about disadvantage and a big one: is the hardest job to recover on uptime. Once RPR is dead since your tools need to constantly dps enemy, not to mention that you will loose all the gauge to make the maximum uptime, is like "forgivable on mistakes rotation, heavy punishment on recover" unline NIN that is totally the oppose on that, hurajin makes you to recover pretty nice while your forgivenes rotation mistake is heavy punished.

Yeah, but as a nin, missing a GCD can throw off your entire burst window. It's not forgiving.

@@StriderZessei Missing shroud or even a double shroud with full arcane circle resources on death means you literally do jack nill for dps compared to a NIN waiting 5-6 extra seconds for Mug or Trick attack to come back up for a full window.

If you care about optimization, there is a big disadvantage of reaper: it is resource negative but as long as the style is cool af I don't really mind doing only one enshroud during burst window and freestyle everything else it doesn't cost THAT much anyway

Despite the job being advertised as "Edgy DPS", the amount of scythe twirling makes me feel like I'm Sailor Moon and it's the best thing ever watching your Reaper do pirouettes more times in a rotation than does a Dancer.

I feel like a lot of the problems RPR has are artificial to be fixed as later patch content. Like, you could easily solve the burst awkwardness by making Soulsow give 50 Enshroud gauge and lowering the potency/removing the aoe altogether. The Soul gauges moves all have stacks already too so theres no reason to have them be uninterruptable else you lose your gauge, the time limits on the stacks are already generous enough you can hold them between phases in P3S.

Reapers when the tank dies during a trash pull and they're next on the aggro list: Arcane Crest + Bloodbath + Second Wind + AoE weaponskills It's basically a less potent but longer lasting Bloodwhetting. Perfect for buying the healer time to revive the tank and heal them, as well as keeping the group from wiping.

Playing Reaper and maining it through Endwalker really showed me that the FFXIV devs can do some amazing things with completely original jobs going into the future. Unlike Sage which seemingly necessitated a lot of influence from Scholar, Reaper is it's own beast entirely and is amazingly fun to play. This gives me hope that they will continue to add completely original jobs to the game going forward, or at least ONE completely original job per expansion paired with a tie-in job that has new unique elements.

Reaper is super fun and I love it, but only at level 90. This is part of the problem of it starting at 70 and having a very simple kit. Hydaelyn forbid you get synched below 70 and go thru a dungeon with only your 1-2-3 combo and 1 OGCD to weave. It's kit is sparse enough that you really do want Enshroud and Communio just to stay awake. It feels like playing SAM without Midare, NIN without a trick attack window, or GNB without the Gnashing Fang Combo. Empty and devoid of joy.

@@obviouslykaleb7998 that's why I don't sam. They ruined nin in hw, Sam in end Walker and I assume they will ruin reaper when the next xpac comes out. Funny how that happens, nin was good, Sam came out so nerf nin, reaper is out so nerf Sam etc etc. Tbh this would be fixed if jrpgs would realize its the 2020's and stop with tab combat in favor of action

My one complaint about rpr is where is my gosh darn voidsent hug animation yoshi p i want a hug from time to time from my voidsent Beyond that i really love this job so much fun to play and learn and tbh at least to me i still find myself learning more on how to optimize the class compared to a lot of other classes which i like that and it feels busy which i prefer jobs that keep me busy and not sitting there pressing 123 over and over

Reaper is definitely fun despite it needing a DPS buff. My biggest gripe is Arcane Circle. Not only is it only a weaker 3% buff aoe raid wide (other melee/jobs give 5% instead), but you also have to be in the mercy of your party that you get 8 stacks for harvest which almost never happens. At best the stack buffs gives 7 the majority of the time so you never get the full damage. Second gripe is Shadow of Death needs to be part of the fluid rotation instead of some weird out of date debuff. Especially where other melee have it engrained into their rotation. To me, the damage numbers seem the most funky and all over the place so I'm not surprised it's currently the weakest melee in 6.1. There needs to be tweaks for sure.

This is my very first class, I'm a brand new player to ff14 coming from WoW, and honestly its super fun. I'm only around level 80-ish now, so I have yet to get the final bits of the kit, but so far its still very fun

Reaper is gonna be my very first Melee DPS. Once I reach 70 I'm gonna transition from Black Mage to Reaper. Which I know will be a very different play style than I'm used to but it's worth it cause it fits my character.

In my quest to get all the jobs from 80 (70 in the case of RPR and SGE) I finally got around to leveling RPR. I wanted to hate it, but it's very fun and satisfying. Enshroud at 90 feels like mongo Fury Warrior from WoW and is super satisfying. The really nailed the SFX and visuals. I do think it's also a bit simple, but like the SMN rework it gives them room to add things later which I'm hoping they do.

Most of us are vets, come from xi, pso, black desert etc. Also I was stating I have no clue what that is, mainly because it's an original for this game. The dev team now compared to 1.x and 2.x and even 3.x seems to have the Polish down so saying it reminds you of an ancient game is kinda odd imo

Reaper needs some type of recovery tool. RPR goes negative on resources and just sucks major balls when the boss jumps away and you're sitting there with no way of recovering anything.

I agree. It is the way RPR is designed. Do dps to get resource A, which you use to get resource B to use your signature ability Enshroud. This makes recovery pretty damn hard especially if you die you lose 2 resources and gotta start from the scratch. RPR needs some form of recovery skill.

For leveling reaper, I haven't tried leveling it myself but from friends of mine who did level it I heard kinda the opposite experience. Not necessarily that the class is difficult, but to them they said that from 70-90 it felt like they had to constantly relearn the class every few levels. because the rotation would completely change and they could not fully enjoy reaper until 90 because they didn't know how reaper actually played. Basically, unlike what you said, they felt that there WAS something missing with rpr until they were nearly max level, with the class being very lackluster until it reached higher levels.

my first job to 90, and though I main BLM right now, I do find myself going back to it now and then. it's so simple and straightforward (I feel), yet still fairly powerful that if I want to easily blast a dungeon or do a prog boss in PF without thinking as much about things, the reaper is great as I can still put out fairly substantial damage while not having to worry as much about the rotation, at least compared to some other jobs (like BLM, where if you mess timing up and drop your astral phase you're immediately far, far behind). also, some jobs feel awful to play in synced content, either due to rotational differences or w/e else. but RPR (alsongside SAM, PLD, and more) feels pretty ok even at the lower levels like 50.

I always had the dilemma of wanting to main dark knight but also absolutely hating tanking, plus lately the dark knight animations have been just boring in my opinion, so reapers just the perfect job for me

I know I'm in the minority when I say this job hasn't grow on me. And don't get me wrong, the rotation feels amazing and the job is cool as hell, but I prefer to play all the other melee jobs instead. Maybe because of that "this job has only 20 levels to get to you" thing. Also it may influence my opinion that I've been a main DRG for almost 2 years? xD

the biggest downside of this job is doing lvl synced duties. without enshroud and plentiful harvest, it just feels very empty and bland. i'm a reaper main but i never queue into any roulette with it

oh modded enshroud. enjoy bann BTW reaper wasnt punt in dragoon gear because of "edgines" more because dragoon had zero other class to his gear. monk got samu, mage have allt he same like tanks, ranges and healer. dragoon was alone so SE put reaper in his gear slot.
