You we’re(and still is) definitely my loc inspiration when I started my microlocs. Everyone thought I was crazy for wanting to loc “my beautiful, thick hair .” I’m now at the 8 months mark and definitely loving the journey. Now my 12 year old wants me to establish hers really soon.
I feel that locs can turn someone into a confident person. Yes there are many ppl who combed out there locs bc they lacked the confidence but there also are many others who grew so much more confident bc of their locs. Everyone’s journey is individual and that’s what makes locs sooo beautiful✨
Yeees! I was working on my confidence before I got my locks but now that I have them I just KNOW I look good. I mean that like.. not in a conceited way, just in a way of just really feeling it on the inside. Idk if that made sense, but just know I agree with you. Lol
I had a traditional set, but combed them out after almost 3 yrs, because I miss my loose natural hair, but I go back and forth wanting locs, now I'm looking into micro locs , but I have really fine hair and afraid of breakage
I definitely would be more confident. Because I would have my hair done 24/7. My hair is also hard to manage and I can still wear wigs and stuff like that
If you are lazy with your hair AND don't have room in your budget right now for maintenance... Don't do it...especially microlocs. Even though you can get a couple/few months of hair freedom, at some point you gone have to retighten your hair...that takes time and money or effort and time!
That’s crazy because I’m on my second set of traditional and I’m considering micro locs. It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s mainly because the person that started my second set didn’t part my hair correctly. My left side is way fuller than my right, meaning she got lazy and made my right side thicker 😩 I’m going to detangle them and start over!
I used to have micro locks and then I combined them into traditional loc…. I always wanted them bigger I feel like the bigger the tree the stronger the root🙏🏾 as long as you take care of them❤️😉 my hair has grown so much faster it’s waist length and I am creative so my styles are endless🤷🏽♀️ even with traditional locs 👑😁 I love all locs period 😃✨
I don’t have locs, but honestly if I did I’d want them to look just like yours😍😭😍! And I love how you pointed out that locs are not “dreadful.” I’ve heard other people support the term dreadlocks but it doesn’t seem right to me😕, so locs it is! 😌
Young Woman, I have been saying that for years and I am 66 years old and it is, “they’re called love “ , “there’s NOTHING dreadful about our hair.” Not going to try and explain this, because if black people don’t understand this in 2021, I have no words. Unfortunately, I don’t want to put in all the hard work. And it is so time consuming. But thanks for all of your valuable advice. But heck, if I could afford to pay someone, I would.
I definitely agree with you on having to love all the phases. They are clean and crisp, then get a little frizzy, then you have a mini fro at the roots then IT REPEATS on the next cycle! You've got to roll with them all!
All great points! I do like to change hairstyles but I feel like having my microlocs leave me space to create some of the same styles that I created with my loose hair! I do think that it’s worth mentioning that retightenings feel similar to having your hair freshly braided. I didn’t done braids when I was natural for years, so I forgot what that felt like . So if you’re tender headed, you may want to consider that before getting locs also. 🥰
I tried microlocs for half a year and I was able to do most of the other style like twist outs and braids. The only thing I missed was having a fro. I really missed my fro.
Do you have the twist done for yours? My scalp is really sensitive like really sensitive and thought this would be a solution to less tension on my scalp. I keep hearing mixed reviews. Some people say it’s light and you feel nothing and others say it’s tight. I don’t know what to believe.
@@MsNaturalBeauty1000 I’m just now seeing this! 😖...I started my microlocs with 2 strand twists but I interlock the roots. And whenever I do a retightening, my scalp feels slightly tighter. I’ve explained on my channel that I’m much better with the Reties now so I don’t make them as tight anymore but both INTERLOCKING and RETWISTING the roots will bring your scalp SOME form of tightness and tension for a few days. What IS light and you can hardly feel it are the locs themselves. The smaller they are the more it just feels like loose hair in your everyday styling and how light it feels to have the locs themselves. I hope this helps!
I be watching your videos knowing damn well that I ain't ever getting locs. I get tired of my mini twist after a month. I just enjoy watching your videos
I thought my locs would be completely mature by now too! No such luck. But they're finally mature enough that most people recognize them as locs, and I decided to be content with that. Actually I thought my hair would end up looking a lot like yours which, looking back, IDK why I thought that I have just over HALF of your loc count lol.
Had locs for one month!!! I am now in the process of taking them down. Cuz I want more versitility. I love playing in my hair. And so I am getting micro locs in a few months. Really actually do your research first. Cuz having locs is fun but having the same hair style(box braids) for a the rest of my life isnt
My microlocs are in the frizzy stage and I'm happy. I'm just so happy i decided to do this. Also- it's funny you mention loc crushes b/c u were mine. I showed your pic to everyone like "my hair's gonna look like this". I only have 220+ locs and I'm happy i do cos THE RETIES!!!!!!!!!! OMG.
Only thing I can say fr having been loc’d for 3 years now is pls don’t bleach or dye your locs lol that’s my biggest tip!!! as well as doing your research because it’s honesty not for everyone and that’s ok too☺️
I’m at 11mo on my traditional loc journey and I’ll say these reasons are def applicable to any kind of locs. As far as where I thought mine would be by now maturity-wise, I still have a couple locs that are half coil, although my loose ends I thought would never loc due to my hair type pretty much have 🙌🏾 And I agree micros are probably a more versatile option - if you’re a person that even wants to style your hair. I’m not really AND I would not want to have to deal with the time required to do micro reties lol.
I'm really considering microlocs. I love being a loose natural but it really is stressing me out a bit. I have kinda longish 4c hair and single strand knots, breakage, knotting, painful detangling etc. I love the way my hair looks but as it gets longer I wonder if I can keep up with it. I am pretty impatient but when it comes to my hair I don't mind taking days taking care of it. My question is, do microlocs get a lot of knots/SSK/breakage and that kinda thing?
Very well explained. You are right about the process of maturing,I’ve been micro loced a little over 3 years and although they all look like they are mature,I still see some of them still going through a maturing process. These type of los take longer to mature then traditional locs which I had before but I will say I love my micro locs better than when I had traditional locs. Your hair is very beautiful
@@TyKaraAnn I know one day I will loc my hair but since my hair is on the fine side.... I’m worried about how they will look lol. Still thinking about what type I want. Yours are gorgeous and full!
There are A LOT of people who need to watch your video but unfortunately won't find it. I've been researching for a while now ...over a year...and have come across some YT'ers that were bold enough to post loc journey vids...but should not have. But I still found myself watching so that I know what NOT to do!🤦🏾♀️🙅🏾♀️ I'm still growing my hair out with plans to DIY micro locs. You are NOT one of those people, Tykara Ann! 😁😆 I absolutely love your videos and have learned a lot from you and mom. I'm still waiting on a video about your grandmother's journey, tho! 😝😉
I started my microloc journey AGAIN. I missed my curls so I took them out but I instantly regretted it and loc’d my hair back after a month. Yours are beautiful and I’m excited to start my loc journey again.
I'm interested in getting microlocs and that's what I'm worried about. I have perfect tiny curls and I love them but my mother is trying to convince me to have the ends out so that I can still have my curls.
@@promisedove with that be very careful, that exposed hair at the end may become very brittle. I’ve done it for the same reason with one of my smaller locs but because it’s not in a uniform like the rest, it’s too exposed. I’m still keeping it, too attached to my curls lol Good luck!
I just want to say, you have a strong resemblance to “the bam”, Bambi. You’re so pretty! And so is your hair. This will be my 3rd and last set of locks, so ready to start. ❤️
Literally just finished twisting my entire head yesterday when this video popped up on my suggestions. But you just gave me 5 great reasons on why it was the best decision for me, thank you!
Thank you for all of the helpful tips. I’m considering micro locs. I’ve heard people say you don’t need to moisturize. I can’t get my head around that concept, coming from being natural for about 7 years. Do you moisturize? Why or why not?
Sooo i don’t have locs but i install them (suuuuper small mini twists) and i leave them in 4-6 weeks…and it’s not only made my hair grow soooo much, but all the same things apply.
Thanks for this video. About how long does it take to do your retie, and how often do you do it? I'm thinking to transition from loose natural to micro locs
Gosh I've missed you!!!!!!!!!! Love your facial expressions haha...and yes, yours may take 2 more years to be fully locked, sorry. I think mine may be loced within a year or a yr and a half but we'll see after Sept ;-)
Your locs are beautiful! I'm going to start my micro loc in September I go for a consulting September 3rd I had instant locs 7mon ago and boy yo ant kidding about that ugly days but it's different with others
Me too but I went for it bc I was tired of detangling for what seemed like hours. I was very happy with my decision after my first wash one week post my diy 2 strand twists install. The peace of mind and freedom is priceless. Do it! ❤️
U it at gonna look fabulous! I had traditional locs for 5 years then combed them out and started microlocs and I love them! 4 years in, I’m completely in love with my hair!!
Everyone’s locs look different ofc, but Queen Eleem on RU-vid started with 4c hair. You can also search by density to get a vague idea of how the beginning of the journey may look
I have 4c hair and I decided to microloc my hair 3 yrs ago and I love it. Kinkier hair will loc more easily and looks amazing locd. I finally have freedom with no more long detangling sessions.
I thank you for your mature advice..you.look really young but is very informative and clear about your facts. You and your hair is beautiful. My daughter is 26 and she's thinking about locs and so am I..
Love your locs! And yess there is nothing dreadful about our locs!! 😂 And most newbies can probably comb out within a year maybe ..possibly i combed out 3 year set (grueling tho) lol but 1 year may be better if they change their mind 😅
@@TyKaraAnn yeah. I'm thinking about it heavily but a lot of people don't want me to get locs cuz I have a lot of hair and they like it. So I'm trying to work on that confidence like you said so I can get to a place where I don't care what they think.
Your hair is beautiful. I wore traditional locs for 5 years but I have very curly tangly hair and my frizz was like no other. I always admire people who have a more coarse texture and their locs always look nice and neat
Me personally I’m tired of doing my hair every day, I’ve done the fade already. I think, I’ll get a Mohawk first, and then let it grow out and then get either micro or sister locs in a year or two
The only reason I won't get microlcs is because I want to straighten my hair every once in a while. Other than that I would have them, yours are BEAUTIFUL!
I remember when you and your mom first did them. Everytime I think of doing mine like that I think of you. So when I fully make up my mind you will always be my motivation 😍😍😍
I like this, you were very accurate. Patience is the keyword with locs & my inspiration came from you because I didn't know if I should loc yet but. when I seen your locs, I was thinking to myself they look so versatile. Great video and your locs are growing beautifully.
I noticed that too. I also noticed that guys are not into “fussing” with their hair as much as women so locs are a natural alternative to having a fade or a small Afro and they don’t have to worry about getting braids and another bonus is it is a lot easier to re-twist their own hair if they really wanted to versus braiding their own hair or constantly finding someone to braid it for them.
If you have small children, special needs kids, or several heads of natural hair to care for ; think long before choosing micros!!! I ended up picking out 3 year old sisterlocs after my daughter's hair started growing long.
Personally, I think that locs are unique to each person. Also, I understand that some want things they can't afford or don't want to spend the money on. I also think that practice makes perfect. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
This was truly informative. I am 3 months in and everything you just pointed out is something I've whined/joked/complained about. I am still going to ride it out, but it really is something to not take lightly.
Your hair is gorgeous! Great video of what you can expect( or shouldn’t expect)! I have said that also about y do they refer to their hair as “dread locs”, and then some or even a lot of ppl even refer to their hair as “dreads” which is worst! Currently I’m looking for a sisterlocks consultant . I’m both excited and apprehensive but I want to give this look a try because sisterlocks and microlocks are so beautiful!!
