THE LIST:
1. Most people are new to collecting
People feel like they can never get the shoes they want or the hype limited releases.
2. The price of shoes keeps going up
Some people can’t afford or don’t want to spend that much money of a pair of shoes that they like so they feel like their collection isn’t as dope because they have to settle for alternative options like a different colorways or buying reps.
3. No matter how many shoes we have we still want more
Collectors like to collect. Typically that means completing sets or buying things from the past that they had or wanted as child. We can never get enough, so we feel like we're slacking.
4. A lot of people care about presentation
So that means you have to buy containers or other cool looking display items to showcase your collection, weather that may be for your friends and family, your own satisfaction, organization, or for someone like me who creates content or just simply likes to have a nice setup. A collector that may want these types of things could feel down about their collection because it doesn't meet their standard for their display.
5. Comparison is the killer of joy
Stop being so worried about what everyone else has in their collections. There’s plenty of shoes out there and we all get it in our own ways. Specially comparing to older collectors like myself who’ve been in the game for over 15 years now and has met a lot of people along the way.

I drank heavily for 20 yrs after I played ball in college but always wanted to start collecting sneakers because I fell in love with them since I was little. Now that I've been sober for 4 years, I saved for almost the entire 4 yrs before getting started with my collection. I traded a life threatening addiction for an addiction that I truly love and will continue to do until I pass. Collecting sneakers is something that everyone can afford because of used shoes or gr,s. What it did more than anything was it taught me how to save money but most of all, believe it or not, it saved my life. There was no way that I could have done both.

I don’t think many people understand that it takes a while to build up a collection…years.A true colector loves the entire process which includes patients,I just let go of 50 plus pairs to reduce to nothing but grails.Unfortunately the game is not the same,if your not having fun,don’t do it.

It’s crazy I’ve been collecting shoes on and off for about 7 years and I just now learned what a B grade was from your videos, I learned what a rep was from your videos. So just because I’ve been doing it for a while there’s still much I need to learn and I have no problem learning. I love all the points you made. People think their collection is trash because they don’t have as much as somebody they seen on IG, your collection is fire because it’s YOURS and YOU worked hard for it. Great video, thanks!

Great video DJ. I’m an old head sneaker collector and I felt everything you said. Talk your ish. These new collectors need the info and some old collectors can use some new tips. Appreciate the great content and great info. 1.) I love that I got 1-14, 17, 18 silhouettes that Jordan played in. 2.) I love I got an air max collection( 90’s, 95’s, 97’s and etc. 3.) I love I got a nice amount of LeBrons, a few Kobe’s, and KD’s in the collection too.

My 3 reason I love my collection: 1) I bought all of them myself 2) I’ve hardly purchased any pairs for over retail and am proud to say so 3) I have a good variety of brands and silhouettes

DJ , you touched on it in this video. I am collecting the sneakers from my childhood that at the time , I either couldn't afford them or didn't want to get jacked for them .I am from the south side of Chicago and we all idolized Jordan and the Bulls. But those less fortunate people would not let you be great and would do anything to get their hands on on your or any fresh kicks. That's why I love my collection.

Bro , I came up in the ghetto . My dad used to buy me sneakers from Pathmark and Food town. We were truly poor. Never had it to get the suede Puma basket. I've been a shoe enthusiast since 1992. My first pair of Mike's I bought myself were the "Dark Charcoal" Air Jordan 7. And since then I've grown and my collection has grown. I'm now 53yrs old and STILL love/rock my Jordan's. The best part of it all, is I DON'T have everything everyone else has, but I do have such gems alot don't have, like the "Beijing" 6's, or both "Trophyroom" 23's. I love the the culture, but the reselling part, has put a bad mark on it, NOT FROM THE ACTUAL RESELLING, just the price gouging ON GR's. But it is, what it is. My love will endure for sneakers

Just started my collection last yr. I love new balance and would love to make a Yt channel about them but I haven't been the most hands on with doing it. I love my collection because 1. It's uniqe and with a brand like new balance vs evryone collections of Js and yeezys its different but relevant. 2. I absolutely love what new balance offers in their shoes as far as quality and style. 3. I like when ppl are shocked that the new balance I wear are cool to them. Much love DNA!!! I love my sneaker collection (mostly Jordan 1 lows, mids and highs) because it’s what I like, regardless of hype. I have a couple hype shoes, a ma maniere 3’s and off white Muslin 5’s but most of them I have I wear constantly and that’s why I love it so much!

the biggest thing for me is appreciation of my own collection, i finally am proud after buying, wearing, and selling 100 shoes im finally happy with my 40 pairs, i only have 6 shoes i've actually spent over $200 on in my 40 pairs, being able to trade will get you farther than you think. be proud of what you got bc nobody's collection is the same, and that's what makes sneakers great

Man, this vídeo hit me really bad, I love it. I’ve always loved shoes but could never afford them till now. I started my collection last year and I have over 80 snkrs(most of them Dunks and SB’s❤️) and I am so so proud of every single pair that I’ve been able to cop, because they all mean everything to me. 1.) I love that I have multiple nostalgic pairs from my childhood that I couldn’t get (Raging Bull 5s, Bel-Air 5s, Flint 13s, Playoff 12s). 2.) I love that I have some sought after collabs in my collection (CLOT Terracotta 14 Lows, SOCIAL STATUS Strawberry Milk Dunks). 3.) I love that I still have alot of room to grow. I just started collecting Jordan 11s, it was a shoe I loved as a kid but now that I’m an adult I can afford. I go after ever draw I can and if I hit I trade them on tradeblock for a pair of 11s. Sometimes it’s takes 2 shoes to the get the pair I want but it works and that’s all that matters.

Also, I’d say to buy what you like and not just following the hype. Now will you like some of the more hyped shoes? Yes! But If you like that “brick”, then buy it! Rule of thumb, always buy what YOU like and not for others approval. The beauty of the shoe game is the diversity of shoes that people collect. If we all bought nothing but the hyped shoes, it’ll be a pretty boring space.

3 reasons why?? 🙂 1. Every shoe tell's a story of where I got it from. ( never bought a Jordan..Retail) and now on my 59th pair🤗🥳 2. The hunt on getting a gem 💎 under $40 from a seller. 3. The display at home and on foot🧐🤯 I found 2 shoe racks that display 30 pairs each for 25 bucks..I offered 20 and she was happy to just get rid of em. And I try to wear a different shoe everyday:) I've only been collecting for 7 months and have came so far so this video makes me really happy 😊 If you don't have the money to get the most expensive J's remember TRADING was once how we got anything. Also people will sell something that has been sitting in a closet just to get rid of it.. take advantage and hunt!

The things you want doesn’t happen over night. It takes time, patient, & hard work. Plus may I add, have no shame in rocking AJ1 Mids. They’re affordable, decent quality, & lots of fire 🔥 colorway. Or start off collecting the classic Air Force 1, very easy to get & very affordable. Great stepping stone to get you experience & into the game. 👍

This video is great. Awesome work, bro. Best thing I ever did was downsize my collection back in 2020. I probably had close to 300 pairs at my highest, but a lot of those pairs were GRs (lots of random air max 87/90/95s and retro J’s) and a whole bunch I never even wore and were still DS. I decided to donate a bunch of the gently used pairs, and then sold a whole bunch on GOAT/SX/eBay. Using the $$ I got from selling those I grabbed pairs I wanted, regardless of price (obviously within reason, but also def some over $1k) and also a bunch of older pairs I always wanted but never got. So basically for me, what made/makes me happy is quality > quantity. My collection is now right around 100 total pairs and I love em.

I’m 34 and I’ve been collecting since the mid ‘90s , still have a bunch of og Jordan’s too bad they al don’t fit me since I grew out of them. Anything from 02 and back I just have to collect for the nostalgia, since they don’t fit anymore. We in the same game do it for the love of the game, don’t chase hype. I have found your advice on purchases to be sound. I'm not a collector im just like having nice shoes on my feet. I have a few pair that are for the nice occasions and I have daily ones. There not rare but I have the 6 rings last shot. They fit me well and go with my style well. Thats how I choose my shoes and your review or advice on them. I'll hang on to every non daily shoe I buy (5 for now) maybe my 11 year old would want them when I die. Thier value doesn't play into my decisions, I wanna die with clean and badass shoes on my feet.

I love my sneaker collection because: 1) The looks and outfits I can put together 2) My grails that looks amazing while on display and 3) Pairs I actually like or I know I can work with, especially customizing with lace swaps to add more fire and separate from the rest.

I’m not really a shoe collector, my mom got my first pair in 91 & 92 after high school got third on my own two pair of 12 blue white and flu game. I really didn’t buy a shoe I already had before thought it made no sense. Plus they only make retros 1- 14 anyway.

One thing I always say is that You don’t every sneaker that drop.. sneakers come n go 😂 3 reasons I love my collection: 1- most shoe as a story. Whether it be how I copped or the story behind the design 2- versatile! I got Jordan’s, Air Maxes, Runners, Yeezys, etc 3- shiittt I got some heat 😂

Im still learning the sneaker game in dept more, you right about trading for shoes I traded Univesity 4s and Lighting 4s (got both for retail btw) for A Ma Maniere 3s which is one of my grails! I never used to trade for shoes but I learned that its a lot better to do and its easy on the pocket and something I should've done WAY more

What I love to do (for most of my pick-ups, really) is to compare prices and check how much they go for on Stock-X or GOAT and calculate how much you would profit if you were to sell them on another platform. Or if you’re just planning on keeping them yourself. My point is if you see some shoes that you like that someone’s selling for $250 but you don’t wanna spend that much, go to OfferUp or eBay because there’s a 95% chance someone has that same exact pair, in deadstock condition that’s letting em go for $200-220. Just an example, but you can save loads of money overtime with the concept 💯

I think the best advice here is focus. Focus on the set of shoes you love. For me it's the OG 1 highs. I'm focusing on the passion for the originals and I'm having fun taking my time on the hunt! 💯 Seeing others' passion for other shoes is cool, but it doesn't change my focus. 💯

Great video, as an older collector in the game I always tell people dont follow the hype and get your finances straight before diving deep in the game. You don't gotta make a lot to be into shoes but you shouldn't spend your mortgage on shoes.

I’m 2 year in after a 25 year break and I’ve made every mistake and hit it out the park. My best advice is if you can buy the largest GS size that has some hype and trade for what you want. GS I way cheaper retail and are going to gain you $30-$100 in trade value like clockwork. If you can buy what you want retail AND the largest GS size and sell that GS size to a shop. Spend 300, get your kicks and $230 back in hand. Sometimes more.
