Thank you so much for making this video. It’s very helpful. I’m an American photographer planning a trip to Norway during the winter months and you’ve given me a lot to think about.

As another photographer from the U.S., I will tell you Norway and Lofoten is one of my favorite places for photography by far. There is just so much there it's just a bit spread out, make sure to give yourself time or isolate yourself to a specific region.

Hey. Norwegian analog landscape photographer here, trying to see if RU-vid is a good idea. Lofoten is not my usual area, but I have obviously been there some times. Lovely location and as you say rather unexplored in some areas. Another, maybe more unexplored area in the north would be Vesterålen and Andøya. Nice images at the end there, thanks for sharing.

thanks for watching! be sure to have some sort of wind breaker since its coastal that can add to the cold temps for sure. also removable spikes are nice for hiking etc depending on your itinerary.

How was the ferry? I'm terrified of deep water, and I've heard that it can be very choppy. I would prefer it for the experience, but I am also worried about panicking if it's really rough.
@graham_white
@graham_white Год назад
The ferry is loaded down with vehicles and it’s pretty large so it may be a little choppy/wobbly at times but it never throws you around or gets violent. The size keeps it very manageable

Hi, I Just wanted to ask which Month you travelled to Lofoten. You say it's winter of course. If I would have to guess, I would say it's February?

THanks this is very helpful. Does it rain/snow a lot in Late October/early November? Any idea?

glad to hear it! In general its a small island so rain and snow from my experience are common and can be a bit unpredictable.

Does Reinerbringen open during the winter? I’ve been there during summer and really love it. I wish I could be there again if they open during winter.

Last time I checked I believe so, it so better to go early or late and not dead if winter to avoid bad weather and be able to navigate more

Hi may I know which month of winter you travelled to the island ? Plan to go in late nov but the short daylight is a big challenge

Being a Floridian how do you withstand that much cold? Personally I freeze over at 30 degrees Fahrenheit 🥶 Have to be honest I’ve never heard of this place but now find it very interesting
@graham_white
@graham_white 4 года назад
well I kinda look like a viking... so maybe that has something to do with it? I much prefer the cold over the South Florida heat. Definitely check it out if you can, Norway is awesome in general but this place is special.

Does Lofoten really looks like that in winter? I mean, I though there was no light, I am planning to go there in December :)
@graham_white
@graham_white 4 года назад
haha, It does! However, I went in February/March. December is the darkest month so you wont have much time at all in the daylight.
@jonasstrmmen1328

Yeah, we don't have much daylight during december :) But if we get snow in december, you will get good lighting conditions mid day.

@@graham_white A couple of hours is all you need ;) But, honestly... I am not much outside during the winter... I'm more like a bear... Hibernating in the winter months :D But when spring comes, I take out my camera gear and go for some photo hikes. I know of some great and lesser known spots in the area (Lofoten), and I'll gladly share :)

Hi, they don’t suggest me to go At the beginning of January because of the weather.what do you think?
@graham_white
@graham_white 2 года назад
weather changes year to year plus January is probably one of the least desirable months to go do to extreme weather, but again it depends on what your wanting to do while there. If your getting local information I would go with what they are saying.

Hi! I am planning a trip to North of Norway in November? Would the weather be ok and would the light be ok?
@graham_white
@graham_white 3 года назад
You would have to look up the current weather to know for sure, but November can be a great time to visit yes. The days are shorter but Northern lights have higher chances.
@guidetonorway
@guidetonorway 2 года назад
October- January is very much low season in Lofoten because of typical bad weather. It's dark yes, but you need clear skies to see the aurora and therefore the more stable February-March is the high season for aurora watching. But as a photographer I think October and November can be some of the most exciting times of the year! How was your trip in November, Shreyansh? :)

@Dreams of you I did a hike at about 3am once. Longer days and being so far north allows to take full advantage of your time there no matter what time of day.

Lofoten is unbelivable. The landscapes are awesome, althoug I prefer Iceland. The only cons is the price of things in there. Since their country has a good lifestyle and wealth, stuff are pretty expensive.
@graham_white
@graham_white 4 года назад
Agreed, price is definitely a hindrance, but Iceland isn't exactly cheap either, except of course flying there is much easier. I think they each have very different thinks to offer. I have been to both places twice and I'm torn, Can't say I prefer one over the other.
@miguelarbrito

@Graham White, I see you like landscapes. You should check Portugal. I like Gerês, Serra da Estrela, Arouca ( Passadiços do Paiva). These areas are located North of the country. 👍
@graham_white
@graham_white 4 года назад
@@miguelarbrito Love Landscapes. I have actually been to Portugal before! far to brief though and about 6 years ago. Spent just two days in Lisbon and saw Sintra while I was there. If/when I make it back I will definitely put those at the top of my list, much appreciated Miguel.

Hi! Can I rent a car in Lofoten? Or just in bodo and travel with the car in the ferry to the islands?
@graham_white
@graham_white 2 года назад
You can do either. Although I’m not sure the rental situation since covid, I’m sure supply is smaller. We rented in lofoten which I would think is cheaper than ferry but could be wrong
