Ivy is the most overlooked and underappreciated rogue in the Gotham Rogues gallery. These days, people just think of her as a,boring eco terrorist or the girlfriend of Harley. These stories and your previous top 5 proves that Ivy is a,great rogue and a,great character. You just need to look deeper.
"Poison Ivy has plenty of well-known, classic storylines. Like, for example...and...and let's not forget...yeah, okay, there are no big, classic Poison Ivy tales." That is the best darn opening you've given to any of these videos, I salute you. XD Anyway, the way you started off this video is a pretty good explanation for why I, myself, don't really have the best relationship than Poison Ivy. Don't get me wrong, I love Pamela - I actually like her more than Killer Croc, and I'm much more versed in Croc than Ivy...although I'll confess it's an EXTREMELY close race between the two - but like most of Batman's villains, most of what I know about Ivy comes from other interpretations, not so much the comics themselves. And I'll also confess that, of all the villains I've tried to become more well-versed in comics-wise in recent years, Ivy is one I've sort of been slacking on. I'm not really sure WHY this is, I don't think I can explain the issue, but basically, when it comes to Ivy, I've read her in various SUPPORTING roles, usually in major story arcs, but there are only two stories I can think of where I read her as the main character. One was in her specific issue of "Joker's Asylum." (Which was...okay, I guess? I didn't hate it, but...ehhhh...) And the other, incidentally, is your fourth place spot. And considering those are the only two stories I've read that really focus on Ivy, you can guess which one is my favorite. :P I know of Ivy's story and appearances in No Man's Land, but I haven't really gotten a chance to read any. In regards to that and the other three comics I haven't already read featured on this list, I may very well check them out in the future. Her encounters with Wonder Woman and Catwoman, in particular, sound interesting to me.
Yeah, I also feel her Joker's Asylum issue is "ehhhh" haha... pretty forgetable - in fact I don't remember what it's about! Well, now you got two lists to help you out whenever you feel ready to explore Pam ;)
1:15 - N°1 - A kiss of death times three/A poison of the heart 3:50 - N°2 - Untitled 6:30 - N°3 - Reap what you sow 9:00 - N°4 - Cast shadows 11:20 - N°5 - Human nature
I for some reason really like that shot at 10:42 I think a case can definitely be made for an Ivy that's balanced out in her character aspects to also having a casual side
If I recall correctly Reap what you sow was one of the first Poison Ivy stories I’ve ever read as a child. A few years ago driven by nostalgia I found it and read it again. Great video and great list as usual Rogues. Nice work 😃
I'm glad your channel reviews so much Ivy lore. This beauty from Eden is always tragically mistreated and overlooked! I will gladly subscribe and this was a great present to me for my birthday!
Mr. Rogues for some reason I had a thought that you would fit in a issue from the nineties featuring Jim Ballant illustrations of Ivy before I even viewed the video! His illustrations of both Ivy and Selina in the same story definitely make this one my favourite!
Great video and her original origin is interesting. I think they changed it to establish a new continuity in the wake of Crisis On Infinite Earths like other characters at that time.
The closest I can think of to a great Poison Ivy story is the climax of the 1981 storyline where she mesmerizes the Wayne Foundation board of directors, including Bruce Wayne, and even though Batman knows what she's done, he's hynotically prevented from telling anyone about it.
@@mr.rogues4145 It was a subplot that ran through several issues, plus it was during that time that Gene Colan started drawing Batman, and the climax had a Joe Kubert cover.
As much as I enjoy your recent stuff, I'd wish you'd return to your roots more often and cover some forgotten Bat-rogues, e.g. Doctor Double X, Johnny Witts, Getaway Genius, Elmo Galavan, the Dagger, Mirage, the Squid or Steeljacket.
Roots? That is exactly what I'm doing; the forgotten super villains stuff didn't really become a major thing until last year. Before that I was always talking about Ivy, Dent, Riddler and so on.
it's pronounced 'Barr e oh new ev oh' which loosely translates from the Spanish New (Nuevo) Neighborhood or Quarter (Barrio) the spanish love to put the descriptor after the item
Thank you Mr rogues for inspiring me to begin making RU-vid videos (I'll begin with an animation about how you inspired me at some point from Christmas to next January).
5.kinda sounds similar to what she did to Harvey Dent in "Pretty Poison"(before he became Two-Face) 4.can't go wrong with her first encounter with the Dark Knight 3.it's like Catwoman can tell when things get outta hand 2.if she reformed sooner, then she'd be willing to sacrifice her life when Batman asked her to save Gotham from being overrun by Scarecrow's fear toxin 1.now that's rare
Ezekiel Rayfield Ivy and Quinn have a mini series coming out soon. DC doesn’t know what to do with Ivy; they are changing back Ivy from her new look (hero’s in crisis). Ivy as a villain has been uprooted.
Heroes in Crisis was DC's opportunity to really level up Ivy as a Villain. After dying and coming back Ivy felt disconnected from her humanity and more connected to the green and want it wants. This could make her a vengeful avatar for the Green then Swamp thing which will make her even more dangerous. But instead we get a Harley and Ivy mini series. Why? 😒
Have you ever seen one of my favorite Batman Team-Ups? Issue #93 of "The Brave and the Bold" (Batman's Team-up Comic). In this issue Batman teams up with The House Of Mystery, and the story is narrated by the house's able caretaker Cain. As Cain himself states it. "So he's inside the Castle... and a castle is a house... and since he doesn't know what he's getting into, it's a mystery... So, in case any of you don't get it... The Batman is in The House Of Mystery!" As always, thank you so very much for your videos. (Including the one on the House of Shadows, which I recently saw, and made me think of this.)
I wish i was a human/plant/venom (bane-esque) hybrid with big muscles and ivy as my boss (she would love and appreciate me) I would protect her with my life lol
Why do people keep mistaking Fungus for plants? I've seen it with Swamp Thing too, its kind of crazy how nobody's spoken up that they are a seperate branch here from plants and animals
If you're planning on doing another "Forgotten Villains" or even more "One-Shot Villains" may I suggest The Globe-Trotter of Crime from Detective Comics #160?
Mr. Rogues would you ever cover “the life” of Gardner Fox? I feel you would be the person to help educate us on him. Both in life and in the comic industry. I know this is asking a lot. But, maybe for special for 20k subscribers.
ROGUES! news to give you, someone told me you're doing a top 5 media appearances of Two-face, and (bear with me here lol) I think you should check out the fanfilm The Clown Prince. Harvey is a main character in it and it's easily his best live action showing. I sort of wrote a whole review of it in the comments section XD. The film's a sequel to another fanfilm but Harvey's only in the 2nd one, (might be good to watch 1st one anyway, even tho it's another damn joker origin). I know a fanfilm seems like a weird thing to consider in that list but its surprisingly professional and excellent. As for the video, I honestly never realized Ivy didn't have any major events based around her. Its kinda funny to me that guys like her and Clayface get more credit from casual fans for their power, while guys like Two-Face and Penguin are assumed to be really weak yet have more major events. Comics are weird like that arent they? With Ivy I prefer the nature-loving ecoterrorist rather than the anti-man murderer, but both takes have potential like you said. Great video once again
I'm honestly a little apprehensive to read "Human Nature" because the writer, AJ Lieberman, is the same one who wrote the god-awful "Hush Returns" arc. But since the premise sounds pretty good, I think I'll give it a shot.
@@mr.rogues4145 Lieberman seems to have some bizarre fascination with the Hush character. "Hush Returns" was basically him making everybody dumber and weaker in a lame, transparent attempt to make Hush look cool.
And in this one Hush becomes obsessed with Ivy for some reason... I don't quite get it, but I haven't read all issues of Gotham Knights, so I might be missing something.
Though it's laughably campy, I like the name "Lillian Rose" as Ivy's alias over "Pamela Isley". I've always found the name Pamela Isley to be too on-the-nose and dumb even for crazy comic book standards. I might get hate for this, but I wouldn't mind if DC retconned her a bit and gave her a new permanent civilian name. "Pamela Isley" can rest in the compost pile. Thoughts?
Mr. R, what do you think of the utter DISRESPECT DC has attempted on the Riddler with the ATROCITY that is the new Batman Hush animation? I ask you, as a fellow that recognizes the true importance and true power of The Riddler?
It was a very interesting idea but executed very poorly. Although I wonder if Rogues thinks that the idea is an improvement on the source material or not.
He's already planning to do a list on the top 5 Two Face media versions in general. And the best video game Two Face is almost certainly the Batman Telltale version, it's basically no contest.
@@Cobra_125 yes there are more than 5 game two faces because there are the modern ones (telltale series and arkham series) then the oldish ones (lego batman series) Then there is the old ones (ps2 batman) then the very old (pixelated nes or snes games)
@@goblintributemaker2539 personally I didn't get past chapter one in telltale batman but I KNOW it is meant to be very good but my favourite game two face would be arkham series two face
@@P1utusPaints I completely forgot about Lego games. I think telltale did better than Arkham tho, he felt less like a villain and a bit more complex/sympathetic. Telltale made him my fav while Arkham games just reminded me he existed
Hello Mr Rogues. I just wanted to know your thoughts on this character who has only been around for 2 years, but has already become one of the most popular characters in DC, The Batman Who Laughs.
Oh alright. I haven't read anything he's in either. Not yet anyway. I will at some point. But just based off of the many RU-vid videos I've seen, I'm loving him. Even though I haven't read any of his Comics yet, I'm already a fan of him. I'll even say he's a new addition to the massive Batman Rogues Gallery. He definitely has the potential to become DC's next big Villain. Hell, he probably already is. I take it you at least know the premise of him, and you've seen what he looks like?
@@mr.rogues4145 yeah I know I watched itso I thought since you liked it you would put a part of it and there in like tell us to go watch your other video in the past
Great character. She should do a crossover with Spider Man, Dare Devil, or Elektra. She should also be the main boss of a video game. Uma Thurman played her pretty good.
With the recent trend of nerdy-science female villains in superhero films (especially female doc-ock from spider verse) I see no reason to not have a film with a nerdy Poison Ivy
Oh sure, have her played by Linda Cardellini why don't you, what could be wrong with that? How about the FACT THAT SHE'S ALREADY PLAYING HAWKEYE'S WIFE IN THE MCU?!?! HELLO!!! Danielle Panabaker from "Sky High" would be a better fit to play Poison Ivy since her character in that movie controls plants like Ivy can and of course the fact that she has long red hair like she does
Hm. Imma have to disagree with you. The Lilian Rose origin is nowhere in the same league as the Jason Woodrue origin . Oh, she was poisoned by guy, now she immune to poison, haha. Omg, no. XP Although technically it's the same idea behind them, the second origin is more sympathetic and nuanced for sure.
@@mr.rogues4145 The thing is, Jason Woodrue was an established character (from the Atom and Green Lantern), so the rebooted origin ties her into the DC Universe as whole and, by extension, Swamp Thing and the Green.
@@mr.rogues4145 I meant I would like you to do more two face not only two face (although only two face wouldn't be bad for us two face lovers but I have the feeling most people wouldnt like the change).
