Your comment about fear reminded me of an experience my homeschooled daughter had when she went to college. She called me one day and said, "Why is everyone so anxious and freaking out all the time over every little assignment?" I had to explain to her the fear associated with public schools. She thought it was completely bizarre. And just to show that fear isn't necessary, she earned an academic scholarship, won a writing award, and completed her degree in less than 4 years. No fear.

I was in public and private school until 3rd grade when my mom decided to quit her job and homeschool us...best thing to happen to me. Besides being able to eat whenever you want, one of the best parts was being able to advance in things we were good at and loved. By the time my brother and I went to college, we were at the top of our classes because we focused on those certain topics we went full force in. Great vid, guys!

I understand about the fear factor. When I started homeschooling my eldest son last year there was an incident that just about broke my heart. I give class to him and his sister at the same time because they are both in high school. We went over the work and I gave them an assignment. When the time was up I saw that my son didn't do it. When I asked him why, he told me he didn't understand. When I asked why he didn't ask me for help (I offered it at the beginning), he told me he didn't want to get laughed at. This confused me at first because he and his sister get along great. And she understands that he is learning disabled. I asked him who would laugh at him? And what broke my heart was the relief that suddenly came into his face when he realized that it was just him, his sister and me now. I can only imagine what he went through at school because it's common knowledge that kids with behavioral issues are put into special education even though they are not learning disabled. Now he doesn't hesitate to ask for help when he needs it.

I'm homeschooling my son after being in traditional public school up to 3rd grade. I've noticed a couple things from homeschooling. First,he has learned to self regulate. He has his own personal schedule,knows what to do and does it without alot of parental oversight. Second,he is more creative. He pulls things out and makes his own crafts and inventions now that he has time and free to do so. Third,he has learned better communication skills.He is overall more respectful and I feel has more control over his emotions.

Their friends tell them all the time that they wish they had the close relationship that my daughters have with my husband and me. One of my biggest blessings about homeschooling is the closeness we feel from being with each other as a family. I’ve also seen this with other homeschool families. Both of my daughters went on to college at well known universities and did really well! My older daughter got her Masters at MIT. The sky is the limit with homeschooled children (and families). Thanks guys for the plug!🎉🎉❤️

@@woodnymph3063 oh m th God i remember hearing this. It does feel horrible when you are shamed by the teachers even unintentionally the comparisons bring made and the labelling that happens with the contestant testing and just not being able to follow the unnatural expectations of spending the entire day in classrooms not being able to communicate with the people next to you as you learn or ask questions out loud without raising your hand like these small things add up to a very unnatural setting that doesn't actually prepare you to socialise in real life. No real communication happens without the socialisation between same aged peers. Like even kids one year apart will not speak with each other as you would in real life with people decades older than you. The first time i had real socialization was in my job at the hospital my colleagues of different shes and experience levels and backgrounds different stages of their lives etc as well as the patients who had lived full lives that i could learn so much from and had much better connections with than the group of 30 kids that were in the same room as me for 6 hours a day.

I'm a former public school teacher, and we home school our four boys. I totally agree with you about the pressure on students in public schools to achieve academically, although so much of what is taught is extremely watered -down, and that there are high levels of anxiety and other unhealthy things like drugs, sexual activity and confusion, etc. Most of my public school students had no desire to actually learn anything other than to get a good grade, to pass the class, and go to college in order to get a job. It kind of broke my heart because I genuinely love to learn. It's really great to watch my own kids as we home school. Of course there are things they wouldn't choose to do or learn about that we require, but as they get older they like the flexibility of their schedules and that they have more of a say in at least some of what they're learning and doing. It's great to see older home schoolers and those who are now past that stage. Thanks! Also, you both make me laugh and remember how much I really did love working with teens. It's a great time in life if people have the kind of attitudes and perspective you both have!

I homeschool my 7 year old, and will continue this with my 2 year old. The school industrial complex crushes a child’s natural love of learning. It gives the impression that teachers are the one to ask questions, not the students. It is more about creating obedient, subservient followers.

It sounds like the school system you're in is terrible. When it comes to public schools: Location Location Location My adult children are all very successful. They all attended public schools and went on to public universities. I would not change a thing. I actually moved so my children could attend better public schools. The student/teacher relationships simply would not have happened in a homeschool situation. All three of my adult children maintain communication with multiple teachers to this day. And of course, they all had teachers they didn't like. But that's life. I certainly don't care for everyone I have worked with. But the good outweighs the bad by far. And I made it a rule to learn something from everyone I work with. It doesn't matter if I like them or not.

I fully agree Tina. It does crush their love of learning. I left my daughter in school a bit too long but by then she was desperate to do home schooling. I focused on her interests and she thrived. She had access to many different subjects as well as getting out into the community. She only did it for ten months because she got her first job. She is now 41 and only stopped working when she had her 2 babies. Now she is a piano teacher with so many kids wanting to learn from her. She left school at 14 due to bullying and wasn't doing well. She was very depressed. We live in South Australia. She is now married living on a small farm, growing vegetables, with chickens, 🐄 cows and 🐎 horses. She has a really nice music studio. My grandson (11) doing bass guitar and granddaughter (7) learning 🎻 violin and piano and 💃 dancing. They are happy at school so far but I'm not happy with what is being pushed onto them now.

I started this video and had left a comment before watching the whole thing. My 7 year old went to 1st grade and in his first 9 days his teacher yelled at him for writing too slow and called him slow . His friend told me this and I asked him about it and he told me it was true. He is now homeschooling and can work through 2nd and 3rd grade lessons and has even helped his sister with 6th grade math problems. He is far beyond 1st grade but he writes very slow and has to make everything he writes perfect and bold. I am beyond thankful I pulled him from the system that would've eventually made him feel incapable. My 12 year old went to 6th grade for less than 10 days and she said girls were selling vapes in the bathrooms and boys were talking about doing inappropriate things to her. I talked to the principal and he said "if you want to shelter your child from these things you better pull her back out and homeschool again because middle schools are wild and no matter how much discipline I give it only gets worse because parents no longer have control" pulled her out immediately.. my 4 year olds will hopefully never experience the system. Thank you for posting!

Yes, the lack of support from family is very difficult. My grandmother is the only one who seems to be pleased about this decision (to homeschool my son who will be going into 4th grade next school year, which is when we will begin). I've always been the crazy one in my family though, so no sweat there. I will let the fine results speak for themselves. I plan to institute monthly "board meetings" into our homeschool (though I will not be recreating the school environment at home), and my son will be on the board. He will get to make big decisions regarding his education, while keeping in mind that he must maintain learning core subjects, but choosing how he gets to learn them. I think we will enjoy learning this journey together.
@unnamed2737
@unnamed2737 2 года назад
The beautiful thing about unsupportive family is that you can just ignore them knowing their lack of support directly stems from their lack of information about what homeschool actually is and how it works making them completely unqualified to offer you any advice on the matter. They literally just don’t know what they are talking about. Most homeschoolers deal with at least some family members or friends who are skeptical of their decision at the start but it doesn’t take long before your results not only change their mind but they begin to thank you for sticking with it. My family can see a huge difference between my kids and all their public schooled cousins, who seem to all be mentally, emotionally and socially behind her. Yes, socially. Contrary to popular belief, public schools are not the healthiest environment to build good well rounded social skills. It’s a great place to develop anxiety and other disorders though.

After this school year. I have made the decision to homeschool my son, going into 4th grade next school year. There are many factors at play, but the biggest thing I hope to acheive is getting him to love learning, as his education will be largely geared towards his needs and desires. School is a chore right now for him, and he has hated it ever since kindergarten. Hours at school to come home to a couple more ours of homework, and those needs can be met at home in much less time while finding a love of learning through things that actually interest him. This video has confirmed for me that this is the best decision I could make. I'm excited to be able to give him this opportunity! Thanks for the video!

I agree with your premise. My grand daughter started homeschool in 9 the grade and did so much better than when she was in actual classes. However it was remote from the school because of Covid. 10th grade she wanted to stay home again so her parents bought into the Accellis program and she did even better the second year. No distractions, she goes at her own pace and it's so flexible and we know what she is learning and she is not being brainwashed.

You guys have helped me concrete my answer! Due to Covid, I was forced into the option of virtual learning. Best thing that led to an epiphany...my child learns better at home and I cater to what I see her potential as. Because of this, we discovered a passion for coding, culinary, arts, woodwork and so much more. The personalized learning take is great information. Well, this whole video was well informed. Her public school experience was of uniforms, standards, and lack of creativity. At home, she gets to learn at a pace that the school limits. She doesn't have to wait until junior high to learn another language, of the importance of financial literacy, etc. I would love a video from your 'rent's elaborating on this method. Because this correlates smoothly to pushing out the best human possible as oppose to docile species backed by standards lacking creativity. 👏👏👏👏👏Shoutout to execute decisions parents, I know you are proud of these babies💯!

I was home schooled from 5th grade off and on until 9th grade then went to a community college and eventually just got a GED. Homeschooling only works if the parents are willing to actually teach. I am homeschooling my children but we had a rough start off and on in public school but always ran into issues at the public school. I have five children so coming up with a routine or schedule of some sort works sometimes but otherwise its more of an un-schooling approach. So long as work gets turned in they can do it on there own time in any room. This way its at their own pace and away from siblings so no issues. If anyone needs help with anything I am a full time mom so I am here to help and my husband on his days off or when he gets home. We all agree on the decision to home school. This makes trip easier and a learning experience. Its not as expensive as some believe I use my old college books and second hand or just buy what we may need at that time. I am not shelling out over a hundred for a set course. We take advantage of online programs and RU-vid. Homeschooling doesn't have to be stressful it can be very relaxed. So long as they are learning. A trip to the store where you have the kids do the math and check weight vs price for best value and count out the money or get comfortable using a card and talking to the cashier these are socializing and math skills that will stick with the kids. Rather than learning it in a classroom. Some things just can't be taught in a public school. With smaller classrooms and more one on one more kids learn rather than being ignored and slipping through the cracks in the education system. Take what you will from that.

I agree that homeschooling would be better. I've never been homeschooled but you're right about saying that school is a "system". They teach a systemic curriculum and one size seems to fit all for the most part. Kids are pressured to conform academically and socially, I think it's completely unhealthy and not the way things are actually supposed to be. I would think that kids who are homeschooled probably do way better academically, socially, and are generally more mentally healthy.
@BrandonEdwardsOfficial
@BrandonEdwardsOfficial 2 года назад
I agree! Public schooling is useful for government and cities because it is a simple way to cover the bases, but I think a lot of kids get left behind for lack of better words. There are many kids who can be great people if they are taught at their pace and interest level. :) And I completely agree about the social pressures of trying to fit in and be like able and what not.

I've been going back and forth for a while about homeschooling my kids. I've decided to put my oldest in pre-k in a public school but it's been such an awful transition for both of us. I stumbled upon this video and you guys have opened my eyes. I was crying throughout it because I went to public school and the things you mentioned (bullies, anxiety, pressure, etc) are legit! I don't want my kids to have to go through what I did. I have so much anxiety and I think it stems back to testing and trying to "keep up" with the smarter and athletic kids in my school. Thank you so much for this video guys!! Y'all made my mind up for me!!

But for some people that challenge is good. Learning you aren’t the best and you won’t always win is a GOOD thing. It prepares you for life. As a parent your job is to help them learn how to process and deal with things like anxiety or not being perfect, removing them from real life is going to really make that transition into the real world hard if they ever have to work in a team/for a company.

Unfortunately, having to be the first person to view the news before putting it out was traumatizing at times. Especially, with news reports on school shootings, teen suicides, and bullying. Have you thought about moving into a cave away from all civilization? You could also keep your son at arms length 24/7. It must be hard to be you. Seriously, how many shootings have happened at your son's school? You can make good choices. But don't make ridiculous choices You can't hide your son from the world. You need to teach him to navigate the world. You can't protect him from everything. In the USA with its liberal gun laws, even workplace shootings happen. It doesn't mean I am gonna hide at home. I have bills to pay. This is life in the USA. I am not going to let anyone keep me or my family from living life. Hiding in the basement in front of a computer is not life.

We tried public a few times in and out 3 different schools. Kept taking them out, for various reasons. A veteran home school mom once told me, "Your job is to give your children the skills they need to become life long learners. There's no way you could teach them 100 years of information within 12 years." Children naturally WANT to learn. They learned to roll, crawl, walk, and run with little to no help. They had the desire to succeed. Facilitate learning, they do the learning and seeking after knowledge. Public school can kill the JOY of learning. It can be made to be very stressful. My kids enjoy learning. They seek to learn even when we don't technically have school. College professors comment ALL the time that their home schooled students are the best. Why? Because they're able to think critically, make connections, and problem solve. They're not just little robots who know how memorize a bunch of useless facts.

There are reasons to homeschool, but I suspect there's more going on with you than you understand. Germany has a far superior school system than most of the US. Homeschooling doesn't help anyone deal with society at large. Talk to a counselor if you haven't already. You're going to be more prepared to become a self sufficient adult by staying in school than hiding at home in front of the computer in your pajamas TRUTH

This video has helped me no end.. The issues you discussed were very informative an answered a heap of my questions.. We're at a crucial point with my 9 Yr old daughter as I am about to take her out of school and homeschool her but I have been quite nervous about it. She is so unhappy at school, the bullying, the type of lessons, the teachers constant opinions and there general attitude toward her and the other students, ,the constant drama in the playground, all things she just can't deal with. She's the best kid, super smart and very creative and schools making her life a living misery.. When she's not in school she's just worrying about when she does have to be in school.. The subject matter at school is dull and restrictive an if she can't do it she's singled out for negative attention.. For example one of her loves is comedy and to make people laugh, she does characters,funny skits, pranks an makes movies an comedy sketches but her pre chosen school freinds and the school do not support it so she's stopped doing it so much. Being home schooled has clearly been only benificial to the both of you and the points you made have really put my mind at ease.. An meeting another home schooler skit was super funny, we watched it a few times 🤣🤣🤣. Don't think I've ever thanked anyone on RU-vid for making a video before.. Thanks guys👍

Great video! I love to see these from homeschooled kids. I went to school for Biology and then decided to get my teaching degree for High School Biology. During the teaching program it made me realize I wanted to stay home and homeschool my kids. My studies had me learning how to teach/handle kids with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, anger issues, kids who's first language isn't English, etc. While it is beneficial to learn that stuff, it just made me realize that there is NO WAY I could give a classroom full of kids the attention they need. There is just no way for a single teacher to be able to properly teach a classroom with gifted kids, average kids, and kids with learning disabilities in such a short time span. My first child is preschool age so we do a lot of play-based things but she is thriving! She's not even 4 yet and knows her whole alphabet and the phonics. She could also tell you all about bugs though too! It is amazing the flexibility that homeschooling provides. The only thing I struggle with is thinking "should I be organizing more playdates? Are they socialized enough?"

Its hard going against the mainstream grain and making the decision and sticking to home schooling. You 2 have obviously turned out well along side many others who had home schooling. I love homeschooling my 2 kids, and we all love being together. I dont have support doing homeschooling, and it has been awkward and lead to some bad things happening with family members who use this lifestyle against you. However, i can't go against my gut or the fact that we're bloody happy together and I can educate them in ways that interest them, or dont in some cases. But we learn any time of day or if they have questions randomly, I can talk about it and make up games or whatever helps them understand about the world, life, subjects etc. And i can correct behaviour instead of letting others influence them when theyre not with me. They have bad behaviour habits, but some natural reactions take time to improve. And if I need a moments peace and theyre happy playing, i can have that too.....sometimes... If they want to go to school at some point they can, but theyre happy so I continue. And just grateful Im in a situation to have that choice.
