Absolutely agreed! Back when I was still in school (90s), took it upon myself to learn holistic medicine. Ayervedic and chinese as well as Western. Natural medicine is in my personal opinion, much cleaner and safer. Not just extracted chemical, from plants and minerals, which is like strip mining. One of my favorites is wintergreen, because it has asperin and tastes better too.

There should also be another person that is the Guard assigned to the children, not to normally help with them. This person needs to have the ability to get immediate compliance with the children. When he says go to cover, it is done without question every time. He might thought of as the dean or disciplinarian. Last thing you need is an emergency happen and the kids don't listen to them to go to cover. This might seem a little harsh, but a loose kid can seriously endanger the group.

I am a member of the UKSN (United Kingdom Survival Network), and as the title implies, it is a network of groups linked across the UK who work together in order to achieve a better result for all concerned. As this network is sometimes across large distances, the communications between groups, and withing a group is important and every area has its comms representative. Their job is to maintain local, national and international radio comms and ensure that there is a knowledge base to run the radios, build simple repeaters or antennas from junk, maintain the power supply required to charge and operate the systems and train nominated people on how to use the different radios within a group. When the mobile telephone network goes down, a secure radio network will be vital to the security of your group and that of others you communicate with.

Eggs in jars of lime water fills in all the pores of the egg and encases them in a shell of "glass". Water glassed eggs can last stored at room temperature like this for up to 2 years. This method of preserving raw eggs has been used since the 1800s and was common even into the 1940s and 50s. When refrigerators became a standard kitchen appliance, water glassing almost became a lost art. You must use clean, but unwashed eggs. You cannot use commercial eggs for this because they have all had the protective coating (bloom) washed off the shell and will quickly go bad. I recently scrambled up 18 eggs that had been stored in lime water for 7 months on an unrefrigerated cupboard shelf. They tasted perfectly fresh (although the yoke seemed a bit thinner than fresh eggs). Anyhow, if you have an abundance of fresh, unwashed eggs, you might want to try putting some away for later. The ratio is one ounce (by weight) of lime (calcium hydroxide) to one quart of water. Calcium hydroxide is a completely natural, organic ingredient and harmless, although the powder is very fine and may irritate your lungs if you breathe it in. The lime water also quickly dried out the skin on my hands and I had to apply lotion to get them back to normal. The jars do not need to be sealed in any way, other than to keep the water clean. If you can't drink your culinary tap water, use filtered water. When you do use the eggs, be sure to rinse them thoroughly before you crack them or they will taste like lime. FYI: a gallon size container will store about 40 eggs. It can be plastic or glass and should be covered with some sort of lid to keep out dust and bugs. Lime is also known as calcium hydroxide or hydrated lime. You can buy it in 50 pound bags in the masonry section of the hardware store, or in 1 pound bags in the canning section of the grocery store....often labeled as "pickling lime". BTW thanks Lisa Timpson and your hens for gifting me 6 dozen eggs and Jennifer Johnson for giving me the pickle bottles, they are the perfect container for this. Mechanics / bio diesel 5. Security/ resource acquisition There should be cross training and cooperation between all parties. This will give way to smaller more specific groups. For example members of food and water may work with some members of medical for herbal medicine such as elderberry or aloe vera. Obviously older members and less mobile men will make up the home guard while the younger more mobile security is out on missions.

For a good novel that outines how these leaders emerge in an emergency, read One Second After (A John Matherson Novel), by William R Forstchen. The premise is that all electronics in the United States suddenly become inoperable (the fact is unexpected; the explanation, at last, is not). The first novel was promoted by Newt Gingrich as the kinds of things that the U.S. should be thinking about; there are two sequels, "One year after," and the third is called "The final day." They are thought provoking for any "survival" minded citizens. Many don't.

Doctor or Dentist would be high on my list. Building your community around a country doctor. Many people have this belief that a firearm is going to solve all their problems. That they will hunt for or take by force all they need. A organized community of like minded people who have families to think about will rally around their core values. Many people think that old people are just not needed. Yet how many valuable skills does your grandmother or grandfather have? Cooking, canning, gardening, food storage, repair, woodworking , ranching, farming or teaching to just name a few. In addition older people can be used for watching children when mom or dad have other more critical skills to do. My grandparents are all passed away now but they survived the Great Depression and WW2. How many of you have older neighbors that you write off in ths SHTF scenario that you envision that have skill sets you do not even know about. And the last thing I almost never hear about on any channel. I hear it mentioned in passing but more attention is paid to Black rifles and tacticool knives is Sanitation and hygeine. We all know we have to keep ourselves and our AO clean but do you have a plan? Can you scale that plan up to 20 or 30 people. How are you going to get rid of your wsste while protecting your food, water and health? We see what is happening in China with CoronaVirus. What is your plan to prevent the spresd of infectious diseases? Do you have a quarantine area planned? To separate the sick? Good luck. If all you spent your money on was an AR15 and some ammo.

In a true long term, grid down scenario, you will not be "getting rid of your waste." It will be worth more than gold and like it or not, you're going to have to use it to fertilize your crops. If you don't close the loop, you will eventually deplete your soil of micronutrients if nothing else. There are safe ways of doing it and unsafe ways of doing it. It would be best to familiarize yourself with those ways now; even if you don't use them in practice just yet.

A good chemist. Every high school and university has a chemical stockroom. Hardware stores, grocery stores…pretty much anywhere you end up scavenging…better with a chemist. You can treat water with iodine. How much crystalline elemental iodine is the equivalent of a tab, once you run out of those? Did you remember to bring the vitamin C to reduce the iodine and make the water palatable again? Do you know that it’s called ascorbic acid, and under A, not under C? Do you know how to make aspirin? Painkillers make a difference. The reagents in one school are usually enough for several hundred grams. When Wikipedia doesn’t work anymore, simply being able to read the labels on bottles you might scavenge, know what they mean and what that stuff is good for, that’s a big help. You might leave behind 500 grams of research grade naproxen because you don’t realize that it is Aleve. You can’t run an internal combustion engine on octane, despite the name. But, you can use tert-Butyl methyl ether or ethyl acetate. You can make gunpowder with potassium nitrate, but it’s probably more useful as fertilizer. If you mix hydrogen peroxide and vinegar, you generate peracetic acid, which is a much more powerful sterilization wash than either alone. But, it needs to sit in cool dark place for ~48hrs to form. A lot of preppers are homesteaders. Those kinds of people have huge advantage in knowledge about fundamental tasks of agriculture, animal husbandry, and home crafts. But, they’re often somewhat suspicious about scientists. Thing is, scientists have social clout because their theories lead to productive and useful outcomes. When SHTF, you’re not going to have spare time or energy to be politically anything. Politics is a luxury of civilization. If you’re injured, or delivering a child, or feverish and dying…you’re going to want the aspirin, naproxen…anything. You’re going to eat the GMO corn, because otherwise you will starve. You’re going to get vaccinated and you’re going to wear a mask. Not because it is one kind of political or not, but because SHTF, nobody is political. You don’t want to die or be crucified with pain? Do what the scientist says. That is why scientists got social clout in the first place. People got tired of living in pain, outliving their children, and dying young, anyway. So, we fixed part of that. And, it would help a lot if you listened to scientists before SHTF. You will afterwards. Or, you’ll be dead. But, it would help if that wasn’t a choice people had to make.
@thatguy-pl2cu
@thatguy-pl2cu 2 года назад
You have a few good points, but it turns out this is just a long winded vax push and political rant. Nice. Scientists are losing clout because they have gone political. Can't trust too much anymore. Shtf, you have to prove yourself an asset and earn trust. Otherwise you are just a threat.

Finding laypersons able to take care go gun shots will be rare. I would think you would need to find a paramedic or an ER nurse (RN), ER doctors or surgeons will be in very shout supply . Great video. Excellent points. So my fellow viewers, what specialty old fashioned skills can you bring to a village? What piece of equipment can you supply? So many don't understand these needs of a small community. It is one thing to prepare for a couple weeks of no electricity, gas, etc, but to survive a year or longer, you need some other skills in a group. But in a long term collapse if you want to keep a town alive you need a lot of skills. Utilities, kitchens, medic/nursing/doctor/,farming, scavenging, construction, clothing and footwear, farrier, fletcher, butcher, veterinarian, dentist, manufacturing of needed chemicals such as soaps/painkillers/explosives/lubricants, engineers and mechanics, childcare, weavers, teachers, blacksmith, armorer, hygiene engineer, storeroom and supplies, scribe, librarian, undertaker, police, even musicians entertainers and artists will be necessary for long term. It will look like a medieval village. There will be apprenticeships and as things stabilize guilds connecting various workmen in separate towns. Last Comment, I want to throw knives and axes at the wall behind you, all that end grain looks like fun!

I like building stuff. If you can't figure out how to build or create then it'll be a hard road for you. In a SHTF scenario you can't call a handyman or go pick it up at Walmart. Way I see it, and I might touch on what he was saying, with the skills to create or fix you really don't need others as much as the general person. In a necessity sense at least a tinkerer can create everything needed for survival and even if they get robbed as long as they're able to build they can just do it again. Water catchment and purification, weapons, 1st aid, transportation, shelter, food and food traps, tools, outside communication and surveillance or just creature comforts. All of those can be accomplished by the brain. I understand the logic of playing nice with others but at the end of the day with enough skill, time and resources a tinkerer can do whatever they want with or without a group and that's why social skills aren't our top priority, it's irrelevant. I'm a polymath, 28 with a few trade certs but basically taught myself and accomplished everything practical from alternative farming to electrical to off grid architecture. Now I'm not a hermit, I have a great fiance and good friends I just like the feeling of no matter what not being reliant on anyone, in fact with enough ability ppl become reliant on you making you valuable. Sounds conceded but I'd rather the latter than the former. Also you'd want to say "until you get kidnapped and forced to work" which is part of every apocalypse movie. To that I say, I'm 5'9" 250lbs of former college wrestler and BJJ coach. They might get me but they'd have to put in work.

They turned on the red lights and siren and drove it out the gate. I worked for the guy who was working the gate that day. He just waved them on. The truck ended up at the Angeles City airport where it stayed for the rest of its life.

Strategic planner is good. They or another needs to also be record keeper. When are kids born, crops planted, what day of the year it is. Another person that may be one of the tinkerers is a clothing person or team even. Clothes and shoes wear out. Who works leather and who patches clothes or makes new cloth?

I would say the enforcer/lieutenant (maybe sergeant for you Americans) of the group is important to. The person that make sure rules are followed and commands carried out. This person doesn't make the big decisions but make sure everything is moving along and gets information back to those that make the big decisions.

I would add a mental health specialist for a real SHTF situation. For routine emergencues like hurricanes, there is mental trauma but the rest of society is functioning and can fulfill that role. Where society has broken down, you need someone in your group who can deal with intermittent and long-term mental health issues. Even in the last recession, child and spousal and animal abuse increased. Mediator/negotiator works with mentally healthy people but don't usually have the skills for mental health issues.

I guess I need to try and start a group. Non where I live at. Will set it up as a republic. Each individual family is in control of their own preps and we don’t tell eachother what to do and when to do it. But a network of families we can barter with, help eachother out support one another. When one lacks certain things the others can help provide and vise versa. Don’t need a bunch of rules that have to be followed because each family will rule their own. Don’t need some prick standing up and screaming I’m the leader and this group will do as I say. That will only bring strife.

Another person to have in a survival group is a Green Thumb 👍. Sure your group may have seeds and seed packets but someone must have knowledge to actually grow the stuff. Plus if you can a Dentist to take care of those teeth.

Good list...i especially like the last role on your list....I would add others seen in the comments below as necessary for the group´s needs. All in all, useful ideas for my work scriptwriting for a post-SHTF adventure-horror story (that could be developed in a series for internet TV) set 6 months post-collapse revolving around the saga of a young professional woman who bugs-out to a rumored peaceful sanctuary community, set in modern-day Venezuela, where I on location participating with local pros all set for the series initial production phase.

@@PatrickKQ4HBD Yep! Venezuela! Been a resident here many years....even operated (still do, but seldom lead a tour due to the pandemic) an adventure tour company...The severe deterioration here over the last 2 decades makes this country an almost perfect place to shoot a tropical post-apocalyptic TV series or movie!

What about the ant organization: each one does what there is to do. Not all ants are soldiers, but all fight when needed, for example. What a human being does, another can do. Maybe not so well, or so quickly, but I'm sure that the first suture of any surgeon was not that great. Of course, you can train yourself using a piece of meat.

Is this realistic? The only one I can depend on as a prepper, is my wife. My children know I'm a prepper, but they have their own lives and are very busy raising their children and paying their mortgage. Next, virtually all people I know think that prepping is silly, even now we face a global climate crisis. When SHTF, most likely several people show up with an empty belly and little children - with a mindset that fits a loving, caring environment. I can feed six people at most. When I am lucky a few of them will be able to hold a weapon and be able to kill out of self defense.

Strategic planner should be a Sigma, but leader should be an Alpha. Sigmas can leader, of course, but they derive no joy from it as Alpha’s do. Sigma’s are architects and thinkers. Alpha’s are extroverted action people, who trive on the attention. Sigma’s do not, but both are essential. Sigma has the ultimate say so if a dispute erupts between him and the Alpha, if the group wants to continue existing, but the Alpha does the extraverted activities that Sigma’s generally care little about.
