I see this trimmer compared to guillotine trimmer but I would like to see it compared to other rotary trimmers. This would be a more equal comparison. I have fiskars rotary trimmer which seems very similar, works great, has all the same features except can cut through more layers of card stock. Even though this seems like a nice trimmer I can’t say I’ve seen enough of a difference in comparison to other rotary trimmers.

I like quality. It is so gratifying to work with products that hold up, are accurate, and easy to work with. I have several hobbies and use several tools. The great tools get used over and over. Usually it's an investment because cheap tools are just that - cheap. Tim Holtz products are well thought out and I find worth every dime. I am going to buy this tool and will probably get rid of the other inferior trimmers. They just won't get used. Thank you Mr. Holtz for another superior product.

Initially I was SOLD…but then checked the price. Even though I actually can afford $100 for a craft supply such as a paper trimmer, I just can not justify that price. I have three paper trimmers…don’t absolutely love any of them for the reasons that are mentioned about this new trimmer being better than others, but alas, I’m going to have to wait this one out. If by some luck it ends up coming down to half the price, I’ll definitely jump on it because that’s the most I’d pay for a paper trimmer that’s made of plastic and aluminum. Btw, Jennifer M just made a video about this new trimmer which I watched this morning. If I was in her shoes and making cards as part of my business, I would likely be inclined to spend crazy amounts of money on important craftroom equipment.

Jennifer McGuire didn't buy the trimmer. Like everyone else that showed it on the release day, she at minimum was sent it for free, but probably even had a contract with tonic to promote it.

Tim Holtz/Ranger produce excellent quality products and Im sure that this trimmer is no exception. It appears to be of a similar concept to the Rotatrim cutters out of the UK but their products are very heavy and substantial. One feature that does not impress me with the the TH trimmer is the foldable arm(s) needed when cutting large paper/cardstock. At the end of the day it's a plastic trimmer (which I realize is a selling feature in that it's easily moved around) at a hefty price point. JMHO.

I have the RotaTrim paper cutter. It does cost more, but I've been using mine for 10+ years with absolutely NO dulling of the blade. Very sturdy and cuts like a dream after all these years. For me it was a one time buy.

@@jeannem4475 Mine too. I even purchased an extra blade assembly "just in case" and after all these years, I still have not needed to change the cutting blade. Over the years, I have purchased MANY different cutters and the Rotatrim is by far, THE best trimmer (but most costly too).

@@momofschnauzers things like trimmers are an investment. I'd rather buy one that has a price point that matches it's quality and durability. This trimmer is very expensive for a plastic based trimmer. Just because it has the TH brand isn't enough for me. His trimmer is not the best on then market.

I have purchased this trimmer and I am already concerned about your previous crafters complaining about the rough edge it leaves, so when I test it I will let you know how well it performs. For the money it costs that really should not happen.

I'm with you - I would love to have it, but even at half that it would be an indulgent purchase for me. I saw a single stamp and die sentiment set the other day priced at $64....Yikes! Not for me! I will have to make do with what I have - I'd rather have more stamps or dies with my budget limitations.

If I didn't already have a Cutterpillar Pro, I'd buy this one! I like the extended measurements beyond the blade, the bottom measurement edge and double extension arms. Looks like it's more portable than the Cutterpillar.

I hurried up and ordered this trimmer yesterday. I think the SSS website was bogged down a bit because everyone was checking it out. I can't wait to get it. The timing is just right for me as I was looking for a new rotary trimmer. Thanks for your tips! 💖

Remember that everyone will want to have this trimmer now, but eventually something else will show up and many people will get rid of this trimmer. There will also be sales once the hype has kind of gone down. If you still feel like this trimmer would be useful to you in a few months - a year then you can pick it up second hand or on a sale.

06/16/2023 I was so excited to get my Tonic Studios TH Media. I made my first cuts yesterday and am sorely disappointed. I used a simple single sheet of cardstock and I wound up getting one side clean cut and one side rippled. I couldn't help but wonder if they sent me a used trimmer with a dull blade. I was willing to replace the blade, however, I cannot find one in stock anywhere. I've seen the Tim Holtz videos where he cuts chipboard. Since I cannot get a replacement cartridge anywhere, I will attempt to use some aluminum foil to sharpen the blade and see if it helps. I will let you know how it goes.😒

Of course he would come out with this AFTER I finally bought a rotary trimmer about 6 months ago. However, I don't like the way it cuts, the rotary part of it drags a little, and it doesn't cut that width of paper. So of course I bought this. I need to sell some things. I think I have 6 trimmers! Yup, I have a problem. TFS

I like the idea of a rotary trimmer but - I wish it had a full 12” base. I have his other trimmer 12 inch trimmer, I don’t like those legs. I like to make scrapbooks and when it use other one trying to trim a 12” page to a specified measurement, the measurements were always off. I do now have a full one by Tonic and have not had any trouble. (From Simon Says, my hubby bought me for Christmas) I like his trimmers they are sharp and make great cuts.

@@mcdanielsw being foldable means it has a portion of the measurement area, missing. I too want a FULL 12" base meaning one that doesn't fold out and has all measurements in tact. This trimmer doesn't impress me. The only thing I like os that it has the measurements in an easy to read format.

Would love to see this in person before committing...could use the 12" feature. I have had Tonic products for years and have been very pleased. My go to is the medium Tonic/TH guillotine trimmer which I initially thought would never hold up! It is wonderful ....just not always big enough. Then I have to drag out my bigger old Tonic guillotine...would be nice to have an all-in-one. So tempting to buy this...but I shall wait a bit and watch the reviews and pricing...Including shipping costs which can make or break a purchase for me...talk about gouging!

Weird how people's experiences are so different. I have the TH stamp platform and small guillotine (not the mini), and both have been just fine for years. I wonder if issues occur when a product is manufactured?
@pennyf9886
@pennyf9886 Год назад
It seems manufacturing is inconsistent. There are spots in my platform that doesn't stamp properly. I found the sweet spot. And the 12" guillotine, there's a spot on the blade where it snags so the cut is fuzzy; furthermore, it doesn't cut straight. I have to invert the paper and recut to get sn even cut lengthwise.

I jumped on the bandwagon & bought this trimmer. I am NOT impressed. The cutter has a tendency to stick on the rail. It can leave a 'shredded' edge on some cardstock and worst of all, the cuts aren't always straight due to the movement of the cutter. I'll be going back to my Fiskars!
