In this video, I make a compelling case for purchasing the Seiko Turtle Seiko SRP777 over the new Seiko Willard Seiko SPB151 using 5 Metrics 1. Quality 2. Heritage 3. Strap Monsterism 4. Diving Capabilities 5. Value & Availability

Love the Turtle, only wish the new Willard had the day included. I see them here in Tokyo and they are beautiful, fell in love with a blue one actually but no day so I will continue to love the Turtle at half the price. Nice video.
I just bought a SRPE93 for xmas.(since its a xmas gift it had to go under the tree.) I did check it for alignment and it's great! It's also perfect for my 7.5inch wrist, which I knew it would be 😉😂
My story is similar to yours, I bought an SKX and never liked it. Bought an SRP777 and I love it. I have since modded the hell out of it and can easily say I will never flip it. Good vid mate. P.S. bought a Willard when they reissued and love it too, but the Turtle wins wrist time hands down.
i have an srp777 only to scratch my ich of wanting a willard. I did end up falling in love with it, but if i had the money, i would most certainly get the spb151. I live in brazil, and due to import taxes, it is ridiculously expensive. It gets to around 11k reais = 2.075,00 dolars >:(
The SRP and 6309 have differences in the same way the SPB vs 6105 primarily in case shape, so rather than a copy would you not think the SRP is also a re-imagining?
I have both of them …. Both are savage , I also picked up a fantastic Mwc 500m sub GMT .. but seriously Seiko turtle 🐢 is an excellent 👌 watch… Willard on strap is lighter more comfortable
Turtle esp the king turtle is a step up. Tbh buying replicas of the original SLA is a bit off putting and sad. I was about to fall into that category, but just love my king turtle, looks great and has its own style to it.
In my opinion the turtle wins hands down! The new slim turtle or Willard is going to be a Shelfer! A sitter, a non moving item, compared to the turtle! Just way over priced. If Seiko lowers it to 600-700.00, then it’s a deal, other than that, I’m sticking with the turtle! Matt
I agree. The value of W is square shaped dial, slim hands and step out part on the shape near crown. All that make me as owner of SRPE93 and Padi version (subjectively) ready for 700 +/- for black dial W version, but not 1K. For that would be better stretch to higher model range. Or two pieces of SBDC 😂
Same here, sold my SKX007, after I got my SRP779, it didn’t get much wrist time anymore, and accuracy on the Turtle was far better. In the mean while, I sold the 779 and bought an SRPC25, and a JDM Sumo. Fantastic watches.
Hi Jose, thanks for your comment. since this video, I have bought a 6309 and a 6105. I agree, the 6105 is the pick of the 2. My most recent video looks at the 6309
I own a king turtle and the willard. If someone is considering a willard I would say have a good look at the king turtle. Retail, it's half the price of the willard and will scratch that itch. The price of the mid tier Seikos just aren't worth the money with the movements they put in them.
I have a SRPC23, which is the 777 with a sunburst dial. I like this everyday watch a lot but I feel that it is too big and chunky compared to the 6309. Why on earth did they have to enlarge it? I bought a Steeldive, which is an "hommage" to the 6105 Willard, for a fraction of the price of a SPB51. I am very pleased with it and the size is so much coherent. With the Seiko turtle, I feel like having my Panerai on the wrist, except that the Pannies were made to be huge watches. Not the Seikos.
I’m not sure why they increased the size. I also own a Sam Martin 6105 homage and yes I agree it definitely wears neater on the wrist. I don’t mind the turtle size though as it is a diver and the reasonable lug to lug means there’s no overhang. I remember searching forums before buying though to see what people thought of the size and if it wore big or not. I think the srpc23 is a beautiful watch.
@@WonderofWatches The funny thing when I bought the Steeldive, I thought it was going to be huge. And it is not. The dial is quite normal, regular size, and the watch is only looking big because of the cushion shape of the case.Very wearable on a regular size wrist. And the quality is impressive for a 160€ watch.
@@vikos78 Alibaba man, why would you buy it somewhere else? You like to donate your money to the “middle man”? On Alibaba.com you buy STRAIGHT from the factory.
Great review 👍. The new Willard also adds DiaShield coating to protect the finish on the stainless steel from scratches. It’s very effective. But the downside is that if you do manage a scratch you can’t refinish the brushing or polishing in the normal way... I love my save the ocean Turtle 😎. If I got a Willard 6105 it will probably be a Heimdallr homage.
I didnt know that about the dia shield. I have a San Martin 6105 homage, its bronze but I think its excellent, they do a stainless steel version too. Now I imagine they are all coming from the same factory anyway. Thanks for you comment Craig, Ben.
@@WonderofWatches According to one watchmaker the movements in those are also fake. Very good but under magnification they are seen to be rougher than the gen Seikos. I got a Heimdallr turtle which leaked and I had to jump through hoops to get new gaskets which never materialized I also found the machining of the threads etc to be rough. I should have saved the 300 USD towards a nice King Turtle or Willard reissue.
Yes, I think you are probably right. The San Martin is really great and I understand it uses a real seiko nh35 but you may be right. I find the action on the crown to be good and everything feels right but I have never examined the movement. However, these homages will never satisfy if its the real thing that you really want. My issue with this reimagination is that it takes too many departures from the original.
@@Leec_1972 The movements are real Seiko movements. They are actually very cheap when bought in big quantities, so why bother faking them? I think your watchmaker is not happy with the rising popularity of Chinese watches.
@@e28forever30 I know they are cheap but nonetheless there are unauthorized copies all over the place. I guess its even cheaper for the Chinese manufacturers just to make a million copies than to order them and possibly wait for delivery. There are a myriad potential reasons. I really don't know why but according to watchmakers and experienced modders the copies exist and and are prolific in the Chinese manufacturers watches and under a loupe the unauthorized copies are definitely not as well finished although overall they are very very close. Oddly the genuine movements are also made in China as well as other places. I was told a long time ago that it is a thing there to set up clone factories that mimic the authorized ones and make copies of all kinds of products far cheaper and where quality control is quite lax.
I agree plus the 6R movement in the new Willard is not as proven or accurate as the 4R movement. Had to regulate my 6R as the Seiko factory in china could not be bothered. Once I opened the case I observed "Case Made IN CHINA" on the inside case back. Buyer beware.
Willard > Turtle. Once you’ve experienced a misaligned bezel and the poor quality bezel grip you understand that the turtle isn’t worth it at any price. The thinner / smaller willard has much more history, better qc, and better dimensions. 1 willard for 3 turtles? Yes please
@@a_single_white_female Dive watches are now more jewellery than tools, with modern dive computers from suunto / garmin making them functionally obsolete. Poor quality control is inexcusable at any price point
Misaligned bezels have been reported on the Willard, and even a couple of RU-vid reviewers showed this on their review models. At 12 to 1500 usd, it is inexcusable.
