Rohit and Neel describe the reasons they wanted to go into management consulting and what they hope to get out of it. They also talk about reasons why other people wanted to go into consulting that that are different from their own. Toward the end, they give valuable advice that will help you during ALL of the following: during case prep, interviews, and even when you actually become a consultant (or even if you choose something else)!

Excellent, excellent, excellent video Neel and Rohit! Content wise, the topic of social impact/pro bono consulting resonated with me the most I felt. The one aspect you two really shined at so to speak, from my point of view at least, is the topic of having lots of authenticity. Also boys, I don't want to jinx things or anything like that but it seems to me that if nothing else then you at least got each others as authentic friends. Like what I mean is, you two seem to recognise and in your heart informally know that you'd still believe in each other regardless of whether or not you've gone to a quote unquote target school, have a big brand name graduate recruiter on your CV and/or formally classed as being rich, powerful plus successful let's say. Sorry, this is a sensitive subject to me but I mean well, I hope that this brotherhood of yours stays strong Neel and Rohit! Raza =)

Thanks Raza! We definitely hope we come off as authentic and ourselves, especially because we feel other consulting resources are a bit to professional (and maybe boring haha). And so we're glad you think so And you're totally right Raza, we do have a special friendship and one in which we believe in each other, regardless of accolades or external factors. Definitely not need for you to apologize, no topic is too sensitive for us. I hope you have a good end to your 2020!

Hey! I’ve been an avid watcher and subscriber, I wanted to ask if your answer structure would be the same if the question about what attracted you to consulting, was in an interview. Would you list all your reasons out briefly first then go into detail or do it like how you have here? Hope that makes sense, thank you !
@neelandrohit6490
@neelandrohit6490 3 года назад
Hey DR! It's awesome to hear you're an avid watcher and subscriber - we really appreciate it! And to answer your question - it's largely a yes. I'm pretty sure I covered many of the points I brought up in the video during my actual interviews, but I probably did a bit more story-telling - similar to the story I told in my "My Story" video, where I would go into detail about my engineering background and learnings from that, and then tie those learnings to why consulting makes sense for me. Maybe it might be helpful to make a video where I answer various common questions asked during the consulting interview process (like "Why Consulting," "Why this firm," "Why this location," etc.)

Is there any benefit to having a background in Supply Chain or Operations Management when going into consulting?
@neelandrohit6490
@neelandrohit6490 3 года назад
Hey Maya - good question! To be honest, it completely depends on the type of consulting. I'd imagine that may help if applying for a firm that specializes in supply chain / operations work. But from our experience applying for the Big 3, they don't really put too much preference any an major. They really just want to see someone's really smart and coachable.

@@neelandrohit6490 i also have a same question as a maya many professors told me that industrial engineering is best for consulting
@neelandrohit6490
@neelandrohit6490 3 года назад
@@nidhidholakiya261 It's so hard to tell because that would depend on so many factors (e.g. which region of the world you are in, what university you are at, the relationships that your university has with these firms, etc.) - all things that Rohit and I just don't know. But rest assured, I'm confident your shot to get into these firms is probably equivalent whether you major in industrial engineering or not. I think things like your GPA, experiences, and those sorts of things will matter just as much, if not a lot more, as your major Again - just our take, and could totally be wrong. But best of luck!
