Westies are the best! I had my first Westie for 15 years and loved and cherished every minute. I just adopted a pair of 2 year old siblings today! Can't wait to get them home. Your videos are great!
I concur with your five points as a current owner of two Westies-preceded by one other Westie who sold us on the breed. I also find that Westies enjoy car rides so long as they get to see out the windows. Buy booster seats for them to provide a view outside without having to be standing up-which is dangerous for them.
You are so right! I have had many dog breeds throughout my life, but after my mom got a male Westie (named Sammy short for Sampson - she said he deserved a big strong name) i fell totally in love with him. After losing my Harley (a black Lab) Feb 2020 (this was very hard we had to have her put down) I told my husband if we ever get another dog i wanted a Westie. Sept of 2021 we picked up Arabella better known as Bella Bean. She has stolen our hearts. My husband had always been a cat person until we got married and he became aquainted with Harley, she absolutely won him over. I almost cancelled on picking up Bella due to the fact my husband had just came home 3 wks prior to picking her up from a 3 wk stay in rehab, & a 4 week stay in the hospital before that from Covid which almost took him 3 times. 2 of the 4 wks was in ICU intubated. I just wasnt sure if we were going to be able to raise a puppy along with his therapy & me still working full time. But picking up Bella was absolutely the best thing we did as she pushed my hubby to work on his rehabilitation toward walking again. Sorry this is so long but Bella has been our life saving miracle....
Thank You for creating Sami's videos. We lost our Westie on July 29, 2024. She died of cancer at 10 years old. The love she gave us was unmeasurable. She was the best dog we ever had. Anyone who owns a Westie knows what I mean. Keep up the good work. It helps us get through our difficult time.
I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how difficult it is. I am glad that watching Sami is bringing you joy! Thank you so much for sharing. Sending you lots of love! ❤️
I've had one for a few years now. It's a lot of personality in a small dog. He's pretty chatty lol. I had some issues house breaking him but that was because of the previous owners. He's a fun dog though. He gets along great with cats, my pittie, and my cousin's boxers.
My present Westie has never howled and my previous one only howled once-the day our other dog died. He only knew she wasn’t there and we think he was calling her to come home.
My westie also howled once, it's when he left my friends house where he met his first ever doggo friend. He was caught doing a long howl through our doggo cam. But when my old dog passed, he never howl, but he always stay beside my old dogs bed for almost 3 weeks before he slowly moved on.
My Westie lived to be 18 yrs old. He was the center of attention for my hubbie & me. We miss him terribly since he’s gone. But everything you describe about Sami our Westie was too. One unusual thing about him, we think, was that he loved eating tuna fish. Bless you both & keep up w/your adventures & information. By the way, our westie’s name was Cervantes.
I am sorry for your loss! You gave him a long, great life, which is what we can all wish for ❤️ Sami also loves tuna! Fresh steak, canned or dried, loves it! I love that you named him Cervantes 🥰
i can say that westie has internal clock. if the meal isnt ready, mine would drag the bowl everywhere until we get him some. he knows when his bathtime, usually on saturdays/sundays on 3pm, so he runs up to his bath spot. every 10 pm, he’s already curled up in bed😅
My Westie loves going to new places! I’ve had dogs before that would happily walk around the same block 5000 times, but not my Westie! He gets bored with the same old same old.
A beautiful ❤..🤗(hug) this Friday. That for me was just a lovely vlog About your Sami🐕🤩🤩🤗**Murina** So much relative..&.. good sound knowledge about Westies. .&. For anyone thinking about getting a Westie.&. would they be the right fit for us.&.a family! =Absolutely yes!! In all probability They will become the lo❤ve of your lives.🤗 ... I still have a lock of our little lady's beautiful white coat... 12 years@🌈bridge She travels everywhere with me in my 🐕❤❤❤️❤️❤️🥰 Happy weekend Sami🐕🤩..&.. family.
Thanks for another enjoyable video. Great summary. Nice that you acknowledge that they all have their own personalities, yet share similar traits. Our Pippin, too, has an internal clock for meals and bed times. He howls like a husky when I leave him. Like Sami our Pippin loves seeing new places and people watching.
About being clean, my westie is absolutely a dirty dog. He likes walking through puddles and mud while he can absolutely avoid it. But it's true enough that among all other dogs I owned, he definitely is the most friendly dog. He is friendly to both human and dogs but he prefer to play with big dogs. Lol
I agree with all points on why a Westie is the best selection of a dog. I just have a question? I have found with Kayie she doesn't drink much water. I have to coach her in drinking more often. Do you find this with Sami at all?
I am glad you enjoyed the video! 💛 Yes, Sami also has days when he drinks less water than usual. I noticed he drinks more when the water is fresh (and cold from the faucet), so I change it even 3-4 times a day and sometimes he drinks when he sees that it's fresh 🤭 Also, what are you feeding Kayie? If you feed her foods with high moisture (fruit, bone broth, juicy home cooked) then she might need to drink less because she is hydrated 😊
That's it! Been watching Sami forever, but this upload settles it. My next dog will be a Westie! Thanks so much for all your Sami posts! SAM-MAAAAY!!! ❤❤
Very nice Westie channel. Have seen many posts. Many videos, from different channels, show Westies with clothes and shoes. Is it to protect the dog or for cosmetic reasons? Or are Westies exposed to the cold?
The internal clock is science and intution. The smell of food is at it's highest when it's served, and lessens every hour until it's gone, the dogs lose all scent of the food around 23.5 hours and that's why they come asking you because it is time for it to come back. Also my Westie mix absoulutely hates, rain, mud, and anything that sticks to his paws.
Yes I have, but it was a 3 hour ride. He slept the whole way in his carrier 😊 Have you watched our flying videos? We flew with Sami a lot and I have some tips for flying, similar to being on a train I guess ❤️
My westie hauls! But not for long! 1- to our monthly local fire drills siren. 2- Some classical music pieces my daughter plays on violin. 😮 she sings along with her hauls. Westies are never stinky and belong to Royal families.
Ooh I love that she howls to classical music! So precious 🥹❤️ I've seen videos of Westies doing this, I even tried to teach Sami and it's hilarious, because I show him how to howl and he just barks and thinks he's howling 🤣🤣 He has no talent for music, that's for sure 😅
Not his favorite but he forgets about them once we are outside! I keep his coat quite short and he is not used to cold temps, so this is why I think he needs to wear them.
Thank you! I got him in Portugal. I emailed the Canine Club (like the AKC if you are in the US) and I asked them to put me in contact with certified breeders. They did and that's how I found Sami 🥰
You’re not reading your dog right. He’s uncomfortable at 0:50 when he’s yawning which is a calming signal. And he also doesn’t like having strangers in his face while he’s on your arm or on the ground and why is he always dressed? Even with shoes? That’s not cute but most certainly quite uncomfortable for him. A dog shouldn’t be an accessory.
please be careful of over popularizing Westies. In America it leads to bad things for many breeds for example the101 Dalmatians movie. BIL had two Dalmy rescues they were great dogs for a family that had their eyes open going into the deal. All brachiocephalic breeds like French bulldogs that have their own health issues Pitbulls and all their attendant issues being owned and irresponsibly bred for and by very bad people. Sorry for being a "Debbie Downer" but I owe it to Casey , my, gift from God, and Arrabella the 20 pound Westie with a19 pound heart, and Finley my Long Leggedy Beastie who earned his Gaelic name meaning White Warrior, by being a complete mush, (Like his Dad)
Westies could do with a bit of support in the UK, I think it's fair to say that over the last 25 years Westies, as a percentage of dogs in UK have been on decline. When we do meet other Westies when walking around, they are generally much older. Our Westie is now 2, we have yet to meet a Westie that was younger than him when out on our walks. Westies need promoting and Sami is a great ambassador for the breed.
@@JOOI525 I will give credit to the UK and Ireland for following responsible breeding practices. The breeder of our first Westie, Casey, went there to obtain a very high quality breeding pair and Casey turned out to be one of the World's great great super dogs. Of course that's a completely unbiased and objective opinion!
@@nicholasbaird My current two Westies also dislike black dogs in particular. Have no idea why. The first one had bad feelings for any dog with a pushed in face, I.e., bull dogs-French or British, boxers, pugs, etc. No obvious reason for this either.
