Girl....homeschooling might not have been your first choice but I have never been more confident that you should be teaching your kids. Your kids are going to be just what this world needs.

My family we started homeschooling this year we had a daughters in private school due to both myself and husband working odd hours. It was really good school and teachers but I just had been wanting to do it for years. With all the craziness going around and there was so much I didn’t agree with the history part I decided to stay home with my girls. We did a soft open in June so we could take our time and see what works. Homeschooling has been the best decision we have done. Learning is fun for my girls and we get to dive deep in subjects and things that in a traditional school you don’t get. Good luck on your homeschooling year.

Hey Maryanne, that's great to hear! Congrats on starting on this crazy homeschooling journey too 😀 Interesting to hear that your journey was similar to ours. Our girls were in public, not private, school but it was also a good school and overall a great experience. But history was definitely one of the sticking points for me. We're excited about this new direction we're taking - thanks for sharing your experience! Hope to hear more about your family's homeschool soon.

I completely understand how you feel in regards to respect and boundaries and all that. That's how I was raised and that's how I feel as well. I also have a problem with history being taught from only one perspective, and it's one of my reasons to want to homeschool. My oldest only went through one year of preschool, cut short because of the pandemic, but it was enough for me to see a gap between my child at home and the child the teacher was describing to me. My child is very shy and wasn't giving them all the information they were expecting, I guess. I know she knew all her letters and their sounds from 18 months old, so it shocked me when at 3yo her preschool teacher said she didn't know all her letters yet. I knew right then that it was because of her behavior, not her skills. She liked school, but now that we've seen all the advantages of homeschooling, I don't think we're going back. Anyway, I'm excited to have found your channel and I can't wait to see more of your videos.

I’m so glad you started this channel! I have been an elementary teacher and this year I’m working as a tutor supporting kids with their virtual learning. I’m really passionate about knowledge-based curriculum that centers history, geography, and literature (I read The Knowledge Gap last year and it changed my world.) Unfortunately the public school districts in my area offer very little social studies instruction in elementary school. So I’ve been researching and learning about alternative methods for teaching and ways to incorporate content into learning. All this is to say, I love your perspective about history. I feel like every year I learn something new that challenges the historical narrative I was taught in school. I would love to teach in a school where history is a major part of the elementary curriculum. I won’t get too deep into the weeds with my educational philosophy but I’m very excited to follow your family’s journey.

Your approach sounds amazing! I absolutely loved history when I was a kid and it would’ve been great if there was more of it infused throughout! Also now I have to read The Knowledge Gap lol. Thanks for watching and for your insightful comment! So happy you’re here 😀

YES!!! When you said they can be more themselves that is HUGE! I'm a mom of 3, and this coming school year I will be homeschool my youngest (she'll be 4). My older 2 are from a previous marriage, and their dad is not on board with homeschool, but my husband is 100%. I'm super excited to go on this adventure with her!

Yes! And I don't necessarily blame the school/teachers themselves - I suspect a lot of this US history stuff is handed down by the Department of Education and they're just made to teach it that way. But yeah, it's 2020 so time to let go of some of these myths and teach our kids a more realistic view of how things really went down.

Very interesting channel, fell on this by accident through your one of your travel video. I don’t have small children anymore but that may change in the near future so I’m looking forward to seeing what you do. I really appreciate your view and outlook on homeschool and objectives for learning that is not only based on religious beliefs (although I am a Christian) but a realistic view of history and I love love love to travel. I would also like to know how you became a travel creator so I will be checking your other channel. Thanks for this channel

Whaaaaatttt!! Can we not have so much in common! 😁... 😂😂😂 😂 My mom is a teacher. Actually both my parents, my dad was also a teacher and has been retired for 3 years now. My mom is still teaching , maths and science on a public primary school. I hear get your concerns about the public school system. Public schools here in SA are really very similar to what you described. I find that private schools here in south africa are much more liberating to the leaners not only on academic and also sports etc hence why we decided after 2 years of our 1st daughter in public we decided to move her to a private and we were much more satisfied with that and so we started the younger ones with private right away from kindergarten. The mist important reason for us was also how the curriculum is constantly being changed here. The current one is "CAPS" which we do not really like , the nicest thing was that we got to pick a school with a curriculum we can really relate

For someone criticising verbal/mental gymnastics, this video seemed to contain a lot of it. Teachers don't deserve respect based solely on their profession. Because of the way funding works, the public education system rewards the masses and suppresses the gifted. Public schooling IS the experiment, not homeschooling. Kids aren't meant to spend 8 hours per day sitting in a cement structure. It's ok to say this.

Thank you for your channel and for sharing your timeline with us all! Wondering if you have ever heard of the book "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America: A Chronological Paper Trail (1999-09-01) by Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt"?
