My 2019 charger scat pack with the 392 hemi averaged 27 mpg while mostly in eco mode on a road trip from Detroit to Boston! I reset the mpg indicator before heading out and I had the car in eco mode for 99% of the trip with the only exception being on the way home when we stayed at a fancy hotel in PA and I went ripping down some windy back roads in sport mode for a very brief period of time. My speed for most of the trip was between 75-80 mph on the highways in eco mode. When we were getting close to home on the way back I checked the average mpg and it read a 27 mpg avg. 👌🍻

I had an SRT 392 & wanted the upgrade to a Hellcat. You did make some major points about both engines & exhaust. The Hellcat engine sou ds more like a truck when it starts up. The 392 motor does hold its gas a lil longer than the Hellcat , but you can't get over the supercharger whine!!!
@badreview662

Get Scatpack for $50k , add aftermarket supercharger and other parts for $10 make it similar to Hellcat power , still save 20k . Anyway you will never have chance to enjoy 700+ hp on public roads .

The 392 has Nav too. Nav is not HC specific. I bought a '19 Challenger R/T Scat Pack 392 Widebody in Octane Red Pearl with all the options. I'm really loving it. In Canada, it cost me about $25 less than an HC and it is still an incredibly strong car and yet a nice comfortable controllable daily driver. The insurance is less, it's better on gas, and it's also 150 lbs lighter in front so it handles better in winter. I drove a '12 Charger for 7 years while I needed a 4-door. Charger design is a bit more refined but I wanted to get back to a 2-door coupe for now. The two cars are very similar in most respects since they're built on the same platform and share the same tech. The 6.4L lives in the shadow of the HC supercharger so it is often underrated by casual observers. More horsepower is not always better. It depends on what you're doing with it. Speaking of bang for buck, the 392 is the sweet spot. If you are a diehard HC fan, then get one. In my opinion, the extra 220HP does nothing for you on the streets. That's why I got the 392 and after 19 months, I still feel like I made the right choice. It's an amazing machine. It's factory rated as 485HP but in the real world it is common to see the 392 put out 500HP completely stock.
@AutoAcademics
@AutoAcademics 4 года назад
Thanks for sharing, Bill Boucher. We are aware that the 392 can be equipped with Nav, but since ours didn't have it we used that omission as a contrast to the Hellcat we reviewed previously. And we agree with you on the power of the 392. It is way more than most people could use and more hp isn't always better. It sure is fun, though, if you know how and where to use it. Nice to hear you still enjoy your 392 after almost 2 years of ownership. That's how a car purchase should be. Sounds like you made the right choice for you. Thanks for watching!

Tbh with such a good power for price point , I would just get the scat and get a whipple , Headers and Intake and call it a day honestly . Many people buy hell cats just for the badge and the name , the cars are hella fun but they aren’t very good race cars for some reason especially going up against zl1 or gt500 . Hell even a bolt on 5.0 or ss can keep with them damn near I seen it with my own eyes.

Drove both and have a scat. You can use the power without too much Hassel in the scat. You have to feather the gas on hellcat up until maybe 50 before you can floor it without spinning out. If you have to tame the beast that much your not getting full potential like you would in the scat. Not to many people driving over 100 unless you want lose your license.

@drones9667
@drones9667 4 года назад
@@justinporter6113 yep which goes to his point about power. a supercharger is nice but for majority of the buyers, its not useable power. So you're paying an extra 30k+ for something that you won't use, but more of a "feel good" thing knowing you have that much power. Thats where style comes in too, you get all the same styling and options on a scat as hellcat so it makes it even harder to buy a hellcat, atleast imo. All reasons i personally bought a scat over a hellcat, even though I could afford the hellcat option. To me, its pretty dumb to pay 30k+ more for just a supercharger difference. Scat has enough power for me to have fun.
@gr8cylindergr8t82
@gr8cylindergr8t82 3 года назад
@@drones9667 Only people who cant afford a hellcat settle for less. Same reason why people settle for a v6 rather than a r/t or 392. I had a 392 SRT and now a hellcat. Night and day and not once have I been to a track and can still use all of its power with the red key. Get some decent tires, now you have a better platform and better engine with good internals. There is only one reason to have a scat over a hellcat, just the price you cant afford period.

@AutoAcademics
@AutoAcademics 4 года назад
Yeah. While a bargain for what it's capable of, $80k is still $80k. And it's very impressive how driveable the Charger Hellcat is. Yeah, it'll bite you if you pet the pedal too hard, but it'll also follow your commands as long as you respect it. At least when the 392 bites you, you shouldn't need a tetanus shot.😜

To sum the video up, only one reason to buy a scat over a hellcat... The price. If you can afford it, hellcat is better in every situation. Traded my 392 challenger for a widebody hellcat and its night and day. Got some Nitto 315's in the back and thats all she wrote. Not to mention a better platform if you want to mod with forged internals. If price is your only concern, get a scat. I live in Cali with heavy traffic and can still use the full power from a dig or even a light roll race. Same for people that cant afford the scat, get a v6, still a fun car, but in no way will it be "better" than the higher trims.

Gotta be honest, I have a 5.7L Hemi challenger scatpack R/t with the rare shaker hood. Thing is still fast it’s an R:t and overall I think it was worth the buy instead of a hellcat. I can just put ops anyways to make it a hellcat later on. My God, such an amazing car! I hate EU regulations that made any car that more than 1.6L basically only for the ultra-rich in my country.. This car would cross the $150K mark easy in Egypt and many other similar countries. As a substitute, we get the shitty unreliable and still expensive BMWs that are not even on the same level of power or stance this beast has. One day though, I'm not staying here for long. As a engineer at dodge , I recommend the scatpacks. Hellcats put down too much power in the rear and spin out at ridiculous speeds. If you want grip, and still enough power then get the scat. Tune up the scat, get a racing intake, and it will pull harder than the hellcat with full traction. Just a tip from one of the main engineers at dodge ;) STILL GOTTA LOVE THE HELLCATS THO. not talking shit 😉

@AutoAcademics
@AutoAcademics 4 года назад
@@erickjohnson7703 Maybe it could be seen that way. But please forgive us if we step on any toes, because the R/T Scat Pack, which we originally were talking about, is a totally different beast when compared to the base Charger SXT -- different suspension, brakes, powertrain, etc. And while the standard R/T versus the base Charger SXT is a slightly closer comparison, there are still very large differences in the powertrains used for each car -- different engine and transmission. While it may look similar, unfortunately the base Charger SXT has too many different important components when compared to any of the performance models (R/T and higher). Oh, and only the Demon does wheelies, which is two performance models above the Hellcat. Crazy, right?
