Pure gold! This is the most insightful video I have seen on watches EVER! A lot of watch Gurus end up selling a ton of watches that they end up rebuying, again and again. I think that they like the "hunt" more than actually getting the damn thing and actually using it.
Just found your channel, watched a couple of videos, and immediately subscribed. Your brutally blunt honesty is hilarious. Two months ago I didn't own a single wristwatch. I had a work mission where I very quickly found I needed a wristwatch. I bought a Casio. Then I bought a Seiko. Well, within the last two months, I've become a Seikoholic. My Seiko collection now consists of three dress watches, three casual watches, and three work watches. I think I'm done...but I'm still scanning eBay...just in case. Keep up the great work!!!
Nice watch is like a Medal Of Honour strapped to your wrist. It is ok for the man to have a3-4 nice watches, but 10 will be too much. You don't wasting your money when you buy a new watch. You wasting your time working to acquire this watch....''The Price of anything is the amounth of life you exchange for it''..H.D.Thoreau.from Walden..P.S.Great speach Jeff.
Man, you just slapped the faces of all watch collectors out there and a reality checker. Also, you are the opposite polarity of Archieluxury. Need to subscribe you, Kepp up the great work,
The last part you mentioned is SPOT ON.. i feel the same way. Man you mentioned the exact conditions of a watch addict. Feeling relieved a bit. You are my kind of guy. Cheers
I just came across this video thanks to the magic of the RU-vid algorithm, and I‘m so glad I did. Just experienced principle #2 on WatchUSeek with the new Seiko SJE093. There are over 70 pages in this thread, allowing the dedicated (time-wasting) reader to ride the crest of excitement, anticipation, and FOMO, and then see it break onto the beach of dashed expectations as it becomes clearer that the supply of the watch is a bit less limited than anticipated, and as people realize that its being a little smaller and thinner might not be that life changing after all. Thanks, Jeffrey.
Very very very good video. In fact You talking abt issues similar for all of us those who are watch collectors. I mean You expresssing all thoughts for example I have. Really. Not enough time for watches to wear all of them , then hunting for another one ,then changing the taste a little a bit , then thoughts abt how much money I will spend and should I do it again or not .Also is it still collecting or became habit? When is the time to say Enough!! Very good video , really. Because behind that watch you are wearing on your wrist is a lot of issues which made you look for it ,buy it and wear that watch finally to express something. All those feelings you describing...... do not stop that because apparently all of those you are saying - all is connected and the watch is maybe a final score only.
I made the video in part to help me stop spending or burning so much money and to address my watch obsession more as a neurosis than as a healthy hobby.
Damn, your view/angle of life is sheer enlightenment. I like your videos because when people talk, most of the time, they bore me, but your talk is not boring.
Besides-some people like to just collect watches ,keep them in the box, touch them, and look at them without even wearing, just like post stamps.-nothing wrong with that.
Svek B. I would feel horrible if I couldn't wear my timepces... fuck me dead. fock me dead already. fuck meeeh. Maybe a luxury rolex, sure, I'd wear it more rarely.
Are you trying to tell me that my love affairs with things with Souls, such as mechanical watches, mechanical cameras, writing instruments and firearms are wasting my time and money? Hell man, yes I am an addict. an old addict that will not and can not outlive my collections. If I didn't have the desire for a Soul Laden mechanical object, I would not have purchased the item in the first place. Hell yes I am sick with a sickness that has no cure. I love my sickness. I do not seek a cure. My loved ones, who must eventually suffer with their inheritance agrees. They do not wish me cured, :>) Loved your Video.
Jeff the disparity of a luxury watch and our banal environment love your wisdom its called how to be a total tosser with more money the sense keep up the energy dude
Do you by chance like old radios? I could swear I've read an old blog on old radios that had your name on it. Seiko addict and Zenith Trans Oceanic lover here.
Yeah, I really do love vintage radios; however, I sold them because I couldn't maintain them. I'd love to have a mint Panasonic RF-2200. You did read my old blog Herculodge.
lol, youre hilarious man. Subbed. On a serious note, I really respect your love for JDM. I've owned a Avenger Titanium Chrono (flipped in two months) and currently have two omegas that I'll be selling. That's simply because I get equal if not more satisfaction from my $200-900 watches.
That's interesting. I've never had Omegas or Breitlings. Some people say the upper luxury watches cure them of buying, but your story is different. You find the $900 ones give sufficient satisfaction. Thanks for the heads up.
I think part of it is that I worked these watches up in my head SO much, the romanticism, history, exclusivity, pompous attitude it gives (SNOBBERY!), marketing, the amazing boutiques I walk by in NYC, etc. You come to realize that they're just watches. Now, I tend to obsess over "value/quality for money", which is why I recently bought an Oris Aquis from jomashop. My first achievable grail is a MM300, which I'll probably buy later this year.
Gave me a good laugh!!! The Seiko Black Monster went over my head.... What's wrong with the Seiko Black Monster??? Or, if I like that watch, I'm everything that's wrong with the watch community??? Anyways, I'm subscribing.... Best Wishes, I enjoy your videos....
+Patrick Morrissey Thanks for the sub. Did I say something bad about the Black Monster? I love that watch. It's an icon. I'll have to examine what I said in this video. I must have been unclear. I'm a huge fan of all Seiko Divers, especially the Monsters, Tunas, and Marinemasters.
I have about 30 automatics, including vintage watches, should i buy more,i still don't have a SEIKO TUNA or THE SEIKO MONSTER,wich i love both of them dearly,i feel empty Dr. MacMahon. "HAVE WATCH,WILL TRAVEL".
I would sell several watches to fund the Tuna. For me, I became happier after I got my collection from 55 to today's 7. I may get a Promaster BN7020 eventually, but I'm in no rush.
Disquietingly on the mark again, though off in one minor detail: chips are the surfing snack of choice...but the crumbs sometimes get in your underwear. :-)
Priceless . I 've been laughing for the last half an our . I live in Miami ....... Land of the idiot .... Home of the bad taste ..... Lol . You just hit the nail right on the head . You deserve your own show on prime time .
