I'm an old poky-slow trail rider, so my only concerns were electrical and fuel economy. On my Xtrainer, I re-routed & sealed most of the connections (dielectric grease). I also found the carb a pain to R&R for servicing, so I installed a smart carb II. I believe the bike is getting almost 50% better mileage with even better response.
Funny Xtrainer sales crank and there’s a ton of them here that guys love. Im riding with a friend now with a 23’ xtrainer that he loves and I see a pile that guys been riding for years. There’s simple adjustments and mods that you do for any bike you ride. . Guys drill holes in the seat foam. Or get other seat foam . It’s Prep the wire connections. It’s basic prep of any brand new bike. Some yank the oi and run premix like the 300 race edition comes stock.. Put springs for your weight. Polisport has made aftermarket plastic for earlier xtrainers. Theyll make for the newest. Adjust the float bowl in the carb and gas mileage is way better or buy a big tank. Change tires. I mean it’s all simple basic stuff that you do to all bikes. Hey and there’s build Your Own Beta program to custom make your Beta if you like before you even get your bike or just buy a 300 race edition . I got 6 Betas since 09’. I don’t have broken plastics or wiring problems. Seat foam I changed and set up suspension for my weight and just do regular maintenance. . I have a 15’ 300 rr and an 09 525rs and a 12’ 350 race and a 22’ 200 rr and a 23’ 300 race. Ive been riding my friends 23’ xtrainer. The bike is great. Ive been riding a wide variety of Betas for years.
Yeah sure, if you replace half the parts you can make any bike into a good bike. The point is how much work you need to do on it to remove the defects , the golden standard being zero…
Raced my ‘24 in a hare scramble yesterday. Can confirm the suspension starts to show weaknesses in higher speed. But it did fairly well. As for the brakes, I have zero issues locking front or back on command. Great informative videos Aaron!
I’m wondering as I read these comments if most people understand the difference between the xtrainer and the 300rr,Sherco,KTM platforms the only bike I can put on par with it is the Rieju Ranger I believe it is. The machine is a 7/8 ths size has a detuned 300cc 2T motor which can easily be turned into a full blown fire breather just add a fatty pipe or rr pipe remove the xtra plate in the expansion plate on the power valve and jet the carb and viola fire breather. The suspension is a trail bike soft suspension yes it’s not great but compare it to Honda, yamaha, Kawasaki trail bike street legal machines and well it’s just better imho. It’s 220 lbs wet I believe and with the seat concept low seat it’s 34” I believe not positive and a price tag that’s pretty inflation friendly as 300 2T go. And the grunt in the motor is 🤩
It's really unfair to compare a 7/8k€ bike with the KTMs that cost 3/4k more Plus this is supposed to be a beginners enduro bike. The RRs will solve most of the problems stated here with the Xtrainer
@@AaronsEnduro I see no problem on showing that it stays below those machines. But I would say that it needs clarification that it is a cheaper bike and it’s supposed to be for more inexperienced riders. The Xtrainer is in a classe of its own and that’s totally ok. I think for the price it’s still a very good package for those starting even with the problems it has when compared with the >10k machines
@ricardoneto13 its funny you mention pricing, we bought a 2023 husky te300 2 stroke the month prior for my dad. Then i bought my 23 beta x trainer the following month (June) After all said n done, his bike cost him 300$ more, and they gave him a 1500$ incentive for free husky branded parts lol. Now after 6 months of ownership and putting the equivalent protection mods on each bike, the beta has been more expensive overall lol
@@AaronsEnduro i was comparing in EU(Portugal) prices Here the Xtrainer costs 8k and any KTM/Husqy will cost us more than 11k 😬😬 It’s quite a difference
I have a '21 XT and agree with all that you've said ... I'm glad you didn't dis the oil injection as I've used that for the 200 hours I have on my bike and it's great. Also, AMP has done my suspension and Aaron is truly helpful and cost conscious ... as well as an expert on our issues. I also don't understand why we can't get an aftermarket plastic company to step in and make higher quality plastic for our bikes, at least the shrouds ... thin and brittle ... and cheaper doesn't make me feel any better. Keep up the great work.
Great vid! I too am an xtrainer driver and about 50% of the terrain I ride looks like what you show here. Fuel mileage: Hilarious and true! BTW, I just had the head shaved for a bit more compression. Made a huge difference on 2nd gear lugging. Brakes: Not at all what I've experienced on other bikes, but no complaints. Suspension (I'm 200 lbs): Had to install heavier springs. Still a bit dicey at speed, but fine for the tight stuff. No jumping for this guy! Seat: Like fricking graham cracker wrapper! Went to the Enjoy Beta ribbed seat cover. Excellent quality! Electronics: Have been having issues, especially on the speedo. Thanks for the tips! Oil injection: Installed the injection delete kit the first week. Can't trust any of it. Plastics: On target! They suck! Must say though, the bike is a hoot! Hoping the engine and and transmission prove reliable!
I think that fall would have torn any seat cover. Just an unlucky moment. Beta seats do suck though. I went with seat concepts on my 200rr and it's awesome
@@AaronsEnduro I went with a Guts foam + cover on my stock 2023 200RR seat pan. Not sure about X-Trainer. It's better than stock but can't compare to Seat Concepts which are usually very good. Guts is MUCH less $$$.
Nissan is fine . No efi is great. So what about has. There’s really no need to whine much. Find another bike. Get another bike. Get another’s seat… yank your efi. I did.
In regards to the plastic breaking…there’s a fix people do in the RC car world where they use drywall tape and shoe goo on the underside of the body (or E6000) and it makes them stronger and less prone to breaking. Might be something to try here, can’t hurt right? Haha.
I think it’s important to remember the xtrainer is a 300 but it’s a trail bike not a full blown enduro or racer yes the seat sucks, the suspension is fine for trail riding and a bit more the electronics are not great on a lot of newer machines but an easy fix if you’re proactive. The gas tank is quite literally a thimble and the 23/24 is bigger than mine. The brakes I have no problem with idk why yours aren’t that great . I spend as much time horizontal as vertical so I beat the thing pretty good body wise I haven’t had to many issues other than lights overall I will take the five shity issues 😎for the $7900 I paid for it😁
The electrical definitely sucks. I am one of those people that had corrosion issues. Everything else is just nit-picking...It's pretty darn good for the price and when used for its intended purpose which is low speed enduro.
I own X trainer 300 2023, and your explanation totally true. body set super easily broken, the suspension and shock quite twitchy when ride fast in enduro single track. I am still struggling how to set up the comp and rebound 🙄
I added 4 clicks stiffer of rebound to the rear shock, and two clicks stiffer for front compression and that seems to help from stock a bunch. Ive yet to play with rear compression or front rebound, but its next on the to do list
Its definitely worth testing your clickers! Make one adjustment on one clicker at a time and see if its better or worst and then you can try clicking it in the opposite directions
Nice! Originally started watching cause I have a 140g that im planning to swap for an mx bike next year but your vids making me want to get another trail/enduro
It all depends what you ride! If you take an MX bike to a hard enduro trail its gonna be kinda miserable lol And same vice versa, take a enduro bike to the racetrack and itll be “aight”
@@AaronsEnduro Thats for sure! I gotta admit I really enjoy enduro but I also want to ride a good mix of both -- thinking about a yz125x or something but its more expensive than just a normal yz125 or like a ktm 200xcw so guess I will just make that choice after I sell my bike
Is the fuel issue bad when compated to other carbs or just EFI? I'm torn between this or the 200rr. I'm also. Good bit heavier than a normal rider (closer to 90 kg).
@@AaronsEnduro The Rieju Ranger models are aimed at the same market as the XTrainer. Based on other vid-Reviews they might be more towards “proper” enduro but they are definitely marketed towards new riders or guys who just want a trail bike.
Bad brakes? Had 4 betas with Nissin brakes and way better than ktm/husky brembos! Would say too good with original/galfer pads? Suspension yeap. It is entry level or hobby suspension. If looking "real racing" bike go with basic rr or direct to rr racing model.
all 2 strokes are gas thirsty. but, TPI/TBI does help a lot with the MPG. My old KLX 230 can ride all day on a tank and never had the gas light come on, but my 250 xc has a much bigger tank and I find myself refilling sometimes.
All similar issues with my 2017 Beta Xtrainer. But the Stock suspension is made by a company called Olle. They are barely any better than trials type forks (pogo stick). Ohlins, Sachs, MX Tech Lucky fork insert, basically anything would be superior to the stock suspensions. The rear shock is not horrible, but there a batter dampers out there as well. Expect to spend about $1000-2000 for better suspension. I have a GIANT beef with the BYO build your own Beta options. They charge retail for upgraded suspension, but you d not get to keep the OE suspension. Beta USA double dips on the component cost, although they do the installation. I went with fork tuning and springs before finally I gave up and got the MX tech insert for the fork and it basically transformed the bike at higher trail speeds. I have the Beta Race chock too. Nice upgrade but $$$$. There's no reason to spend the money unless you plan on keeping the bike for many years. I would say that for riders who have inseam challenges this may be the right bike for them, even though it will cost more than a300RR or KTM, it's a smaller lower bike that can be made into a fantastic trail bike.
Are you putting the peacock in reserve when the tank is full? Beta has a long intake into the tank. It will run out of gas in the on position with only a half tank, most Beta riders put it straight into reserve.
I found the forks too soft while simultaneously being very deflective if you ride a lot of rocks. I know have 45mm Marzocchis and a Fox shock. Also try the Suzuki NECW needle.
@@AaronsEnduro got the needle from Rocky Mountain, I can grab the part number later. It has a different taper than the stock needle. I installed the JD Jet Kit first which has its own needles but then tried the NECJ which I found a Lil lean so I went up to the NECW. I running 162 main, 40 pilot, & fmf fatty at about 1000ft elevation.
Did you blue plate your Xtrainer (Ontario). I got a deposit on a brand new dealer 300 Xtrainer and I want to blue plate it. Any suggestions on how I can go about it? Thanks for the videos.
In bc it has a “motorcycle plate / MC” Which is the street legal plate for BC The blue plate here is the offroad only plate. To get it registered as the street legal license plate all you have to do is make take your brand new x trainer to your local insurance hub and ask for street plates for it. In BC anyways so long as the title of the registration says “open” and not “OHV” Then its up to the purchaser to then get it registered as an “MC” or “OHV” If registered as an MC and it has “no restrictions” on your registration paperwork, youll be good to go. My local insurance broker is across the street from the beta dealer so they were used to getting new betas registered all the time. Something else to note is when at the insurance broker it’s important (because BETA) is not a “make/model” in the system. they then have to create a “new profile” to give you custom “make/model” for the registration paperwork. Some brokers are too dumb to know this and will say they cant insure it. But this is what they had to do here in BC anyways for me to register it and the lady at my desk got stumped with trying to be to register it, but the higher up member was like “for betas we gotta make a custom make and model”
Love my Xtrainer. It’s uniquely different from other bikes and that’s why I bought it. I find it funny when people don’t like it for what sets it apart. If you want a race bike, buy a race bike.
Thanks for the video Aaron. I’m looking to get my first bike and I’m between the 200rr and the xtrainer. I like the low seat height of the xtrainer but I like the lower cc’s on the 200. I think a 2t 300cc is too much for me. I’m short guy 5’6 at 155lbs. Will be riding the east cost new england area so probably a lot of rocks and obstacles and hills. I would love to hear your opinion on this. Thanks! Ah, almost forgot, Im also considering a used 2013 ktm 200cc xcw too
The 300 “sounds” intimidating compared to the 200rr. But i garuntee the 200rr will be a much peakier power band, and less luggable. The 200rr is better suited for aggressive riding. The x trainer is better suited to slower riding in technical terrain. When you put the x trainer in the wet map mode (in combination with the stock expansion chamber exhaust) the power is very tammed and not intimidated at all. Trust me i was in the same boat with getting my first 2 stroke
@@arlokkkk x trainer is a completely different type of riding style bike. Ive ridden both the 23xcw and 23 te300, those two bikes are overall better than an x trainer. That being said the x trainer is way easier to ride, much less tiring, more manoeuvrable, lighter, smaller overall size, lower seat height, ultra linear tractable power, and super predictable. There really is no comparison for an x trainer and its truly in its own class. The x trainer is a trials enduro hybrid compared to the Austrian bikes being an enduro/gncc bike. Two different bikes for two different riders, riding styles, and terrains
Bro you gotta check out the sherco 300 ser, takes care of all them issues, plus still carbureted. Not saying it's perfect but it competes with the KTMs
Honestly have never look at the shercos before. I just really love the look of the BETA. Although now ive fixed most of my issues with the beta and i really enjoy it!
@@AaronsEnduro yeah you gotta sweet setup and I'm sure its a blast to ride, you know the rule: cheat on your girl before you cheat on your bike! 😜 Love the content, stay safe 🤙
@@AaronsEnduro Compared to the beta, Height and Weight. Im 5"7 155 lbs so I had to put a lowering link on it and it throws off the ergonomics a little bit, other then that it comes very rich from the manufacturer so needs jetting or smart carb, the clutch is also very heavy, and the kickstand is crap, but performance wise its great, comfortable seat, amazing suspension and brakes, and the mapping is better than any other bike that I've rode which is just the Austrian ones
@freetaylor72 , "brakes". I have a 2022 XT and agree with most who find them grabby. The rear pedal was too high, but you can adjust the nuts where it pivots to lower it.
Great informative video. That rear brake is just plain hokey. Figure every enduro or dual sport you buy will need the suspension modded. They are all too soft for anyone over 130 lbs. If you are an aggressive rider plan on springs and valving for sure. Soft engine performance from the factory can also dog enduro bikes. In many instances setting up an MX bike for enduro will result in a bike that rules the woods for an experienced rider. I am currently riding a KTM 300 EXC (carbed) and it is as reliable as a sledgehammer. I had the soft stock suspension recalibrated by Factory Connection for my fully geared up weight of 190 lbs. l love it. As for those electrical connections on your Beta, that is completely unacceptable.
Where are you pricing those Husky radiator shrouds at? I have a 2023 KTM SX-F 350 and I just got a new pair of orange shrouds from AOMC for $69.00. And for the record, the KTM shrouds are definitely very well made and bullet proof. I smashed mine into a tree and bent my OEM almost 90 degrees and not only did it NOT break, it went back into shape like it never happened. I thought for sure it was shot. Point being, the Austrian bike shrouds aren't that expensive.
@@AaronsEnduro Holy crap are they ripping people off!!! Motosport, Rocky Mountain ATV MC, Revzilla.....they all sell the KTM, Husky and GasGas plastics. Whether it's OEM from KTM or plastics made by UFO (which is what mine are) or Acerbis, all are the same price. Tell your local dealer to "stick it"! hahahahaha J/K That really is crazy.
You gotta try a yz250 2 stroke and see if you have any complaints . I've got zero complaints about my bike but I don't ride nearly as much nor do I ride the terrain you do. Maybe try to look for a yz250x
@@AaronsEnduro the newer 250x have electric start I thought but idk the price difference or anything else. You shred that 300 tho maaaaaaaan the terrain you ride on is super epic. I probably could only keep up half the time. Your beast with all bikes tho😃🥂🤙⚡ sorry I babble so much.
The suspension sucks! Easy fix, send the fork to AMP and get a new spring for the rear. Under $1000 and you are good to go. I think the brakes are good. You have to switch the petcock to reserve early because of how far it goes up into the tank. they dump fuel when you lay it down. Hard seat, whatever, stand up. Great bike overall.
You need to ride with your petcock on reserve , not in the ON position. You will run through your gas super fast if you ride with it in the " ON " position. Another good idea is to install the oil tank delete kit.
To me that is the very definition of trainer, less quality equipment so when you get on a good bike you will be that much better but I do understand what you're saying!!
I think you used a picture of my father in laws brake pedal in this? NESRCC Custom Components also i have after market plastics polisports on my 2016 much more flexible
Yeah the 24 has the larger seat but it's still small obviously. How do you find the bike overall? I'm looking at a 24 model but this video and the comments now has me worried 😟. Should go a different brand?
@@ANTICARBONTAX , I bought a new 2022 last year and love it. Things get nick-picked to death on the Inter-Web. Fuel mileage is average for a 2 stroke, build quality is great, they are light and fast, dealers are supportive. Yes, the seat sucks but aftermarkets are on eBay for reasonable, the rear brake pedal adjusts, suspension is ok as these are not race bikes . . . and I got mine titled and plated. Went with a 15T front and can get around town and to close trails much better and can cruise on the road at 55-60.
@AaronsEnduro Thanks so much for replying bro. So would you suggest me 94kgs and 6ft to just go the RR?? Or is it worth going the x trainer and upgrading the suspension?
Well at 94kg the x trainer will need a few thousand $ in suspension so i don’t recommend that unless you really want the smaller frame size. As for the 300rr vs husky te300 vs ktm xcw it all comes to personal preference, they’re all great bikes. Just different flavours of the same thing
I never got along with suspension and handling....motor was good! Due to the extremely crappy suspension and short wheel base, had a hard time keeping it on the trail. In tight turns the front wheel would unload too much too quickly, it'd blow through....anything on the throttle. Very slow speeds, it's fine. Here's what I don't get, why Beta refuses to put a good suspension package out of the crate...is beyond me. Beta would sell a lot more xt if they did.
The suspension is how Beta keeps the price (and weight) down. If they put good suspension on it it would cost the same as a 300RR. I never liked the suspension on mine but I was able to adjust to it. I hated the electrical more which is why I eventually sold and went back to a KTM. Too bad Beta doesn't make a race harness for it I would consider another one if the electrical was decent.
You’re so full of crap. Nothing is wrong with this bike at all. You can order everything you need from Beta when you buy. All of it is available. Nissan is excellent. Seat concepts has seats. You can buy a plastics. There’s nothing wrong with this bike at all. Buy a big tank.
@@AaronsEnduro Yeah, I hear ya. Let me explain my comment. I got a Fantic ( an Italian brand) which actually is a Yamaha WR 250f with arrow exhaust, GET ECU, race seat, different plastics and a few upgrades, Tweeks and touches. However it's not the WR it used to be. It is now very motocross related and race oriented which I'm struggling with as I ride very slow, steep, rocky, rough terrain and I have since realized 300 or even 200 2stroke would suit me much better.
@@AaronsEnduro They do have a 300, 2 stroke on a YZ frame. Not sure what engine though. I might be old fashioned in my thinking, but I just have more confidence in Japanese reliability over the European brands.
