Great advice! I resigned my job two years ago. I felt guilty about leaving the team and letting them down. I accepted their small counter offer and stayed. Over the next two years I have the regretted that decision and missing out on the job I was going to move too. My mental performance at the job has suffered and basically I "quit" but stayed. Thankfully I am ready to move forward again now and won't make that mistake again.
Do NOT do a exit interview. They WILL hold it against you and if the company really cared, they would have at least TRIED to put things right in the first place
Thank you for these simple tips, they have helped. I submitted my resignation today and I'm feeling lots of guilt, I know when I go in on Monday , they will push very hard for me to stay, but its just not possible because the new job I have accepted is so much better, more $$, working from home, 24 hour healthclub onsite and I live right next door to the headquarters PLUS 25 days of PTO per year starting your FIRST Year, no way my current employer can beat that!
People have died at my work and then they just clear the desk for the new person to start.... Our colleagues might care if you leave. But the system will replace you. And that's all fine.
Businesses do feel guilty about having to let people go - it's incredibly difficult to let people go. Please don't frame it as all businesses are cold and heartless - that's not the case.
Thank you very much indeed! 😊 Great advice, and it has helped me so much. Resignation going in this evening, but I've been squirming at the thought. You gave me confidence.
Listen to the Advice in this video! I accepted a countereoffer in june and I'm putting in my two weeks notice this Friday. I am so miserable at my job and today i realized nothing is going to change. Its only going to get worse. This realization was like the lights coming on ro reveal all mu excuses for staying, prolly pleasing, feeling obligated, fear of tye unknown, health benefits, fear of the world unknown, looming recession, etc
I've worked for the same company for nearly 14 years. I've just now decided I want to move on somewhere else (ive got an interview next week). The only thing is Im not sure how much notice I'm supposed to give.
