I shoot Sony with Leica glass but would love to fill that void for fast/quite wide for auroras without breaking the bank and a Sigma Art lens would be my first choice. I can’t believe they will change the connection end if you need that -that is so service oriented/customer friendly. Thanks for your video!

Thanks for the comment Sarah :) glad you found the video useful! They really do create some interesting lenses like the 20mm f/1.4 or 14mm f/1.8 which might be ideal for auroras. Not sure about the service being available everywhere, but here’s the link to the UK info about mount changing: www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/mount-conversion-service/

My sigma art 18-35 1.8 apc lens works well with my M50 (fitted with viltrox adaptor). It is like having a bag of prime lenses. It is one of these lenses which makes your arms sore at the end of the day, but produces dazzling results. Although the lens doesn't have image stabilization, the M50 has digital stabilization for video (which gives professional results or weddings etc). They are an excellent long term investment and my lens cost £800, but is as good as a range of prime lenses costing thousands. Even with the APC sensor, the photos look like full frame. I love bokeh in my pictures and video. It makes them stand apart. No single canon lens will touch it!! Thank you sigma.

I bought Sigma lenses for my Sony. The 24-70 f2.8 and the 100-400 contemporary. The contemporary isn't as good as the Sony equivalent, but it's massively cheaper and lighter. It's great for travel/wildlife photography because you're breaking your back bringing it everywhere and it's easy to hand hold.

I’m really pleased to hear the Contemporary lenses are also kicking booty! For travel packing light is the way to go. I once went on a trip and took my Canon 24-70 2.8. It stayed in my bag most of the trip - just too heavy for holiday snaps! Thanks for sharing your experience with that lens :)

I started using sigma's glass with the well known sigma 17-50 2.8 for apsc. It was a good lens for it's price really. Then I bought the 30mm 1.4 also for my apsc, and I got fascinated with the images i got with it. Soon then, I couldn't resist and bought the 35mm 1.4 and then the 50mm 1.4. Sold the 70D I had and the lenses too, and bought an RP with an adapter. If I could buy one now, I would go for the 24-70, but I will have to wait a little bit for that one. For anyone asking themselves if they are good enough I can highly recommend to try one. They are cheaper, and yet very good quality professional lenses.

Great video. In fairness, as someone with both Canon and Sigma glass, I don't think they're as comparable as you do. I mean, sure, if you want to shoot at brick walls and charts while measuring distortion and sharpness the Sigmas more than hold their own, but, do any of us work like that? Especially for video I much rather prefer the look and color rendition of the Canons. EF glass for a softer look, and RF glass for a punchy one. Besides that, I've found the Canons typically are quieter and more accurately focusing, hold tracking better etc. Where do Sigmas shine?...they're cheap, sharp, and robustly built....just a little too sterile to my eye.
@NaikMedia
@NaikMedia Год назад
Thank for your kind comment Loud&Clear! I agree that they're not comparable when you take into account the more subjective aspects, such as rendition and 'look'. Canon lenses are gorgeous, and some have a lovely warm and enjoyable rendition. As more people moved towards watching videos on their phones, I've found myself tending towards preferring a sharper image (that's why I like the R5C + sigma combo). It's clinical, as you state, so more work in post perhaps when colour grading, but it's a nice sharp, clean starting point. As for focus and tracking - you're spot on. Sigma can't keep up with Canon lenses, and Sigmas are ridiculously noisy when micro-adjusting (some are better than others). If someone needs to record audio 'on camera', then Canon lenses will be the best choice. You make some great points, thanks for contributing =)

Hello, I’ve seen some reviews saying that Sigma’s 24-70 IS in video has a problem (it’s still shaky) is that true?
@NaikMedia
@NaikMedia Месяц назад
It doesn't always play nicely with Canon's IBIS or digital IS. I think it's to do with the communication between the RF lenses being superior/faster and communicating better with the camera. Basically, yes - it's not as good as a Canon lens' IS but still better than no IS at all.

@NaikMedia Год назад
Thank you so much Fred :) glad you enjoyed it. That’s an interesting point you raise - I absolutely do think the recent third party offerings from Sigma, Tamron and co frightened Canon into protectionism. They’ll probably sell less cameras with this policy 🤷‍♂️
@ellshamano
@ellshamano Год назад
you mean only new RF system, Canon does protect it just until he releases enough their own RF lenses. Anyway, with the new EF-RF adapter with or without a control ring, you can even use EF-S lenses and other lenses that can only be used on APS-C chips as well as on the new mirrorless full-frame cameras, which is amazing! So more options, not less ;)

I shoot with the R6, the lack of quality/affordable primes had me look at 3rd party. I use the ART 40 & 105mm for my portrait business and it’s top notch. I would stack the 105mm against the RF85mm 1.2 any day that the CLIENT can’t tell the difference. We get too obsessed at specs when most clients have NO clue, they just see a nice pic. Bokeh means nothing to them.

OK, you have 28mm f1.4 and that with 40mm and 105mm F1.4 are the best of Sigma Art lenses. 105mm F1,4 has a bit of cult following as it is a unique focal length and it is difficult to find a portrait prime lens like the 105mm F1.4,.

Though I understand why you like the ND filter, you can put them on the front of the lens. No sigma RF is a good reason not to buy Canon cameras
@NaikMedia
@NaikMedia Год назад
hey Rich, great point. I prefer to use ND filters behind the lens as that way I can use a lens hood, and it's much quicker and convenient to adjust and even switch out the filter. I got tired of feeling really awkward as I unscrewed and screwed on filters to my lenses while my clients stood around waiting for me 😅 If front filters work, then you have all the RF lenses are open for use as well (I have front filters for all my RF lenses, but I hardly use them for above reasons!). I couldn't agree more - no sigma RF is a great reason to avoid Canon cameras.
@IAmR1ch
@IAmR1ch Год назад
 @NAIK MEDIA I get it. I like it too. But you can use HSS and no nd filters with clients with stronger strobe. They do make filters that clip into the R series camera that go behind the RF lens. So there are options. The Sigma 50 1.4 DG DN ART mirrorless lens is superior to the current Sigma EF 50 1.4 Art lens we use in every spec and it is sharper wide open, smaller and lighter according to reviews. But we won't be getting those and is all it takes is for Sigma to change out the rear section of the lens to make it RF. The big thing for me, Is I have EF lenses and don't need RF, but there are a few new DG DN Art lenses I would like which are not produced in EF/RF lenses, but available to other mirrorless cameras. I will migrate to sony over time but at a great expense. I think we all know Canon is going to stick it to us and make us buy RF lenses and eliminate the competition. What happens to Sigma if Nikon and Sony do the same thing? Voting with your dollars is the only thing that will fix this.
@NaikMedia
@NaikMedia Год назад
@@IAmR1ch Great point Rich. It's a real bugger that the other systems are getting those mirrorless lenses and Canon isn't. It won't be until 2038 that the patent on RF lenses expires, so until then Canon are going to try and make as much money as possible through their own lenses. That's a long time to wait, so the EF adapters are a good compromise for some. I think for photographers it's more of a pain; as you say there are ways to work without ND and those newer Sigma Art lenses would be handy. So for many of them it's RF lenses or nothing. That's worsened by the fact they're relying more and more on processing power rather than optical correction (e.g. the RF 16mm F2.8 and RF15-35mm F2.8). I have no doubt Canon are aware how many of their users are jumping ship to Sony - but as market leader, they don't seem to care. Sad.

Price for performance Sigma produce better glass than Cannon. You get more in return from Sigma glass than you do from Cannon RF glass based on how much you give. The prices of RF glass are not reciprocal, at all compared to how much you pay. I would rather get more for my money than get less for my money , even if it meant I would get glass that has lesser quality but the ART glass, at least in my view, looks better than the RF glasses Cannon has produced so far! So why overpay? … ART definitely has a lethal dog in this fight and Cannon is scared which explains why they offer expensive glass with exclusivity. Well, I work too hard for my money just like anyone else. I’m pro Sigma all the way! I think because Sigma’s main focus is glass it means they know how to do a better job at lesser cost than Cannon because Cannon make various gear. So the implication is that Cannon’s glass department has nothing on Sigma’s 90% workforce !
