In order to comprehend the disjunction between Nigeria’s IGBO community and European Jews, one must delve into the intricacies of colorism. For instance, let us consider how an individual becomes a member of the Jewish community, either by birth or through conversion. It is evident that colorism plays a pivotal role in this process. The conversion to Judaism and subsequent acceptance thereof is ostensibly less complex for individuals of Caucasian descent as opposed to their black counterparts. Numerous instances exist wherein black individuals have been met with incredulity upon their visitation to synagogues, exemplifying this disparity. Personally, residing in Crown Heights, a prominent Jewish enclave within Brooklyn, New York, has afforded me an intimate understanding of the aforementioned subject matter. Regrettably, this disconnection stems not solely from cultural dissimilarities, but also, regrettably, from racial elements.

I admire the work that this young Rabbi is doing in Africa and He is to be commended. However, he does not “see” his very Eurocentric, Ashke-normative bias. He thinks he is being true to Halacha but his narrative clearly excludes every African Jew he is there to support. For example: The picture of a Beit Din of three Jew-ish men did not need to be nor should it have been a visual of three (very obviously) White European men. The message he is intent on bringing is clear: Authentic (Real) Jews are White Ashkenazi European Jews, which is absolutely not true. The sad part is that he doesn’t even listen to himself and what he is saying. But, I heard him…..and it infuriates me. Russian people have been received into the State of Israel…and religious communities…no questions asked…and come to find out they are not even Jews!! To date demographic data from Israel suggests there are at least, 10,000 such cases of Russians in Israel who are not Jews but said they were Jews just to get out of Russia. It gets better: Christians pretending to be Orthodox Jews have been admitted into and embraced into Israel’s religious communities (some as Rabbis!) without question….because they presented as White Ashkenazi Eastern European Jews. BTW - ONLY ASHKENAZI JEWS have divided themselves into denominations such as Conservative, Reform, Reconstructionist, Modern Orthodox, Traditional and there are so many more!! NO OTHER JEWISH GROUP DOES SUCH A THING!!Only Ashkenazi Jews do that!! It is only the norm in Ashkenazi communities. And they present it to the world as a Truth for all of Am Israel….That is simply not true!! Such dividers have no place for the rest of us….we respect the demarcations and limitations the Ashkenazi have placed on themselves in this regard, but we do not follow them. Please know that the beauty of Torah observance is not exclusive to “Orthodox” Ashkenazi Eastern European Jews. IMHO - He is teaching and presenting Jewry through a very narrow Ashkenazic lens which (by the Ashkenazi narrative) excludes other Jews (for a wide variety of reasons) and teaches non-European Jews just ‘why’ they are able to be excluded from Am Israel and why they always will be….while pretending to embrace them…keeping them just close enough to push them away. Such is not the Torah given to us by HaShem at Mt Sinai and brought down to us by Moshe. It would be so nice if this young Rabbi would at least broaden himself by learning from a Sephardic Rabbi so he can be more well-rounded. He doesn’t even know how limited he is staying inside the high walls of Ashkenazic Judaism. 😀✡️

@@TheNairobisher You are what your father is according to the most high. That's why Joseph's sons Manasseh and Ephraim were still considered israelites even though their mother is Egyptian. That's why most pedigrees in the scriptures only mentions the men. Bloodline comes from the men not the woman. Numbers 1:18 "And they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month, and they declared their pedigrees after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls.'
