Another amazing video Dagan. I could watch you present these all day. I'm just beginning to build my first board for guitar. I've done it in the band on bass and it's made a big difference to my playing.
My boss GE-7 is by far my most prized and important pedal. I don’t think I could be happy with any amp without it - being able to subtlety tweak the tone is a must for me when playing g with gain
EQ pedals are great... but not the MXR 6 band eq. This is one of the most hissing, bad noise inducing pedals I have ever owned. I also have its big brother the 18vdc, 10 band version, which for me is fine. I don't know... Maybe I got a bad one, but the only way I can use it is as a "cut," especially the high frequencies. It's not my rig, other pedals, guitars, and power supplies causing it. I've tried everything.
I have the mxr 10 band. Its become the most important pedal I own. You can find almost every tone you desire if you just listen and adjust the eq. Happy new year and stay creative!
Best tone I've ever had was from my HT-5 with my MXR EQ pedal through the effects loop. Perfect way to boost specific bands and slam them into the power amp.
Anyone who's played a Mesa Mark/Caliber series knows just how powerful a Graphic EQ can be. I was considering getting an EQ pedal for my old Peavey SP60 because I couldn't find any MESA's in my price range. But I managed to find one cheap and I love how versatile it is. Honestly Graphic EQs are the best thing since sliced bread and more people should be using them. Also nice little 316 reference you through in there Dagan 👍
i want to do is take the neck pickup out, put a 6 band eq in , design a eq pedal just right size like pickup, maybe with eq preset function even better.
I use two actually, both from Zoom MS50Gs. One right after my first drive stage, kinda "spicing" the sound, and a parametric before the amp sim, just to tighten some high gain "woofs" and "hisses" lml... This video should be named "why super strats are awesome" too...
Been using a boss eq for years as a lead boost. Upside down smile... With super strats. As the boost sound still sounds like the amp & guitar. Unlike a distortion pedal .that alters the amp sound.... The guy that mastered the amp eq setup in my opinion Is Kerry King.. Great vid. Thumbs up..
Honestly EQ pedals can have one of the most drastic changes in your sound, I don't understand why people dont run these on the regular. I love running a 6 band EQ in the front to push the mids like Kerry King or Dimebag.
WOW ! Crazy you mentioned K King and Dime. I don't listen to either but happen to use both their signature pedals. My KFK EQ has been silent modded and it's the last pedal on board. The wah (2nd pedal) is a Dime wah bought as soon as released. Thought this was the bomb and still do. Plus the look is cool to me.
Your dainty little nails detract from your exceptional content. Im sorry bro just being real. Excellent playing and tone! Again. Sorry for talking smack your rig is bad ass as is your playing!
I was going to comment and ask a question, but I see that this guy doesn't answer or reply to any of the comments on his channel. He must be far too busy with primping his hair, makeup, rock attire and painting his fingernails black to comment. So, I'm not even going to bother to subscribe to this channel either. Adios Amigos.
I have this pedal. I bought it couple years ago because dagon did a video about slash and he showed off what EQ can do! Can't live without it. Actually considering getting a 12 band. Such overlooked and underappreciated pedals!
Ok Dagan you win... 😂..time to get an EQ pedal..I use EQ heavily on all my pedals utilizing the tone control they possess be it a tone stack or 3band EQ single time knob etc so this is a logical step for me..you've completely convinced me..
A cheap option is a Behringer EQ. I’ve owned one for a few years. It’s low noise and I think they go for about $30 or $40. I use it on my acoustic guitar sometimes to boost a guitar solo. I also have a Boss GE-7 and use it for pushing some far out stoner rock distortion .
I just bought a black star studio 10 6l6 and thinking about getting another mxr 10 band equalizer one of the new models. And see if I can dial in a little bit more of a Dumble tone out of it and make some of the notes stand out a bit more
Great video. EQ pedals are the best. I have a pretty simple pedal setup, but what it does have is an EQ up front and an EQ in the loop. The tone shaping options are endless, but I mainly use the one up front as a mid boost to drive the amp and tighten things up and the one on the loop as a solo boost.
I have a Peavey Valveking 100 head. The lead channel has a distortion sound that leaves something to be desired. Thats putting it nicely. The distortion has a strange buzzing texture that sounds horrible. Overall, the Valveking combined with my Peavey 4×12 has a sound that is way too bright and piercing. To combat this, I run a 808 style overdrive into the front of the amp. I set the overdrive for a darker sound. Volume at 9. Drive at about 3 and tone at about 4. The 3 band eq on the amp is set with Bass at 6.5, mids at 6.5 and treble at 4. Since Im pushing a lot of midrange in the signal path and a lot of mids from the pre-amp, I run a 15 band graphic eq in the fx loop. With the 15 band eq, I leave all the sliders in a straight line at zero to start. I roll everything below 125 hz down, and I roll everything above 8k down. I also dip out a little bit of 670 hz, and a little bit of 1k and a very small amount of 2k. So theres a big mid push in the front before and during distortion but a slight mid scoop post distortion. I have a few more toys for my rig, but just those two tricks have taken my treble heavy Valveking and made it sound bloomier, warmer, and darker. Like a Mesa Boogie Duel Rectifier. When I used to play shows, I used to get asked a lot as to how I made a notoriously bad sounding amp sound completely different
Well you don't NEED an EQ pedal to play guitar if you're just starting or something. But to make your electric guitar tone sound unique? No better tool for that than EQ. EQ can be the difference between 70s hard rock and 90s death metal, and lots of individuality within genres is defined by distinctive EQ sound sculpting. It's pretty important to have some EQ control SOMEWHERE. My metal zone has great EQ customization options for distorted tone. It makes a MASSIVE difference. An essential layer of control for tone.
There’s no volume boost on the mxr eq. Can I run this after my distortion pedal and use it to cut trough when it’s solo time? Will the mid hump eq be enough to be heard ? Wanting a mxr eq for a while.
I would say it's enough. Even though there's no volume boost slider, you still get up to +18dB boost on individual frequencies on this pedal. If you really want the dedicated volume slider, I use the Boss GE-7 which has the volume slider plus one more frequency band.
What if you boost the amp mid knob then cut the mids on the eq pedal in the loop like a Mesa Mark amp. Or cut the mids on the amp and the pedal like Kirk...
Great video...... I've got a Donner Eq pedal. Love it. I use it with the mids bossted, as a clean ish boost. Sounds great infront of my Boss Ds1.......!!
Yeah when I played alone I really didn't need eq,but when I got with a bass and a drummer, my guitar sounded real based out,you couldn't even hear the clarity in my guitar, sounded like it was mono,so when I turned the treble up,I was good but my tone suffered,so yeah you definitely need a eq pedal
I love the idea of running through an effects loop. But I run a Vox AC15. With no effects loop. Where would the best place to put it be? I’m trying to get that overall sound adjustment
ooo I have a different opinion than Ranch Manager… in my experience, I tend to like my eq pedal as the very last thing in my signal chain, right before the amp! It just goes to show that everyone has a different ear that prefers different sounds, but I think almost anyone would agree that having an eq pedal is better than not having an eq pedal! Pick one up and form your own opinion about what’s best, I promise you’ll love it!!
