DELPHINE DESCENDS
After her family is killed and her homeworld occupied, young Kathreen Martin is sent to the distant world of Furoris for re-education. She will live the rest of her life as a serf - to be bought and sold as a commodity of the Imperial Network.
When her only chance of escape is ruined, a chance mistaken identity offers her a new life as the orphaned daughter of a First-Citizen Senator and heiress to a vast fortune.
She vows to claw her way into power to sit among the worlds’ elite. Then, with her own hands, she will reap bloody vengeance on them all.
But to beat them, she must play their game. And she must play it better than them all.
BLACK MILK
Prometheus has the chance to bring his wife back from the dead, but doing so will mean the destruction of Earth.
Spanning time, planets and dimensions, Black Milk draws to a climactic point in a post-apocalyptic future, where humanity, stranded with no planet to call home, fights to survive against a post-human digital entity that pursues them through the depths of space.
Five lives separated by aeons are inextricably linked by Prometheus’s actions:
Ystil.3 is an AI unit sent back in time from the distant future to investigate Prometheus’s discovery...
The mysterious Lydia has devoted her life to finding a planet that the last remaining humans can call home…
Tom Jones (he’s a HUGE fan!) is an AI trapped inside a digital subspace, lost and desperate to find his way back to his beloved in real-time…
Dr Norma Stanwyck is a neuroscientist from 24th Century Earth whose personal choices ripple throughout time...
Prometheus must learn the necessity of death or the entire universe will be swallowed by his grief.

Yeah they're excellent. But if you haven't read them, don't expect never ending action and amazing quests to kill monsters and get awesome swords, it's all about the characters and love and war, it's not the classic good vs bad in fantasy, it's more like the story of Geralt and the people he comes to love.

The suspense, though, when waiting for Gearlt or ciri to fight is hype. You're heart races because you know shits gonna get bad-ass and crazy; most of the time, anyway.

God I loved this series. It's one that'll age incredibly well and, hopefully, go down as a cornerstone of modern fantasy.

I LOVE THE BOOKS! And it’s because of the book series that the games and the TV series even exists.

I did it. I ordered the complete saga online. I loved the witcher 3 video game and even though I knew I was missing a lot of plot, the implications of deep political conflict, coupled with how Geralt interacted with many of the characters interested me so much. I'm going to read the whole saga and then take my time to breathe in the witcher 3 and all of its dlc, which I never played when it came out. Can't wait.

I, too, was introduced to Geralt & Co. through The Witcher 3. I instantly liked the character, even without yet knowing there is a series of books (yes, I've lived under a rock for a long time). It took me a while (too long) to get started on the books, but I'm loving them. I'm only on The Blood of Elves, but plan to devour the rest. When the next-gen update for consoles was released, it motivated me to finish the Blood and Wine DLC, then immediately watch cutscenes and important bits of gameplay from the first 2 games. All this made me start a New Game +, and even though I'm barely into Act 3, I've already spent more quality hours this time around than during my initial playthrough. Now that I know the characters better, it makes the game much more enjoyable to me. Even though they came first, the books are very thick icing on an already delicious cake, just waiting for me to dig in. And I'm sure after reading them, I'll want to complete the game for a 3rd time.

@@Quazi-moto I'm on the Blood of Elves right now too, after having read the two short story books. Will say that the friendship between Dandelion and Geralt is portrayed so lovingly. I love the level of detail that goes into showing how regular folk really don't understand the nature of a witcher.

Andrzej Sapkowski’s story won him 3rd place in a writing competition in the 80’s. His books are amazing. So I wonder what stories that could’ve been better than The Witcher, to win 1st and 2nd.
@PrzemN
@PrzemN 2 года назад
Well, I still remember even the cover of the magazine that it was printed first time, being 13 at the time it was published ( I think 1-2 years after the competition? ). I was absolutely blown away by the story and the character of witcher. I had to google all the winners now and I did remember first prize, being a very "serious" story about what it means to be a human, rather strange as I recall. Sapkowski didn't get even 3rd prize btw, he only got "honourable mention" and publication. For me and friends at that time it was crazy that such a great story didn't won. Funny times .... :)

I'm on to Blood of Elves, I am extremely hooked, I were interested in the games first and they pushed my into reading The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. Geralt's introspective nature really sticks with me, I always find myself at least agreeing with some of his introspective quotes because the resonate with my morality, it is perfectly summed up in the quote from Blood of Elves "To be neutral, doesn't meant to be indifferent or insensitive. It is enough to kill your hatred. Not your emotions."

The thing I really like about them so far is they are written in such a way where you get lots of lore and woeldbuilding without paragraphs of author exposition. So far it seems that most of the story is well written conversations and dialog. And the characters talking are always colorful and interesting so it's not a slog to get through. You genuinely want to see where these conversations go and what they lead to.

Season of Storms should be last actually. It was written after all the others and doesn't really flow with the rest. Chronologically that's when the action takes place, but I don't think it should be read like this, particularly since I consider it much weaker than all the other books.

@@Kitsune-dono I would imagine because sometimes a true translation isn't possible but not to the extent that the story is affected. I read the books in English and they are still excellent. I think the OP is just showing off their ability to read Polish.
@meanpersona4686
@meanpersona4686 3 месяца назад
@@blueskysummit6153 I read them both in Polish and English. It's not that they're better or worse, but english version has a lot of small mistakes, but also there are some words in polish that don't have a proper translations. It's hard to explain, but I think the way things are worded are "poorer" I guess? It feels sometimes like whoever translated it just chose the first word they found in the dictionary and didn't think much of it. It doesn't hurt the story really, the most important things are said, but I guess the translation lacks certain "colour".

@@Kitsune-donoI Think it’s because Polish version uses a lot of archaisms and dialects. You can guess a character's social class just by the way they speak. I believe it’s hard to translate

I'm sure some of the oomph was lost in translation. After all, they aren't the author's own words. I've heard more than a few people say it's much better in its native tongue. But who can be arsed with learning a new language just to read a series of books?
@basementmadetapes
@basementmadetapes 7 месяцев назад
@@Quazi-moto maybe. But I’ve read translations of all kinds and I never been so disappointed as I was w the Witcher
@meanpersona4686
@meanpersona4686 3 месяца назад
@@basementmadetapes it's true! The english translation is nutoriously devoid of "colour", it's like whoever translated it just got the dictionary and chose the first matching word, without any creativity. It also has a lots of small mistranslations and mistakes. I read both Polish and English versions and the english one is kinda flat. Maybe it's the difference in a fact that slavic and germanic languages are largery different, beacause I heard that translations in other slavic languages are pretty good.
