I'm Dylan (22), an Economics and Finance Graduate from the University of York (with a year studying abroad in Australia at USYD). After discovering Investment banking and Economics wasn't my desired career while studying at university, I decided to audition to do a MA (Masters) in Professional Acting at top drama schools across the UK, eventually landing a spot at ALRA - Where I am training for the next 15months... Despite the career change Economics and University life was the most valuable experience I've ever had. You have to read before you attend class to understand what's going on. Please practise a lot too it helps. You're gonna find it hard to find videos on RU-vid to help you. So try and go through as many texts you have access to.

2번이랑 4번은 진짜 공감... 뭐 여타 사회과학 분과가 다 그렇긴 하지만 아무리 교과서를 읽고 토론을 해도 공허하게 외치고 있다는 느낌뿐ㅎㅎ; 그런데 이런 생각이 든 건 5번 때문일지도.. 내가 경제를 전공하지 않았다면 효율성이나 수학적 사고에 길들여지지 않았을 거고, 언제까지나 공상과 이율배반 속에서 헤엄치고 있었을 수도 있겠다. 경제를 배움으로써 뒤늦게나마 현실을 직시하게 되어서 다행이다. 2021년 10월 12일 오후 9시 48분.

Thanks for the videos. In regards to when you mentioned the Physics and Mathematics graduates being preferred over Economics graduates, what is your opinion on a dual Economics and Mathematics degree? I'm a mature student, currently studying at the Open University, and I'm kind of torn between studying Economics and Mathematical Sciences, or Mathematics and Statistics. Some other reasons I wouldn’t: - not as relevant to finance as people think. Maybe bits of macro are (mostly to central banking) but if you want to go into finance an A&F degree would give you more knowledge. - lots of maths to learn to actually do economics, you need to fit in a lot of extra maths if you want to study it at a higher level past undergraduate. - it doesn’t equip you with a lot of technical skills relevant to the job market. Other than econometrics where you might learn stata or R there is usually little to no options on learning things like sql, python etc. which a lot of jobs/ research requires

Just finished 1st year of my economics degree in ireland. In my uni, masters (not undergrad)economics students go on a trip to the IMF, ECB, European Commission etc. As well as irish trips to the central bank of ireland and so on, so there are opportunities for trips if your a economics students, although most don't.

I think it’s good to be non biased even if you like something. I have been going for 11 years so I have been able to let some of the freshmen know courses to take that were worth it and some weren’t.

An economics degree is best applied through 'OPERATIONS' no matter it is in being the actual business operator or the operations manager in almost any field of industry.

I think thats because Economics itself is a very broad discipline, hence the application is also too broad to be of any use by itself. Best thing to do with an Econs degree is to have a specialization/minor/specialized degree. Best minor to do with econs would probably be Computer Science in today’s complicated financial systems. Specialized degrees like financial economics, MORSE, Econometrics, etc etc.

@Blue Clouds for my degree you needed an A in A level maths, so if you’re not doing A level maths I wouldn’t recommend it. My friend doing the same course as me really struggled with the maths heavy modules so he switched to business economics at the end of the first year.

studying economics at university should have only 1 objective: to become a superior researcher. That is possible only unver supervision. That is why try to write paper per subject. This is the practical in economics degree. LEARN R, Pytho, Econometrics and Simulations then make a judgement.

People who study physics and mathematics study the hard stuff, and that's why their brains become more robust. Economics has little intellectual substance, you can figure things out on your own. Tell me...can you figure out what Albert Einstein figured out and eventually proved ... in both the Special and General Theories of Relativity?

Don’t bother getting your degree in economics. I did 25 years ago. I’ve never used it once after college. May as well saved my time and money and gone into a blur collar job instead. It’s useless.
