This video confuses me. Don't true crime/mystery/storytelling RU-vid channels like 'TOP5s' check out other creators' recent content, before they post a new video? This video is so full of ancient, many times repeated stories we're all frankly bored of, it's embarrassing 'TOP5s' has posted it as 'new' content! Mr Ballen just posted the same OLD story about the scuba diving couple whose disappearance inspired the 2003 film 'Open Water'. YAWN! It's been on umpteen other RU-vid channels and TV docos/reports too, and it's not surprising - that couple vanished in 1998, 23 years ago! The well-covered story of the Russian grave robber has been featured on many RU-vid and other platforms umpteen times before too. I honestly don't know how a/ 'TOP5s' hasn't already featured these cases before and b/ Why they are bothering to feature them now, when they are so incredibly old, dated and well known! Seems 'TOP5s' has run out of ideas for fresh content. You'd better buck your ideas up boys, or you will lose subs. Don't get lazy - you might have a popular RU-vid channel now, but your sub numbers and views are only as good as the videos you make. Keep up this poor standard of stale content, and you'll be lucky if my dog tunes in!
What if he really used to have sex with the dolls, and made up the story he treats them like his daughters when he was caught so he wont be embarrassed. I mean the police believed what he said.
Some people act like He knew exactly what. He was doing Man was psychologically damaged Apparently he just wanted. A daughter Eleanor Neale does a better explanation than me, in 'a 2 part series She goes in depth.'0
And how crazy, or "eccentric" people really are when left to their own devices. This man was, what? A PhD holder or something to that level... He was considered reputable in his field, even sought out for his knowledge, research, and 𝙙𝙚𝙙𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. (get it?😏deAd🤪) s𝐎ʀ𝐑ʏت︎
Every time I hear his story, I can only feel sympathy. The guy never wanted to hurt anyone, he didn't desecrate their graves for any creepy sexual reasons, he just wanted daughters to love and raise and really thought he could somehow father these girls back to life.... I hate when people call his story creepy or disturbing. Like yes, it is weird but the most disturbing part of the story is how often people who need caring, thoughtful therapy and rehabilitation are often neglected and ignored instead
@@Oumaimaa007 yeah go get it checked out but more than likely it's just stress and anxiety. I had a few ocations when that happened to me and they did all the tests on me and came out fine, for me it was anxiety cause from stress.
Yeah there’s no way in Hell I’d ever go into a cave, with or without water in it. It makes no sense whatsoever. Dig a muddy hole in your back yard and blindfold yourself at night and roll around in the muddy water in the dark with a snorkel and you can experience what cave divers do. It’s just stupid to me. I see no pleasure in doing anything like that. I can understand the ocean and all the different things you can do for fun especially in a beautiful place. It’s completely different from caves. Both can be equally dangerous but at least I can see why someone would want to go out on the sea, but the mud filled dark cave? Sorry I don’t understand why. I went on a cave rescue call in my rookie year and watched a boy cry for his mother while being crushed to death by the boulder that slid down onto his back as he squeezed out of the main entrance of the recently discovered opening of a cave that wasn’t available before. A major spring storm washed away the dirt and stones hiding the cave from park goers. It was sealed up after removing his body. He was within mere feet from being out of the cave. The rock that pinned him was several thousand pounds and only shifted a few inches but it was enough to pin him face down on his stomach as he got to the one and only entrance/exit and was the last one to come out. A matter of just seconds would have saved his life but the timing was fatal. It was a slow painful death that I witnessed. All he wanted was to let his mom know he was sorry for causing her pain and sadness. Truly tragic for what? To crawl around in a filthy black muddy hole? Makes absolutely no sense to me.
Me, too. I was thinking the same thing. How lonely he must have been...but yeah, even knowing he did have a mental disease that spurred these macabre actions, it's still sad. He gave them button eyes so they could watch cartoons together --celebrated their birthdays? Oh, my mind just wandered with that thought: Imagine getting an invitation for your daughter and yourself to attend their birthday? Opening up the envelope (with no return address): "insert name of cemetery here" invites you to celebrate "Jane Doe's" tenth--and forever tenth--birthday party! No presents required!"
The Russian grave robber tale is such an old and often-told story, I'm amazed you haven't heard it many times before! Ditto the scuba diving couple who vanished in 1998, inspiring the 2003 movie 'Open Water'. It's 23 years old! Mr Ballen recently featured that one too - what amazing 'new' revelation will these guys shock us with next, the sinking of the Titanic, LOL?!
As soon as you said”Brought up in a strict Mormon family and the father was a disciplinarian”, I knew exactly where this was going. That is a recipe for disaster
These stories always make me sad and annoyed. Since I’m a member of the same church, these kind of crimes just seem to make us look like a bunch of monsters, when in reality these are just cases of total nut-jobs taking things WAY too extreme.
I first heard about John Edward Jones on a different RU-vid channel. It made me cry because of the detail he put into the video. It's so scary, thinking about that poor man and his wife and baby never getting to bury him.
Normally I wouldn't say this, but his stupidity and recklessness could of gotten others killed. He died searching for a adrenaline rush. He knew the risk and took it.
John's story broke my heart. I can't imagine the pain his wife went through or the agony that John experienced. Getting trapped in a tight space is my nightmare!
I read an article about John in the nutty putty cave and it tore me up. It was so detailed from Suzies perspective and other rescuers. It was heartbreaking what happened to him.
WHOA. I have been haunted by 'Open Water' ever since I saw it. It's not a well-known blockbuster because it's mostly a 2-person act and no famous names, but the writing and acting are superb, such a believable portrayal. But the thing that haunted me the most was also the thing that I thought a bit of a stretch: that ALL of the employees an other passengers on the boat would fail to notice two whole people being missing from a not-that-big group of people, when leaving from the dive. I thought the movie did a great job showing how that could happen by relying solely on a "buddy system" instead of a systematic checklist or whatever, but I didn't think it could happen in real life. And now you're telling me that not only WAS this a true event, but that it left clues to a potential alternate ending, a faked death?!! TOP 5'S YOU ARE THE BEST!! YOU COMPLETE ME!! LOL!!!!!!!!
Yeah I remember when that movie came out. It was low-budget but it did show how terrifying the ocean can be. Yes you'd be surprised at how inept and clueless people can be in any given group and also how incompetent people are at running things. I've seen it close up. It's a shame.
I just randomly searched your guys channel and to my surprise you posted 4 mins ago! Love your longer videos, you’re very respectful and do very extensive research. Keep it up team!
Why does it take so long to execute someone? Dude was condemned to firing squad... in a year? Seems like that could be done with in an afternoon, even if you dragged it out. Just get it over with...?
I remember watching that video when I was going around the Internet long time ago, that video and the guy who k1lled the 2 kittens and his ex boyfriend, both these videos scarred me for life, definitely the types of videos that stay with you for a very long time, I recommend anyone who wants to keep their sanity, don’t watch it please.
I've no idea why a head count is deemed enough on dive boats - surely divers should sign in a book prior to their dive and immediately upon return. It's easy to mess up a head count, but signatures are a different proposition.
Out of all the ways i would least like to die aside from drowning or being burned alive being trapped in a cave for hours and suffocating to death is right up there with the most horrifying.
4:14 There’s a movie based on them being left behind called, “Empty Water.” The people who owned the dive company really had no business running such a company as they had the worst way of making sure all divers had returned to the boat...by counting heads, because nothing could go wrong using such a ridiculous system. The owners counted wrong, AND they found the couple’s bags still on the boat after they returned to land and even that wasn’t enough for them to ask themselves if it was possible they left at least one person behind. It took a few days for them to realize no one had returned for the bags. When idiots run companies people end up dying.
Yep it was boring AF. I couldn't watch the first or last videos either - I've seen both stories featured umpteen times before on other RU-vid channels and on TV documentaries. Not sure why they bothered to feature such ancient cases (number five, the scuba couple left behind, happened in 1998 - that's 23 years ago FFS!) The 'TOP5s' channel is obviously running out of ideas for content! They need to buck their ideas up or people will vote with their feet and unsubscribe. Laziness will backfire on them. There are a lot of great, brand new RU-vid channels popping up all the time, with NEW content!
@@Demirae9 Bitter? LOL! It's a RU-vid channel, what's to be bitter about? Bitter is Jews whose loved ones died in the Nazi holocaust. Lighten up! Any RU-vid channel worth its salt posts stories fresher than the two I've pointed out the considerable age of. Stories 5 and 1 are OLD and have been told many times before. If they don't have anything fresh to add to them, they should leave well alone. If the team behind 'TOP5s' has any integrity or standards, they will appreciate valid criticism, realise they didn't come up to scratch this time (they didn't), and work harder next time. Posting such old, often-told cases reflects really badly on them. The couple whose story inspired the movie 'Open Water' disappeared in 1998 FFS! That's 23 years ago - I doubt you were even a foetus then! If you're a sensitive flower who can't handle people expressing views you don't agree with, don't read the Comments section! It's for ALL opinions, good and bad - it isn't a fan site sweetie!
Having been on cave rescues I agree. It’s the first and last time I went into a cave. I wasn’t even that far in, the young man was pinned by a huge bolder that had slipped down onto his back as he was crawling under it to exit. He was 50 feet from freedom and he spent his last moments crying out for his mother. He wanted us to tell her how sorry he was for causing her so much pain. He knew he was going to die and was terrified. I’ll never go back into a cave again. It’s so far beyond what I can understand and I see absolutely no reason to ever go into one except for a rescue. They only happen when someone goes into a risky place. They made the choice to go in there. No one forced them. I do feel sorry for him and his family but even they said “why would they (the kids playing) go in there?” We certainly didn’t have any answers. We only went in because someone was trapped. We sealed the cave up before leaving. The cave had appeared after a major storm had washed away the debris that exposed the entrance. Just a small hole in a bank along the back road in a National park. A group of teenagers decided to explore the new opening and as the last boy was crawling out the rock shifted and he was caught between the boulder and the rock floor of the cave. It restricted his breathing and he slowly suffocated. I’ll never forget his voice. His last words are etched into my permanent memory.
I just never get tired of your videos. Sometimes I need something a little more lively, when I’m really tired but other than that it’s just a great channel, year after year. Great info, presented wonderfully. Thank you!
I really appreciate the way you have breaks set up for each story. I tend to watch these at work and I get off track and have to rewind. 😩 Always enjoy your content!!
@@joethebrowser2743 apparently I am if I'm not paying attention to the video. Can't help it I'm blessed to have a job where I'm allowed to listen to something other than silence..
Just wanna say that I recently discovered this channel and I am HUGELY impressed by the quality of the content. So much so that I am now a patron. Thank y'all for the hard work. It really shows!
I remember when the Dnepropetrovsk Maniacs video was going round, 3 guys 1 hammer or something along those lines. I was only around 13-14 when I seen it and after I had I realized just how evil humans can be, the things they did to that man. Wouldn't advise looking for it, definitely wouldn't advise copying it.
Was looking for this comment. I was about twelve when that video was going around, I remember clicking it and watching for a brief moment before clicking out because I began to realize what was happening. Didn't trust the internet (or people) so openly from then on.
The sounds from that video are still stuck in my head all these years later. I absolutely second the recommendation to not look for it, and that’s coming from someone who’s seen a lot of horrendous things on the internet.
These stories are really terrifying, having just completed a course in my sociology class about human behavior and imprinting disorders this video breaks that down specifically. Great video
The cave one crushed me. I'm not sure if it was how it was told or what...I think it's the picture of him where they were SO close to rescuing him, only for him to slip down even deeper, never to see the light again, never for his body to even be recovered :'( . Slowly watching someone slip away like that (or to be the one to slowly sip away) has to be just the most helpless heartbreak a person can experience.
John death must be the most brutal deaths i have ever heard. Upside down for many hours, unable to move for many hours. Finally being free, only for it taken away again and you are further pinned. Hours would of felt like days. Dont think there is a worth death out there, and if there is, i dont think i want to know about it!!!
Exactly. Those of us that pay for that service now have to hear the same ads from the same 3 companies on every video for more and more channels now. Not to mention more and more people going on and on about their Patreon. It’s all just getting to be too much.
@@tbolinger75 Fair enough but it's still only a minor inconvenience--for instance I fell asleep to some scary stories video but just woke up to apparently the last 45 minutes of like some three hour ad of some guy just talking, which was bullshit. That would've been a good time for one to have RU-vid Red--so besides the short sponsor from the video itself, at least you don't have those ads getting in the way.
#1- I could be wrong but I'm pretty positive that isn't how a dad treats his daughters... Also its clear his parents were either ridiculously oblivious to the mountain of red flags he was throwing up or just straight up ignored him... He needed help and things went very wrong with him and for him.
Being left in the ocean, that shouldn't happen. A clear and accurate count is mandatory . I can't imagine their plight , I'm a ocean person, in the ocean my whole life, swim like a fish, even so, being left out in the ocean is scary beyond , its life and death just bobbing up and down. I pray for lost souls 🙏
If the 2 divers were stranded with no help in sight, what would be the point of writing a “help us” note on a piece of plastic smaller a standard piece of writing paper? About the size of a hand. There would be no actual way anyone could be notified of this unless they had actually found the note and held it themselves. It’s not like a flare or a mirror bouncing sunlight off of it towards the direction of a passing vessel.
How could that one monster get FIVE years to life for the horrific murders he committed?!? I’m glad he’s still in prison and hope he dies there! Both the Tom and Eileen Lonergan story and the young man who suffocated to death in that cave are absolutely heartbreaking!
Damn the last guy wins the award for biggest weirdo. Instead of developing a relationship with a living woman and having a family he digs up dead people. Like wtf bro?
Those guys from Ukraine. I remember hearing of their video “3 guys 1 hammer” when I was in high school over a decade ago. (Don’t watch it) I didn’t know these were the guys. They recorded beating their victims with a hammer. Absolutely horrible and disgusting.
I'm curious why they didnt swim in the general direction they came from. That along with using the sun as guidance theoretically it could have been possible to survive.
Did you used to have a video about what happened to our conscience when we die ? I swear I saw it on this channel years ago but I can’t find it. It was super interesting, you talked about different levels of conscience and this scientist who tried to explore other realms? I’m prob not explaining this well but does it sound at all familiar?
@@Mambi20 I wish I knew. I’m really after the name of the doctor/scientist the video talked about. I remember going to the website. They offered sleep study sessions and things like that. I wish I could find it again but when I search I just can’t come up with the right terms. I’d love to see that video one more time, I remember top5 got pretty deep in it and told us about his NDE at a young age im pretty sure.
How people like josh put themselves in that situation, I spent an hour right down the bottom of a coal mine in Chatterley Whitfield during a school trip and that freaked the hell out of me I could never go cave diving or exploration.
