limited # of copies.
