EMT Nice footage and editing, mate. FPV mode is cool for a stabilized immersive view. I got an Osmo Mobile 2 recently and it’s been very handy, but is awkward to travel with. With the Pocket, I love that I don’t have to balance it and don’t need to upgrade my iPhone for better video quality. To me it’s a B-roll monster.

3 yrs later... I love that you have stabilized 60fps 4k in a nearly invisible camera. Even holding your phone to use the Mimo app, you can face your phone Down, while the pocket shoots everything in front of you. 👍👍😍 oh, did I mention? (No).. All for 199 bucks, now... With much improved autofocus and firmware. Cheers! 🎈

Ohh. They saw all the RU-vids praising the original. It is now back up to 300 bucks. So I bought one used for 150 on ebay.. Works well, but I bet it needs a firmware update. The man bought it and tried it twice. He left the card in it, so I saw his test footage. Lol.

Love the Osmo Pocket. Took it on a cruise over Christmas and it took amazing videos and photos. Enjoyed pulling out the small form facter over the larger iPhone XS Max. While it has the option of making changes in the Pro mode when attaching a phone, I enjoyed taking really good pics and video while in Auto. Never missed a shot or image with the fast turn on and set up. Make changes in pro mode unplug the phone and settings stay. I know many people are saying it wont do this or that, but its a first version of a compact camera on a gimbal that takes amazing videos and pictures. Now there is always room for improvement, but for a first out of the box gimbal camera at such a low price, its amazing and I can not wait for DJI or other company to make the next version of this.

My reasons for liking the Pocket OSMO are: Reasons 1, 2, and 3 - it’s so small no-one notices you are filming them. No posing or forced smiles. Reasons 3 and 4 - it’s so small that it’s always there. The best camera is the one that is with you!

I love the Osmo Pocket hands down, and can’t wait to move from my iPhone mounted to an Osmo Mobile 5, to the Pocket. The convenience, ease of use, and ability to literally put it in your pocket, are all reasons enough to buy one next month. I’m glad to see, even after three years, your video is still useful to a lot of us. Congratulations on your success.

I’ve had it a few weeks now, just playing. But yesterday I did a gig with it, and was very satisfied. As with any video tool, you must understand and accept what each tool does. Yesterday I needed reasonably good general audio, a 4K master, and gimbal stabilization. It performed well.

Excellent review. I’ve had mine two days now and I’m loving it. As long as you’re aware of its focussing limitations in low contrast lighting conditions its and excellent little camera and can do every vlogging function and fit in your pocket!! Love it.

Great review..just added the Osmo Pocket to my gimble gear (Osmo Mobile 2). I like the low profile which enables me to take this to sporting events, the 4K/60 to add additional footage with my 4K drone content. Again great work👍🏿

Thanks for testing this out at a theme park! I was planning on getting one of these for an upcoming trip to Orlando and I had been wondering how this did with environments that were very full of visual stimuli (most of the other videos are of landscapes and outdoorsy stuff///thanks for helping show me what this would be like where I am likely to use it

A few months back I bought the Osmo Mobile 2 that I planning to use on a Mediterranean cruise I’m taken later this year. Then bam DJI releases the Osmo Pocket and I’m completely rethinking my strategy. The pocket looks so convenient, especially for the traveler. I’m by no means a pro photographer and just wanted something to share my trip with family and friends. I like the dynamic range of my iPhone XS Max, but the pocket does not look bad at all. Did you do any post processing? Thanks for reviewing this. Always value your opinions.

I have nothing to add. I love the Pocket. I am putting out a video tomorrow that was totally shot with the Pocket. There are also some really good 3D print devices on Thingaverse for it. Notably is a small device that holds your smartphone to the Picket securely.

Another great video! While I like the pocket-sized convenience, the colors do look a little washed out and the exposure is a little darker than the iPhone XS Max. Also the price is a little high. Will be waiting for version 2. Thanks for all your awesome videos! Happy New Year!

The Osmo corrects in conflict with the IPhone's stabilization and it glitches. That's been a clear problem, I feel. The phone's stabilization can't be disabled, and the two conflict. It gets jerky, and your videos showed this, too!

which is why when you use a Ronin for example you disable in camera stab and also in lens stab. You don't want a fight and you will get one

As always very informative video.. I guess for normal vlogging and photos Osmo Pocket is great for what its value is. that wobble effect people get for built in ois in smartphones is nasty if you don't shoot in higher frame rates. A real competitor for gopros .

I started out with a 5DMK3. If you like parts and weight, this is the camera. Then I got a Sony RX100. Ah, no interchangeable lenses but it had a zoom at least and oh so light. So it was that and a tripod and builtin stabilization that wasn't all that good and it was a tad hard to hold so I got a cage for it. Then the Pixel 3 came out and wow..amazing video at 4k with stabilization. Okay, I'll give up the zoom..it's 4k after all. But still not all that stable and I might be shooting and get a phone call..yada yada yada. So, I gave it all up (well, not the phone--I still shoot video on it in a pinch) and went with the Pocket. Wow, what a change. People ask me..'hey didn't you bring a camera?'. In my pocket. Amazing how much better that video looks than the old 5DMK3. You can't put a price on light weight. And convenience. And stability. Thanks for your video because I'm going down that same track.

The Osmo pocket is my PixeL2XL's companion and both fit in my pocket. ULTRA portable and powerful. For video, I use my PxL as a monitor for the Osmo with Aputure MXled and I use my pixel with (moment (18) Wide and Portrait (58) lens ) for photography. Dji gave me the wheel as a gift since they are still late with the WiFi module after pre-order Dec 3. You should get the WiFi mod, it's the most valuable of all accessories. The Osmo's 120p bitrate is a bit higher and its low light is better. My set up includes the Joby tripod, Rode VidMirco I use with my pixel2XL. I even use a lav mic sometimes. PS. I also use my GoPro Fusion and Mavic Air. ;)

Hey Bro'! Thank you for this nice post. This gadget is awesome from my point of view. It isn't a game changer for vlogers, it's sure. Or maybe it is... But I think it is a very good way to take smooth holiday home videos for demanding peoples. It's so small, that you can carry with in the summer in your short... And it is also very useful tool to teach children taking smooth quality videos. But it's sure the price is a bit high for this use. During the object tracking test in your video was very nice to catch the little smile on your face, when the tracking was efficient like the osmo mobile2...

Think I’ll wait to see if DJI come out with a Osmo Pocket 2.0 in the summer. Or pick up a refurbished one. I’m pretty happy with a quick video clip and posting it to social media. Very hard to match the simplicity of a smartphone. Camera is one more thing to keep up with and keep charged.

From vids I saw, certain functions of the osmo can only be assessed by connecting to the mobile🤔...details in vids are better with osmo then 7black..i like the osmo on that aspect but being not waterproof, gives the 7black the edge,for me..as here in singapore, it's rains as much as it shines😇

Yeah, thanks for offering to answer our questions. I've been looking for a video camera to attach to the wingtips and tail of my airplane that I fly low and slow through awesome scenery. I want a gimbal camera to remove the small but inherent annoying shake induced by the propeller, as well as random wobble from turbulence. But also, I don't want warped or excessively wide angle (for this purpose) images like gopro produces. So on the surface, this device seems great. And so, here are some questions. #1: Some flights might be very long (up to many hours), so can the device be powered by running a long mini-USB cable from cockpit to wingtips? #2: I'd love to be able to guide where the camera is pointing sometimes, so can I do that by connecting the long mini-USB cable into an ipad in the cockpit? #3: In some cases it is difficult to impossible to know when tires are about to touchdown, so could one of these underneath the airplane near the tail point forward and provide a real-time preview image in the cockpit on another ipad via another mini-USB cable? #4: Can fancy operations like time-lapses and such be configured, started and stopped remotely in the same way... on an ipad application?

I say stick with a GoPro Hero 7 and switch your frame profile to Narrow for this application. Osmo Pocket would be a bit too delicate I think for the use case you are referring too

@@8dcphoto : Well, I already know that I must put each Osmo Pocket that is outside the airplane inside a clear plastic cylinder to protect against wind buffeting. I could be wrong, but I simply assume the wind on such a tiny gimbal would not be tolerated by the device... at least not for endless hours of flying. However, I did try it on the outside of a car at 50mph for 10 minutes and it worked okay (which surprised the hell out of me). But 150mph for several hours or more is a whole different ballpark, and I am confident that would not work (without even trying).

I recommend GoPro Hero 7 for this but technically you could run a cable and control it with an iPhone/iPad.

Still holding out and sticking with my GoPro 7 Black and Osmo Mobile 2 (with GoPro adaptor). Gives me flexibility to add the Pixel 3 to the gimbal too and record high FPS video on GoPro.

I have watched a tonne of your gimbal reviews and videos, much appreciated! Really like your style and content. Now I think that I'll get far more use out of the Pocket than I ever would a gimbal. I am very much a spontaneous film maker and photographer. I don't often pre-emptively think, later today I will shoot something, I just do it. It's the reason I hardly ever use my camera. Phones do a good enough job these days for most needs and that's always here. It also means that I'd probably not get the usage out of a gimbal. This on the other hand... I could carry all day and still have my phone in my pocket with room for other things. The best tool for the job is the one you have with you, I'm done with my purchase decision. Thanks! Oh, last thing. I was torn between the Vilta M as I loved the Yaw and the Dji Osmo Mobile 2 as it just seems so good. I was put of with OIS issues for all apple devices although a small magnet can help... Now this has FPV which gives me that Yaw I was after on the Vilta. Sweet.

Glad you enjoy the videos! The DJI Osmo Pocket is definitely my pick for practicality and portability. I share the similar mindset of filming on the fly. Heads up. The new devices like iPhone XS, XR and Android devices like S9 or Pixel 3 have a stronger OIS that performs much better with gimbals minimizing the jitters. Hope this helps! Love this Osmo Pocket. I took my SMOVE Mobile to Europe a few months ago and got amazing video but it was a hassle every time I wanted to use it and it was a pain to lug it around. This little guy will be coming with me on my next Europe trip. What tripod were you using with your phone?

Great video BTW.... Re the Dynamic Range observation between the OP and the iPhone 10 XS, did you shoot the OP in the D-Cine colour profile? This gives you a flatter colour but boosts the DR so in post you can really push the grading if needed. I didtched the Osmo Mobile 2 for the OP recently, and all I can say is I'm thoroughly impressed the savings on size speed and convenience alone is all it needs to kill off its older bigger clumsier Osmo Mobile sisters and the Mimo app is really well laid out.

I was waiting for this video. The stabilization on the Osmo Pocket is very good compared to the mobile 2 / iphone video. There's definitely some grain in the night shots from the OP I'm assuming that was on auto? Another great video. The Motion Lapse is definitely something I can get creative with! Your editing and overall production quality is worth viewing each episode. Had no idea this thing was so versatile. I was considering using 1080/60 as the standard because I was told 4K/60 may heat up so much that it might cause a freeze. Your thoughts/experience? Little tip, guys: 1. LEARN how to NINJA walk (no joke, google it) and 2. For shots like in 2:48, walk backwards when filming it, then reverse it in post - no gimbal on planet earth is stabilizing subtle up and down movements.

I just bought the osmo pocket for situations where I don’t want to use a phone gimbal in public, but the most annoying thing of the osmo pocket is that it beeps when it starts recording and also when it stops. This is frustrating because even though it’s a discreet camera, the annoying beep is very noticeable at church or at a wedding. Do you know if there’s a way to turn off the beep like the GoPros do? Thanks.

The annoying beep is the most complained about feature of the pocket on DJI site really old technology. Hopefully they will bring out a firmware fix soon for this.

Great little camera but you cannot change the battery, by adding your phone it becomes a big lump, it is so light that if you stand it up, a breath of wind will blow it over. How would you compare this to the Osmo Action?

It is a great start but not there for me. I want to better temperature exposure for blue one that I can adjust manually in the software it’s an amazing product but in the low light situations everything is darkened and that means having to spend time in post production lightning the image quality

I really appreciate your responsiveness to the comments. I thinks that there could be some promising applications for the Osmo Pocket in sync sound documentaries, but the camera is demonstrated with either vlogging (talking directly into the camera from 3' away) or just plain-old MOS to go with music. It would defeat the purpose to have all sorts of adapters and a cell phone clamped to the camera for cinema verite film making. Obviously not a large market, but an important one. @@StanHirson Sound is pretty good for the size I think, problem is you need to be careful how you hold it, many on RU-vid are covering one of the two internal mics with their hand/finger/thumb. Default sound is certainly better than the Hero 7 for example. I'm just starting to play with external mics using the DJI USB-C to 3.5mm adapter. It will take any TRS plug-in from an external mic. So far pretty promising results with my Rode Lav Mic and a cheap Omni.

@@8dcphoto Thanks for the update. I'm noticing that some folks are trying to use mics that work well on cameras that put out a 3v power to drive the condensor mic. I don't think that the OP has 3v output for the mic. It would be much better to use a dynamic mic but I don't know how sensitive it would be. I'd like to try the OP for documentary use with sync sound but don't want to waste the time and money to screw around. I AM curious now about the Removu K!. It has an external mic input that is near enough the screen to avoid handling noises. I appreciate your staying in contact with me and responding to questions!

Also, there is a new camera system, although not as small, and that is the Obsbot Tail that has fantastic stabilization and AI tracking. One can still walk around with it and also attach it to a chest holder and I think it would be incredible for not just stabilization but the tracking. It is definitely NOT a gimmick! Have you thought of reviewing one?

There is no control with the remote. I stumbled upon while testing and comparing. I went back and there was no functionality sadly.

That could be a good test but I would personally side with the portability aspect of the pocket depending on the situation. The RX100 has a bigger sensor and zoom capabilities so that could be a good feature set for some! It comes down to what’s more important to you.

Are you setting your shutter to double your framerate (i.e. 1/120) for the 4k 60p? I am not liking the judder on the town footage. It's the only thing that puts me off... Otherwise, looks really nice.

The Osmo Pocket also has a manual mode that lets you play with shutter speed, iso and exposure compensation. Not as robust as a Filmic Pro for example but some damage can be done hehe. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 🤘🏼

Yeah but using the phone defeats the purpose of having such a small device, especially when i'm on. a bike tour for which i bought. All i want is a slider for exposure compensation so it does not burn the sky

@@cristibaluta manual mode works on the Pocket with NO phone attached. EMT didn't demonstrate that and some people don't know how to get to it since they don't read manuals :)

@@silbay 3 months ago there was no manual mode. I do like the manual mode and flat profile but i'm more and more sorry for buying this without proper investigation. The head doesn't recover from turns completely, at least in the slow follow, the image goes crazy for a fraction of a second when i hit a hole, the sound stops completely in wind, and so on...
