Acetone is, hands down, the go-to solvent for products like markers. However, be advised that it is extremely volatile in that it evaporates very quickly and is quite flammable as a result. If you're using acetone, always put the lid back on the can immediately after withdrawing some from the can. Also do not allow paper towels or soak rags to be thrown into the trash and then the lid covered. That is a great cause of spontaneous combustion. Better is to drape the rag outdoors over a banister or something horizontal such that the acetone will evaporate and dissipate very quickly, thus minimizing the chance of a fire.
I was about to write this! Also you can simply use the white board marker . Draw over the permanent marker , wipe off, repeat. Not as good but it can help
I had rotator cuff surgery. On my right shoulder. In 2022. Now its way better than ever. Now im having my left shoulder done. My surgeon is a genius surgeon. Best ever . For real

I had mine repaired with the tendon repairs too, 5 weeks ago. I took the meds religiously for three days and used an ice machine for about 7, and I can honestly say I never had one moment of pain. I bought the ice machine prior to surgery and they had it on and running before I even left the OR. I highly recommend this.
I have had 7 other surgeries and nothing compares to this rotator cuff repair. Take those meds, it’s important. Thanks for sharing about the comparing. My Physical Therapist told me I was so behind, it almost destroyed me as I felt I had been working so hard. I asked the surgeon (whose good hearted). He said, well since she wasn’t here looking at the damage she can’t tell you where you should be. Assured me I was at a good spot and to keep going he’ll tell me if he’s concerned!
I’ve had knee & Shoulder reco surgeries and the pain is intense. STRONG pain killers taken properly is crucial. I just shoulder Acromioclavicalar joint reconstruction/stabilisation and the Doc only gave me 5mg Endone (on previous Ops he gave me 20mg). My post Op hurts like hell. Going to have to start double/tripple dumping this stuff.
The issue of communication between your PT and your surgeon is a problem but I understand both of them are in a business. If your PT is not doing soft tissue work and mobilizations around the shoulder blade then they aren’t helping you progress faster… that will dictate the stress of the Glenohumeral joint and RC.
I just had a SLAP tear surgery with bicep tenodesis. It's been almost three weeks, my surgeon told me I don't need to wear my immobilizer anymore so I'm moving my shoulder more, but I still can't lift my arm very high. But I feel good about my recovery.
I just had my second total shoulder reconstruction and rotator cuff repair. Had both of them done in under 8 months. Nicest thing Ive ever done for myself as an adult. I'm a new person it's changed and took 25 years off my life.
@@rotatorcuffexpert thanks it wasn't a big decision. I was tired of all the cortisone shots sick of not being able to go fishing, found a great doctor we both were on the same page and it's been wonderful. Yes I had some pain and had several weeks of physical therapy but that's minor. I have both arms back they feel great and no more pain or shots anymore. I sleep great my surgery increased my standard of living, and quality of life. Boy medicine certainly has come a long way since we were kids.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I have had RA my entire adult life. I ended up up having left reverse surgery due to the pain that all of a sudden came to the left shoulder. Prior surgery I was able to lift my left arm all the way up with no problem. I thought I was gonna have to do the right shoulder first. I am now 3 1/2 months post surgery had a severe RA flareup for about three weeks and could hardly function at all, and therefore limited PT exercise at home. I’m fairly diligent about doing exercises because I’ve had other joint replacement and I know the results and I know the importance of exercise. At this point, I cannot wash my hair bring my arm all the way up or do anything on my face or head, style or fix hair. I’ve changed Physical Therapy offices and feel that my new PT is great because she worked in a hospital and has a great background and as you know working in hospital see everything more so then. I would love it if you could list some exercises so I can get over this hump and finally get some normal. I asked my rheumatologist for an order to get an x-ray because sometimes when I pick something up off the ground, I feel a pinching and tightness at the very top of the shoulder . my frustration level is high simply because my muscles are so weak and I can’t turn my arm out when my elbows were in at my side. I hope you read this and I hope you can give some suggestions. I appreciate anything and everything you can provide.
What I like about this is it is clear and to the point, and all true! I’ve had two knee replacements and a hip replacement, and will, most likely have a reverse shoulder replacement next year. I wish I had seen this before my first surgery; I never had known such pain!

I have reconstruction tomorrow for a partial thickness (80%) tear of the supraspinatus. Not looking forward to the recovery, but I want to have the use of my arm again.
I am having surgery on 4/23/2024 I tore the bicep, and 3 other tendons in an ATV accident! The labium is also torn! This happened on Easter Sunday. I’m not really looking forward to the surgery but with the inability to raise my arm I’m actually ready to get this going so recovery can start!

I have a full thickness rupture of the supraspinatus and partial rupture of 2 other muscles from an accident on march 25. My surgery is scheduled for June 27😳. What are your thoughts? Is that too long to wait? I’m in Norway and this is through the public health system. I am 61 year old male
12 days post op Rotator Cuff repair here. I have two tips. My Number one tip is if you can afford it, get an adjustable bed platform for your bed that raise your head and feet. They have them that can fit in your existing bed frame or flat on a platform type bed. They work with any mattress. You may be able to rent one. Sleeping in a recliner gets very old very fast. With this, you don't need to sleep in a recliner and you will enjoy it long after you are healed. My Number two tip is to buy or rent an ice machine. It circulates ice cold water into a pad that is designed to be secured to your shoulder. It is a lifesaver when it comes to pain management.

I am almost one year out from my surgery. I don't remember the names of everything but I had two complete tendon tears, the bicep tenodesis and they shaved down the acromion . I am a 64 yo male. My journey with shoulder issues started with a MVA in February of 2017 and after a series of unfortunate events found myself in terrible condition and pain. Everything you have described in this video has been my exact experience. I am so glad I found your videos a year ago, they were a tremendous help to get me back to what I would guess is about 95% today. Thank you so much!

Hello. I learned a lot from your video and look forward to watching your others. I'm scheduled for rotator cuff surgery next week. I fell 6 months ago which caused the injury which also broke my wrist. I had surgery on my wrist 3 weeks after the fall where the surgeon used a plate and 8 screws to repair. That is fine but my shoulder continued to hurt w/o them doing anything but x-rays. Nothing broken. Finally had an MRI 3 weeks ago and the damage reads like this...Near complete to complete tear of the distal supraspinatus tendon, Complete tear of the distal subscapularis tendon with associated medial dislocation of the long head biceps tendon. Also small to moderate amount of fluid about the glenohumeral joint and subacromial-subdeltoid bursae.....also mild infraspinatus tendinosis, mild to moderate fatty atrophy of the subcapularis muscle. The same surgeon will do this surgery. My concern is he didn't seem to think this was so bad, but I know he see this alot. To me, this seems huge and I wonder if after all this time , I will heal completely and have better ROM. Thanks for your help.

This brings back memories...Rotatator repair June 23 with bicep repair and bone spur removal. Sleeping on a wedge pillow helped hugely for the first few weeks, there was no way to sleep flat. Also, start therapy right away. I told my PT, she was just as important as the surgeon. If you don't do PT, the surgery is worthless, the body needs to follow the steps to get to the final result. There was a patient who had both knees replaced at the same time and didn't start PT until 2 months later! He was solid hard like cement...had to go under anesthesia for manipulation! It was so sad to see and hear the man's screams...
I had full joint replacement January 2. Couldn’t take sleeping in recliner any longer than 10 days. Couldn’t take any more Percocet than that either….severe constipation. I’m a side sleeper and never move all night while resting my operation arm on my side without pain.
David, it is tough for a side sleeper after these surgeries. Wedges, recliners, and pillows are often still not enough. Please consider joining our newsletter. Hi David, I suffered the same challenges after my reverse replacement 2 weeks ago. Fortunately I have an adjustable bed and got a pregnancy pillow. Could then sleep on my opposite side and prop my arm with another pillow. Sleep! Also was able to manage pain during the day with Tylenol+ice and only needed narcotics to sleep, which lessens the constipation. I think the antibiotics also contributed to constipation and bloating. Hopefully by now you are well along with full recovery.
First time watching. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise. I had some kind of rotator cuff repair/tear, about 4 weeks ago. The surgeon said my bicep was involved, but that’s all I know. My post surgical pain was off the charts for 2 weeks. At third week, as long as I was fairly still, it was a bit better. Now, at the middle of the 4 weeks, my pain is a bit less. Still though, can only have limited movement. They’re telling me to start physical therapy by next Thursday. I can’t even imagine this. I’m 61, small female with Type1 Osteogenesis Imperfecta. I feel like this bone disease/ collagen disorder, is praying a big role with my recovery and pain. People with OI are very slow to heal and connective tissues are affected. I feel like my doctor isn’t taking these things into consideration. I’m concerned that I’m going to do or not do something that will cause me to lose use of my arm. Not sure what to do.

Thanks so much for your dedication to those of us who need this info. Question: How does the surgeon determine whether the tendonesis is necessary? I'm going in for repair, but the BT isn't torn. I defer to clinical judgement on presentation....still, I am curious. Thank you!

I had a rotator cuff repair in 2015. The pain was tolerable. I refused to take the heavy drug because I didn't like the side effects. The worst for me was PT. It was extremely painful because my arm wouldn't go up. After a few months, I got a cortisone injection which did nothing. My orthopedic decided that I had adhesions and had to have surgery again 6 months later. It worked well. Main thing is, trust your therapist but use your own judgment. Do you therapy at home as prescribed.
I fell in a parking lot, and landed on my shoulder, dislocating my arm from my collar bone, that was just before Halloween in 2023, they done blocks, and finally got the arm reattached, I also broke a piece off my upper arm, (I have pins in it now), they attached my muscles at the same time. I can reach around fairly well, except for in front of me and above my head, I've been going through P/T for a few months, it's going on May now, and they're finally talking about doing a rotator cuff replacement. (Also there's part of my shoulder bone that's missing...

I had a bad fall that dislocated my shoulder and chipped a bone. Surgery was done a week after the fall. Im ten days post surgery and i haven't had any relief from pain. I have muscle spasms all down my arm and my hand hasn't stopped tingling since the fall. What should ibe asking of my surgeon. I'm seeing him today. BTW. Thank you for posting all this helpful information. I watch them while i am up in the night due to pain.

I had labrum repair and tenodesis done 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately I ended up in the hospital 6 days due to pneumonia from aspirated blood into the lungs from a lacerated throat when intubating. While in the hospital I had to remove the wrist from the immobilizer to lower my PJs to use the restroom and felt a pop and my arm went numb. The surgeon saw me 10 days after the surgery and noticed a Popeye arm and when I explained what happened he said the tenodesis was now a tenotomy. He says it won't affect my recovery. He ordered an aggressive rehab program because I had frozen shoulder before the surgery and he wants to avoid that from happening again. I have been having a very sharp pain under the armpit that goes down the arm all the way to my fingers. It also goes to my chest and scapula. I have no strength to even do the wall walk or lift the arm with the assistance of my good arm with the pulley. When assisted by the therapist they can move it almost to head level while lying down but it feels really weird. I had surgery on my other shoulder 3 years ago and recovered really fast and well. Im worried something else might have been ruined but doctor is on vacation till next week and so are therapists. I'm going to try to do some exercises I found online on my own. Do you think I might have hurt something else. I can reach for wallet and move forearm to do regular daily things but can't lift the arm at all.
David, So sorry for your complicated recovery. It is hard to say if something else happened. This is a really tough spot to be in. Give it some time as your still in early recovery. Hopefully your doctor can evaluate your shoulder more closely at your next visit.
I thought the blue was a paw print...... I worked in masonry, Had arthroscopic in December '07 L + '09 R shoulder and my left replaced in Dec 2020. I never needed meds and made sure I did my exercises 3x a day, I had to be ready for the going back to work phone call when the weather got warmer. I learned to shovel with one arm. push the shovel - then lifted the shovel with my foot. My wife ran the snow blower and I moved the chute after the first surgery. Hamburg, NY
Hello, I am five weeks out of labrum repair surgery. I started PT after three weeks.. my shoulder feels extremely heavy, almost as if it’s dislocated a lot of pain I do all the exercises. Is it normal to be this inflamed ? This is extremely painful.
Is it weird to not have any pain? I keep seeing how this surgery is one of the most painful recoveries but I've only had minor discomfort. I had the arthroscopic repair for a full tear and to reattach some of the bicep. It has been 6 weeks and I feel fine without using the sling but don't want to reinjure it by doing too much.
Linda that is great! It is unusual to have minimal pain, however I see it over and over in my pratice. While not typical is it such a blessing when it happens! Good For You Linda!
Hi doc. Here's my question. I am waiting to have a full tear of my subscapular to be repair. Should I be doing any kind of shoulder stretching to reinforce the other tendon, before surgery ? If yes, which one do you recommend so my post surgery has better chance to heal or find it easier to gains strength because of some stretching programme before the surgery. Thanks again doc.
Oneom, In general I don't have anyone do strengthening before shoulder surgery. If there is going to be a long delay until surgery I like my patients to keep their shoulder moving so they don't get stiff. As you know stiffness is common after shoulder surgery and makes it harder to recover.
Also move your fingers. just a week can give you a stiff painful hand that may never get better. I had surgery in June and still can't make a fist. my hand is still stiff and swollen as well as super sensitive to touch. I'm still in OT trying to make a fist.
I just got surgery with a nerve block and I can't even feel my fingers yet.But I'm still trying to move them a little with my other hand just because it's so important 👍
Rubbing alcohol! Works on almost all Sharpie... I have horrible pain 6 months out...my collarbone which nothing was supposed to be done there....I had 3 tear repairs, acrom deride until bleeding of the bone and bicep tenosis.... I've had another MRI W and W/O contrast...supposedly it is doing well...but there's still 6-7 pain most days...any thoughts, ideas, suggestions...thank you 😊

Ice reduces blood flow to the area. Blood flow means nutrients. Nutrients are needed for healing. However, as you point out, ice should be used in the beginning. If if not, there will be an increase in inflammation and swelling. This results an extra pressure. Which results in pain. Which results in need to reduce that swelling.
What do you consider a traumatic rotator cuff tear? Also would you explore physical therapy for partial tears before considering surgery if it's a "traumatic rotator cuff tear"?-

Dec 2022...SLAP w 7 anchors, RCR, SAD and a sub-clavicular someThang. (pitched and rose too much hell in my youth...reckless abandon, I'd say). Ex pharmacist, so counting all those pills prob wore me out lol By Sept '23 had a ridiculous exacerbation of osteoarthritis which made humeral head look like a spike protein or a mace lol. This lead to TSA in Jan '24. My ROM had decreased to only 45° lifting arm front and side. Excruciating pain. Was doing " better than any TSA they had ever seen" at PT rehab postsurgery. Prob 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule at 11 weeks. ( home exercises are a habit after 2 years and I only missed 2-3 days in all that time) Therapist got overzealous on April 1 and overloaded the pulley weight and popped my proximal bicep ...Popeye now. ROM is crap. Surgical repair on Monday morning. I'm getting pretty tired. 62 y.o. physiologically and physically young male. Mesomorph , so shoulder muscles are big and, a-hem, super strong...it's genetic. Hi, I have a left rotator cuff tear that happened two years ago. Pain and ROM is getting worse. Right shoulder bone on bone AC joint. Elbow pain along with that . I have weak , not much muscles in my arms. I probably have some atrophy, I am 48 and beyond scared of surgery . I already backed out of my right shoulder surgery 2 yrs ago, then i injured my left shoulder. I cant take more than one norco for my pain now, so to take more for shoulder surgery, is really considering for me. I have a weak stomach, also suffer with diverticulitis. Is there any other way pain can be managed?? If arms are this weak, how can i bounce back?? If ever?? I have never been this petrified of surgery, also it being my dominant arm, taking care of myself, eating ,writing, working, i am just full of pain agony and worry daily. Thank you for listening and Thank you for any advice or encouragement you can give me.

7 months out of this surgery can we swim or at least get in the water and walk around a bit? What should we watch out for in a warm pool while exercising gently?
Pamela, As you already know, everyone and every repair is different. That being said 7 mo out from a shoulder surgery in most instances, water would be fine (check with your doc). I would watch out getting in and out of the pool -not to slip and fall.

Not exactly rotator cuff related, but take an Expo white board marker and go over the permanent Sharpie marks. That should take the permanent marker off your white board. From a retired Kindergarten Teacher…
Oh no I’m terrified of this surgery. I’ve got a full tear and tendon is completely detached. Can someone tell me on a scale of 1-10 how painful it is post op and for how long

I did schedule an appointment with Dr Joey Powell on Tuesday because I feel like my bicep tendon is just really angry but I've still have really good full range of motion which is great. Admittedly I've been neglectful in working out which I'm guessing is pretty common but will remedy that for sure! Hopefully all I need is some intense PT and then get back to daily maintenance. Whenever you guys can squeeze me in I'll make it work
I'm having surgery this summer. Now I am scared! I have been through physical therapy in the past. My surgeon told me that therapy won't help anymore. It is now bone on bone. My shoulder has gotten out of place. It pops and cracks all of the time. The pain is really bad most of the time. I am ready to have something done, but it is scary.

@@rotatorcuffexpert +12 days post surgery, torn SST, long head of bi & labrum 🤤, was thinking I may go my whole life sans any surgery but oopsie caught an edge snowboarding so guess I'm human after all...the injury didn't feel all that bad but as I began to get ready for surf season my ROM was real limited as I began to practice popping on a practice board in my living room so I knew something was amiss...hoping I'm able to return to the line up and paddle out sans pain in a couple of months...hey there bigger problems in the world but this is my little problemo 😆
I hope you can get back out there too! Please consider joining our newsletter. Just email me at dro@mybodyprotector.com and put yes in the subject line and we will get you set up with a few tip sheets as well!
I had rotator cuff surgery repair Feb 13 2024. My dominant arm. It's very emotional feeling to me. Like so many other people single and leave alone and it's hard to get help when you need it and you got to be very careful and cooking's a bummer too cuz you can't cook.

I have to get rotor cuff surgery May 31. When I went to the orthopedic he said it was from my car accident. I work two jobs at 40 yo. This gonna be a challenge. How long was the pain? When did you return back to work? And how long did it take to drive again? I’m frantic….Tell me your experience
@@angelamills72 I had my right shoulder replaced on Feb. 13th...I can do pretty much anything except for strength in my rt arm...I just started strengh training last week. Pain has subsided. I started PT after about 30 days after surgery. You have to stay up on your pain and as you progress you can go to OTC drugs to manage any discomforts. I can truly say that the first 5 days are the toughest and after that its work but well worth being out of pain and my arm can move freely.
May 21, 2024😢🥴😵💫😵💫🥺😯😖that first & second night I thought my pain was transported from outter space😢it was unbelievable 😳 still experiencing pain not as bad. Your arm won't allow you to more than it can regardless what your mind is saying 😂😂Good Luck🎉❤ you'll hate the immobilizer😂but it helps and is needed 😉
Thank You for confirmation. You feel that you have very little control and must depend on other's. This too will pass in time and is motivation to add extra exercise. From 20 to 25 etc I'm up to 30😊
I'm a PTA in an OP clinic. I am constantly studying and learning. We recently had a pt retear her RC. I've been doing some research on the potential reasons why this happened and found your channel. Great content! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I had a labrum surgery two months ago and one thing i stuffer from is comparing myself to others , i don’t have my full rage of motion like others do . watching this video helped me that everyone recovery progress is different
@@rotatorcuffexpert Additionally, no two surgeries are ever going to be identical. There will always be differences of some kind - location, additional unseen issues until the surgeon is in there, more/less damage than anticipated, other health issues that can impact everything, etc.
Thank you for this video! I'm nearly 3 weeks out from my surgery SAD/DCE, biceps tendonesis, debridement and manipulation for frozen shoulder. Your comments on comparison were just what I needed. I've been searching around every day for more info. I didn't realize going into this surgery how much pain and recovery I'd need. I thought I'd be one of those back to work in 1-2 weeks. Im still in pain, and my elbow still hurts too. I have a desk job, but its constant, fast-paced computer work in a high stress environment. I feel badly I misjudged and will be out at least 2 months, per my doctor now. Thanks again for this video.
8 weeks post op rotator cuff and tendinitis surgery, still having discomfort pain I hurt my shoulder a week ago I heard or felt a pop and I’m praying I didn’t re-injured my shoulder I did ice it off and on for 15 mins it feels much better but it hurts. When the cold air hits my shoulder oh boy I feel it in the bone I can’t wear a bra for a long period of time it hurts also 🤦🏽♀️ help me.
Thank you for your videos! I had my right shoulder repaired for a supraspinatus full thickness tear and a full avulsion of the infraspinatus on 7/5/23 and your videos helped me prepare for the surgery, the post-surgical care and especially the "what can go wrong" risks. I was 64 at the time of surgery still riding my road bike and doing strength training and my surgeon told me that provided a much better matrix of muscle tissue with which to work in the repair sites. I was still amazed to find so much strength and mass were lost during the first 8 weeks of splinted care. Now, over a year later, I'm back to my full ROM and happily doing my strength training with the right arm back to full strength.
I just got home from surgery on my shoulder labrum thank you for the advice even though I was told it it’s just nice to see it again and I’ve been doing everything you said so far so thank you for reaffirming that
