@@AdamJBell Hahahahaha Best to save some money and buy pre-sale In Surrey, North. You can buy a new unit for $330K. Down payment of $65K. Surrey is the fastest growing city in Canada.
Great video Adam. I’ve lived in Vancouver for the past 10 years and agree with all these points. I do love it here though. Best part is not having to deal with extreme cold temperatures, it rarely dips below zero. The scenery is beautiful too, like living inside a post card.
I recently move to Vancouver from Europe. I watched your videos during my 2 weeks quarantine and you saved me from insanity xD It’s awesome to get this local info!! Keep it up, dude!!
I’m from England so it has similar weather conditions that I’m used to! Vancouver is warmed by the Kuroshio Current originating in Taiwan and the Philippines, like the UK is warmed by the Gulf Stream originating in Florida and the Caribbean.
I just wanted to let you know how much I love your channel! It covers multiple topics but it’s all things I’m interested in such as RU-vid and Vancouver (I love watching videos about my city!). Keep up the great work
I've lived and worked in a few different countries and I have to say Vancouver gets the number 1 spot for being the biggest hype job, lived here for over a year now and I'm moving back to Calgary in the new year, way better city and rarely rains, way more outdoorsy in the winter, can actually save money, basically no traffic, 250+ days of sunshine per year
Hi Adam. I'm a subscriber. Love most things Vancouver. You did exceptionally well on this one. In my opinion. For what it's worth 😃 I'm 54 . Born and raised and still here . Seen what has happened to Vancouver since the world discovered it in 1986. It's to late to turn people off to what a truly glorious place we live in. Many things change about Vancouver. Same as most places. But never ever will the nature not be it's greatest appeal. Best wishes for 2021❤
Best advice for someone looking to move to Vancouver or the surrounding area, get a job first before you decide to move. Never move somewhere like Vancouver before finding work.
@@wellyforpm are you serious? Canada is the second biggest country in the world and has less citizens compared to Germany. More skilled immigration means a better economy for Canada 🙄
@@DeGoya in retrospect to them/canadians toronto and vancouver are crowded as they are biggest cities in cad but they dont know what actual crowded means lmao
@@wellyforpm If you say this regarding the inflated home prices. Your government should do something against money laundering, speculation, and bad zoning. The immigrants are only a tiny fraction of that problem
I am a single man and just about to retire from work. Job would not be an issue for me but I guess there is much more to consider about Vancouver as you showed us. Thank you Adam!
I was literally planning on going out there in March and potentially moving there after Summer... I think I can handle the cold though after living in North Dakota haha! Excellent video🙂 Support from a fellow content creator!
You might want to rethink that move! Costs are much higher than in the UK, pay is lower, and there are very few jobs. I would advise you to research whether your particular profession or field of employment exists or is viable in Vancouver. Many are not.
the surrounding suburbs are getting a lot more attention nowadays. rent is obviously cheaper. But the areas are still beautiful and Vancouver is just a 20- 45min drive away for most people. Transit is very good too.
I have to disagree regarding transit. Vancouver transit sucks. Especially if you are trying to get across the metro transit area.....forget about it! I lived in Vancouver for decades, and it's transit system is one reason to dislike the city.
A young guy from Newfoundland moves to British Columbia and goes to a big "everything under one roof" department store looking for a job. The Manager says, "Do you have any sales experience?" The kid says "Yeah. I was a vacuum salesman back in Newfoundland." Well, the boss was unsure, but he liked the kid and figured he'd give him a shot, so he gave him the job. "You start tomorrow. I'll come down after we close and see how you did." His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down to the sales floor. "How many customers bought something from you today?" The kid frowns and looks at the floor and mutters, "One". The boss says "Just one?!!? Our salespeople average sales of 20 to 30 customers a day. That will have to change, and soon if you'd like to continue your employment here. We have very strict standards for our sales force here in Vancouver. One sale a day might have been acceptable in Newfoundland, but you're not on the farm anymore, son." The kid took his beating but continued to look at his shoes, so the boss felt kind of bad for chewing him out on his first day. He asked (semi-sarcastically), "So, how much was your one sale for?" The kid looks up at his boss and says "$101,237.65.′′ The boss, astonished, says, "$101,237.65?!? What the heck did you sell?" The kid says, "Well, first, I sold him some new fish hooks. Then I sold him a new fishing rod to go with his new hooks. Then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down the coast, so I told him he was going to need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him a twin engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4×4 Expedition." The boss said, "A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a boat and a TRUCK!?" The kid said, "No, the guy came in here to buy tampons for his wife, and I said, 'Dude, your weekend's shot, you should go fishing.'"
These videos are really helpful 🙂 I should be moving to Vancouver by summer time from the U.K and this is giving me a lot to consider and prepare for. Those reasons don't put me off, I'm all about the outdoors and being British, I can handle the grey days! Only the cost might give me a headache looking for somewhere to rent but I'll figure it out 🤔
We've been pretty lucky so far this year. Hopefully won't get to cold this year. We live in a One bedroom and lay 1,430.00 a month. It's worth the view of the mountains.
I grew up in Vancouver and moved to southeastern Ontario 35 years ago when I was 25, and found out what winter was. I was shocked. I'd never seen snow or cold like before, but also saw a lot of sun. I'd say Vancouver has 3 weather changes with winter more like a cold fall. ;)
I moved from Toronto 1.5 yrs ago. I live in Yaletown now, and the cost of living isn't an issue for me because I was used to Toronto. The rain and months of not much sun is not for everyone, but so far I don't mind. There is a homeless/drug issue in parts of the city that the government doesn't seem able to do anything about.
So very expensive but such a beautiful place ☺️ I love the culture here everyone’s very friendly for the most part and the weather apart from the rain is nice
I think it would be better to move to Canada while your a young person because you can handle the hard work of finding a job and housing and you have to get use to living in a different country and environment
Hey 👋, I think you should do a video on the different job opportunities there is. Also, what Colleges are there in Canada that you know about? Has Covid affected Vancouver drastically during 2020? Has that affected the job opportunities there are? Where did you live before you went to Vancouver? Haha, don’t mean to ask so many questions but I have quite a lot more.
I live in British Columbia I agree with you on this because it definitely sucks here and the most coldest places are mostly small towns and villages I’m from a village called burns lake B.C.
@@AdamJBell bro you're gonna get there. You have that swag factor. I think I'm gonna try to start a channel myself actually. Hoping to learn from you haha
Ontario only has 2 seasons pretty much. Winter is like 7 months, summer is 3 months and we get 1 month each of spring and fall, if that! Thats why I want to move to Vancouver but the cost of living is about the same or above than Toronto
Great video! I live in Ontario and while we deal with more snow and colder winter temps, we get tons of sun in all 4 seasons. There is absolutely no way I could endure the rain and number of grey, overcast days you get in Vancouver and the lower mainland. Great looking city on a clear day, but not nearly enough clear days for my liking.
The other reason Vancouver so expensive because it's Canadian Hollywood they shot a lot of TV shows and movies around the area. In the Alberta Providence Edmonton and Calvary is pretty reasonable place to stay in Canada and they actually beautiful cities and not less desirable from what I heard!!!
I respond to every single person that messages me unless it is hateful or unrealistic. Many people don't understand that I can not respond to messages every single day, it takes time.
4 weathers? you mean rain or sunshine, clouds or some clear skies in the summer... but rent... rents.... confusion of minors... and more rent... British Columbia. This fun stuff is only when you are not a regular person or the son or daughter of one until they wake up from the Disney channel.
FYI Victoria is also very expensive. Less than Vancouver but not by much. The average 1 bedroom is about $1400 (for the run down bad area one brs) and downtown Vic the average 1 br is $1600-1800.
If you don’t need to live in a really big city Victoria is close by and you can visit Vancouver as often as you want, living cost are way better and Seattle is else only 3 hour boat ride from Victoria
Well if you're posted to Vancouver as an RCMP officer or you join the Vancouver Police Department, you have no choice but to move to Vancouver. Good news is that as an RCMP officer you will probably spend 3 to 5 years posted in Vancouver.
You forgot the miserable traffic, expensive parking and auto insurance and high gasoline prices. And the ways the roads are planned doesn't help either. If you come into town off the Trans Canada Highway and want to get to the downtown core there is no expressway to take you there. After struggling with rush hour traffic on the freeway which is getting close to lasting most of the day you have about 3 or 4 exits to take to the city before it crosses the bridge to North Vancouver. Then once you've taken one of those exits you can count on another 45 minutes or so of stop and go traffic to get to downtown. Same bulls**t coming back. It's amazing that by 2021 they haven't created expressways or even discuss it.
I just know what time i can be free of it as for me i find it if i want to go to vancouver which is only 2 hours away from me i have to go early and then leave before rush hour.
Having 4 seasons is great imo. Expensive city... yea :( Im an indoor person but vancouver made me go out xd i wish i had gone out more it was beautiful. Cold in vancouver is pretty endurable compared to many similar cities. Also thanks to global warming (well... this is not supposed to be a good thing actually) vancouver gets less cold in general. At least in summers :p ( that extreme 40 degree last year lol) Multicultural environment of vancouver was good.
As someone who lived in Vancouver for 30 years, and gladly goat the hell out of there, the main reason not to move to Vancouver would be: 1) it is a shithole 2) It rains every day...from September to June and has cool summers 3) Everything is overpriced 4) Transit stinks 5) Traffic is insane 6) Very few jobs (apart from construction, real estate, and dope sector) 7) Very low pay scale ...etc
You forgot to mention the snobby, shallow, trendy, troll yuppies that think they are better than everyone bc they have a Vancouver address... I had one once and it wasn't worth it...
Vancouver is full of homeless people. More than 1.300 people died last year 2020 from overdose , a lot of misery here. Sad 💔 😪 Spare a change please everywhere around the city 😫😫😫 Which sucks 👎👎 Oh Canada 🇨🇦 🙄
The drug issue is a problem in big/major cities, even in smaller Winnipeg. I moved to Richmond from Edmonton, and I would take rain anytime over snow, on winter time - which is the case in Vancouver during winter, lots of rain
I think weather is good here, even winter months you get some nice and warm days..I lived in Qc and it s either freezing or scorching…2 weeks of spring and fall :/
I read everywhere that it is nearly impossible to make friends in Vancouver and that people are similarly superficial as in Los Angeles. Is it really *that* bad?
Nah people are people. Join clubs you'll meet good people for sure. Sure it's not a village like cummunity feel but if you try you can make soke good friends.
This video made by a Canadian guy about the downsides of Canada. I found it about 6 months ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i3tFlqFsWfI.html I believe it tells some real truths about North America in general in terms of living costs, Canadian girls (many of whom are in fact very lonely and unhappy) purchasing power that keeps decreasing as well as how most girls are here!!! It really shows us how the media can influence the way we perceive the world and I am well positioned to say this as I have worked for a long Time in much poorer countries than The US or Canada and what this guys says is just so true!! There are positive aspects of living in places like Mexico or South America that you will Never ever experience in Canada or the US!
My family moved from Vancouver all the way to Halifax, and the house we live in here in Halifax has a guest house, boat house and pool house, and the main house is HUGE compared to the house I grew up in, in Shaughnessy, and it's cheaper lol.. In Shaughnessy this house would cost between 15 and 20+ million.. We are paying 3, here in Halifax LOL.. Cheaper than some condos in Vancouver lol...There is less to do here and tiny Japanese community, in comparison to BC (i am Japanese), but i was local to the second best school in Canada, for my degree!.. Vancouver is for the wealthy or foolish.. Foolish if you go there broke lol... I'm lucky because my parents were self made millionaires before I was born.. If you are wealthy in Vancouver and move somewhere like Halifax, you'll laugh because living is so cheap lol.. I always have a huge surplus of expendable income compared to if I was in Vancouver... I'm from Japan but consider Vancouver my home, but wouldn't recommend it as the best place to live in Canada Nobody would ask if they can wear shorts and Tshirts year round in a Canadian city lol
Moved here 2 years ago... quite frankly I'm still finding a reason to like it. All the buzz I kept hearing about Vancouver and Richmond. Seems to be just that. Add to the fact Covid happened kinda just feel isolated here. maybe things will get better?
Reason 1. is not true at all. Vancouver does not have drastically different seasons. lol Overall, all seasons are very mild, summer is not too hot, very comfortable temperatures. Autumn and winter are basically the same, very rainy but not cold.
I stayed in Canada for a year and I'm afraid I have to tell you, there aren't many good looking people in Canada. You can't compare that to Europe at all, and it's not because everyone has different tastes. I can recognize beauty when I see it, even when it's not my type
Vancouver is not the only city in Canada with 4 seasons, what a stupid statement. people from all over the world come to Ottawa and west Quebec for the turning of the leafs. I lived in Ottawa for a bit and hated winter and summer there , but spring and fall were the best time.
I wish I sought out this type of videos (reasons not to xxx) before moving to Vancouver! I can’t believe I drove my ass all the way from New England, in the midst of a global pandemic, to this depressing af place that is RAINcouver!! Seriously, I know it’s mentioned in the video but I don’t think this point was emphasized nearly enough. If you don’t like constant rain for consecutive days and sometimes even weeks to come, not to mention in winter months as opposed to summer months, and especially if you HAVE to go out everyday for things like walking your dog, you will NOT enjoy Vancouver!!! Great video, and no offense but I can’t wait to move to Ontario in a few months...
Anything in the Fraser Valley. Abbotsford is still affordable in general and the community is multicultural and growing. Lots of jobs compared to other parts of Canada. Also, close to Vancouver if you want a change of scenery.
Oh my god was in Vancouver for a year but im in alberta now, Vancouver rains sooo much and in the winter i.t i.s s.o w.e.t a.n.d i.t. r.a.i.n.s. s.o m.u.c.h (alberta is freeeezing right now)
Don't forget the embarrassing lack of multiculturalism. And becuz of that lack of multiculturism it is EXTREMELY racist. Dude ask white people about Asian drivers....it's gross. Compared to even the suburbs of Toronto, the diversity in Van is unbelievably lacking. Oh and the extreme cost of living for no damn reason. Literally NO reason, except gatekeeping. It's also tragically small. Very very small. Barely a city and definitely not a "world class" city
You can do shorts and t shirt year round. It rarely gets to freezing temperatures in Vancouver. It’s a two season city in my opinion. Rainy season and sunny season. Rain 10 months of the year.
The only reason we stay here because of free health care and people take care of the weak. But that's about it oh and really you don't need to drive i know that much everything you need is bus money you don't even need taxi's at all either. Now the worst part is its to damn expensive not just rent by even items you want to get like gas and food exc. Specially we are in the top 5 most expensive places in the world now. Oh yha one last thing no free parking space in the city as well and most of it is one way so that's why i always advice new comers do not drive its pointless. Also yes the whether to and i always tell people this and that is to bring a zippper jacket hoody works to but i say zipper is the best as we always get random weather crap here and there not the day but mins and hours it changes. So always wear a jacket when coming here.
I lived in Vancouver for almost a year and it still feels like a second home to me, however it's way too expensive for what you get for. It's extremely hard to find a good job, rent is overpriced, dating and making friends is kinda hard and the food quality, in many places, isn't the best. What I do love about Vancouver though are the people, the vibes, outdoor activities. I loved walking through Stanley Park and going to Lynn Valley in the summer. I'm still contemplating if I should move back to Vancouver, but I'd have to do my masters first, find a good job in before and have a second income to effort it.
