I am Chinese. I have been living in Lafayette for 5 years. I had lived in both east coast and west coast before and I was told to go back to my country multiple times. But none of that happened to me here. Lafayette has the best people.
Thanks ❤️🫶🏼 this is my community! Most people are good people here. The truth is no matter where you go thru have bad people. I think people in our area, they good people!!
I am from Hong Kong and I went to UL and had been living in Lafayette from 1979 to 1986. It is still my best experience of my life till today. Safe , nice people, and good Cajun food…. I am planning to go back Lafayette for a visit with my wife next year.
@@ThisIsMyRU-vidName1 okay lol😂. Maybe before the big hurricane. Right now lol😂🤣😁. That big hurricane straight put Louisiana in a sinkholes. The whole Louisiana is upside down. Place that use to be peaceful. Now is crazy.
I’ve lived in south Louisiana my whole life but Lafayette has more racial inclusion in the core culture that anywhere I’ve seen. My first music festival in Lafayette I saw old and young, white and black, and gay and straight people all dancing together to the same song. I was in awe. I felt like I I finally found home.
@@baleychampagne1792 : Howso? I encountered the most colorism and hateful comments from Creole people. They are the cream of the crop in their own minds . I believe you but just thought they would equate you as one of their own (light , bright and right. )
I grew up in Central Louisiana. Came to Lafayette when I was 18 to see a band...I moved to Lafayette less than a few months later. Been here ever since, my wife and i have proudly raised 3 kids here...couldn't imagine raising them anywhere else for every reason you mentioned. especially the roads...we just can't figure out how to leave 😂 Thanks for visiting and for the kind words my friend. stay safe.
Now here's someone who quickly saw the things that are cool about Lafayette, but that's because he's person who perceives the culture instead of just looking at the trees and the buildings etc. Good job Josh, thanks
For those who are wondering...boudin is a rice dressing. Absolutely delicious! The roads you described apply almost to the whole state of Louisiana. But they are working on trying to get I-49 through there.
I don't really agree with the rice dressing description but that is definitely the simplest and closest to an explanation that we can give to ppl who don't knkw what it is lol
Man look south Louisiana is the best place in the US I'm from here I know best people best food best hospitality .... Man look you don't be hearing bout bout south la unless it's Nola but it is the greatest place to be from and very proud to be Cajun even to the Creole there ain't no better👍
Im from South Africa and I hope one day ill visit Louisiana and go to Lafayette and New Orleans. I wanna eat gumbo and jambalaya I also would like to visit the bayou.
I promise you will not only feel 1 million times safer but you will actually be 1 million times safer in Lafayette. If you come at certain time of the year there’s way more to do here and around Lafayette. The people are very hospitable❤️🫶🏼
To be fair, the roundabouts are much better than what we had before...Also, you need to go to Olde Tyme Grocery's and get their crawfish poboy. If you were here in the summer, I'd recommend their snowballs as well.
I'm from Lafayette and bro I haven't heard anyone describe the difference between here and other places before but this is it. We one big family around here man
New Orleans girl here. We live to eat, not eat to live. Bring your stretchy pants. Lol. We call people baby, honey and sweetie. If someone tells you well bless your heart, it’s not a compliment
Your comment was for me. I grew up in California and moved to Louisiana when I was 15. I moved away after high school, lived in Houston then ventured to Arizona. Which I love the state of Arizona and the topography, Will always be my second home. but now we’re getting too full, and I want to return to Louisiana and move to Lafayette, Louisiana.
@@kshihano And your comment was for me! I was born and raised here, but moved to San Diego in 2000 then Houston. I moved back here in 2010, moved back to Houston, then back to Lafayette in 2015. Houston treats you well professionally but there’s no place like home. Hope you make it back soon, we’ll keep your seat warm until then! 🤗
I'd also like to say props on dropping by Dwyer's. My dad frequented that place almost religiously for breakfast on his way to work at his last job. Been there many times. Good people there.
I got family in LaPlace and in Lafayette. Some Cajun cooking and good people every time I visit !! I love Louisiana I’m actually going for Christmas haha
Bienvenue! You should come back for Mardi Gras are one of our festivals. Wish I had known you were down here I would have invited you to the Zydeco breakfast in Breaux Bridge.
Nah my brother we have always been this nice been here my whole life had plenty of my boys come visit when I was in the corps and i tried to tell them all but they had to see it to believe it
Billy's Buodin Balls. Ohh my goodness. They're right of the exit on I 10 they're about the size of A scoop of ice cream. Louisiana is a great state. My wife and I was on a road trip ran us 90 out of New Orleans thru Houma to Lafayette she freaked out seeing gators sunning on the side of the road.
Josh, Billy's Boudin makes the best Boudin and boudin balls with pepper jack cheese! Yes, we do all have the Cajun accent no matter our skin color. You are spot on with your observations. I'm glad you had a good time. I'm born and raised here. Michelle
@@herewegoagin4667 I’m sure some would, even though I have no idea what a creole accent would sound like. But Lafayette is Cajun and New Orleans is Creole (reputation).
@@ThisIsMyRU-vidName1 Lafayette is a mixture of people. The Black or generationally mixed people around Lafayette don't call themselves Cajun, if anything they'll say they're Creole so Créoles would have Creole accents not Cajun accents. The Créoles we're there first.
@@herewegoagin4667 I’m mixed and I proudly call myself Cajun. My first 10 years, I lived on the West Bank and spoke with a YAT accent. Now that I’ve lived near Lafayette for 30 years, that bayou accent is “tic tic”, or c00nass as some say. I study history and genealogy more than most people I know. If you can find a video of people speaking Creole accents, please share!
That's Louisiana for ya been in Louisiana my whole 38 years I'm from central Louisiana around Alexandria it's a different world in different parts of the state
Piney woods and red water vs swampy flatlands and gators. I'm a child of both. See I can tell you where Jena is in relation to Alec, Pine-vull, Pollock, Neebo and Fishville. I can tell you where all the speed traps are in Mamou, Maurice, Youngsville, New Iberia and Scott.
Go back when the festival international is happening, you wanna see global inclusion; it’s the epitome. Remember us Cajuns are the Ex French Canadians that done got kicked out and sailed down around Florida and into the Gulf landing in what we now know as Louisiana. It’s so culturally diverse it’ll make your head spin, and make you wanna eat ALL the foods and dance with ALL the women😂🎉
The whole Acadiana area is the best, True cajun country. Lafayette is are epicenter. Now come back for Mardi Gras. Scott, Mamou, Church Point, and so many other towns and cities. So much better than New Orleans.
I’ve been several times before and now that’s the only way I cook since I learned how lol 😂 Don’t know about those panty’s though because they set some lady’s on fire 🔥🤣🤣🤣
I am native. Moved few years ago. I miss the food and the festivals. I don't miss the shitty roads, terrible politics and dickhead pigs. Nice place to visit. Don't stay too long or you will visit LPCC. Boudin can be shipped frozen literally anywhere in the world.
I have to disagree. The culture is so rich, I’m proud of my heritage. I have friends all over the US and I’m always shocked at how intense their encounters are. I’m not used to people being rude, the lack of respect and how they don’t interact with others, other than screaming. I don’t live in the city, I’m closer to Breaux Bridge, but originally from New Orleans. Acadiana is so unique! But I respect your difference of opinion.
