There is also the fact that having a girlfriend can be extremely exhausting. And when I say extremely, I mean it. A few years ago I was in a relationship with a girl, which lasted two and a half years. I made the huge mistake of trying to save her. She had a broken family, a complicated past and a lot of trauma. I wasn't allowed to go out anymore, just having a student job drove her crazy and she cried because she said I was leaving her alone. I ended the relationship when she started hitting and biting me in the middle of a party with her friends. She even convinced them that I was to blame. She even spread the word in all my social circles that I was a monster during our relationship and that I often hit her. I ended up gaining weight, distancing myself from my family, developing self-confidence issues. I lost friends and fell into very bad habits to forget what I was going through with her. (drinking and gambling) Oh yes. Fun fact. She found a guy a week after we broke up. :) Obviously, I'm at fault for giving up everything for her.
