In this video, I provide different aspects of what to expect with new dentures and how to process the changes you will experience. Sharing with you some experiences you can expect.
Thank you Marie Elena, I had most of my teeth extracted three days ago and have had dentures made for immediate fit. Though I realise it’s just one of life’s things, I’m lamenting the fact that, as a very young 60 yo, I no longer have a mouth full of my own teeth. Your words have helped me a lot in dealing with my esteem issues, and much of your other advice has been very helpful also. Best wishes to you, and thanks for sharing on your not-so-crappy-as-you-think channel. 👍 Bruce, Canberra, Australia.
Marie: Not only is your smile beautiful, bit your manner is very beautiful! I came expecting lots of examples of what to do etc (I am 2days into this adventure) and somehow I come out feeling so good! I am learning to love health care worker.! Besides my mouth situation I am also dealing with cancer and have spent quite a bit of time, recently, in the company of health care workers, and they have been angels with great humor! I was feeling down and yours was the first video I came to. Thank you so much!
I just had my full upper teeth denture this afternoon i was so devastated of the uncomfort that i felt, i started to suspect that my dentist had a mistake...so i watched youtube videos about new denture wearers...and i thank God to what i've watched...and this video completely turn my worries away...thank you so much for being a good instrument God uses....God bless...
On December 22, 2023 I had my remaining 6 top teeth removed and immediate top denture put in. I wore them 24 hours a day until the 26th(dentist was gone due to holiday. No problem talking with them in, very little swelling lots of pain. Lots of mashed potatoes. Any way, the dentist told me to leave them out unless we were going out somewhere. Finally woke up this morning the sore spots are almost gone. Going to start eating(or try to) regular food this weekend. I love my dentist and trust his advice. He's now working to save my lower 13 teeth and and getting partials for the bottom. Thank you for this video. It's the best one I've watched.
I've had full dentures since I was 27. (I'm 75). I have never regretted it. My first set was from one of those billboard advertisers and, I now realize, fit "ok" and I wore them for 18 years. When they finally wore out I went to a good orthodontist and found out how dentures SHOULD feel. I replaced them after 13 years and am still delighted. Other than a sore spot now and then, I've never had any trouble with them and I've never used adhesives. I only take them out to clean them, so I wear them pretty much 24 hours a day. My dentist says I should take them out more, but...I don't. I know I've been lucky, but the whole thing CAN be a good experience, so good luck to anyone about to embark!
U give me hope I m 43 just gotten the process started ..i had fee teeth pulled yesterday .im eventually going to have a denture I m terrified but after seeing this I feel better
Thank you for this video. I'm 56 and have always had great teeth. But I took a medication that took all the calcium out of my body. It rotted my teeth. I have so many broken ones now. I have to get dentures. I'm scared to death. I'm a nurse and I still wear my mask because of my teeth. I go in July to get a full set of dentures. I cried watching your video. Because it is all so true. Especially the emotions I'm going through right now. Thank you
Thank you for this video!!!! ❤ I just got my dentures and I'm so discouraged so I you tubed videos about people and getting dentures. Came across this video and such a blessing you are. I needed to hear this. ❤❤❤
thank you for the helpful advice,im getting my dentures in two weeks time,im anxious yet exited at the thought of being able to smile and get my confidence back,i know it will probably take time, but finding your video has answered so many of my questions,im feeling more prepared,so thank you
I am 66 yrs old and am about to get my dentures. I've been watching a lot of RU-vid and unfortunately, the first ones were about how having implants are better, that dentures were going to be a pain in the ass, and all the things that could go wrong. So it was so wonderful to run across your video. It calmed a lot of my anxiety and gave me hope. So - thank you for that! P.S. You DO have a beautiful smile!
I'm 75 and I can't tell you how happy I was to see this video. I'm beginning to have loss of upper teeth. SCARED TO DEATH of the process of getting dentures. You really helped me with being more comfortable with the process. I'm having one more tooth extracted Tuesday. After that, I have a decision to make about going forward. I'm sorry I didn't catch the reason why a young needs a denture. But I'll listen again. I'm enjoying hearing your process. It's a big scary decision. Thank you for your honesty and I'm gonna look for your other videos. Great job!
What a blessing this video is to me right now Marie!!! After years of pain and unconfident smiles, I’m on the verge of committing to dentures but I’m still feeling very nervous about the process. The story at the end about your patient complementing your smile made me tear up. I hope that I can feel as confident and positive as you one day✨! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
I had full extractions at the end of January and chose to not get immediate dentures. I wanted to heal properly before putting dentures in, and I definitely don't regret it! I figured since we have to wear masks right now anyways nobody would even notice :) I finally got my full set last week and tonight I am finally brave enough to try and eat something lol! Fingers crossed, its kind of scary at this point! But your video definitely made me feel better about everything, so thank you!!
@@ACMommy26 i hot all mine out 2 weeks ago and i feel better than i have n years. Im hungry though! Lol what kind of foods did u eat when u wr eaiting for ur denture?
a friend of mine said he sang to music all day for days to relearn how to talk. he said it showed him what he could and couldn't annunciate. and it was fun. so that's a great idea.
I had 22 teeth extracted in one hour due to complications arising from diabetes. My dentist advised me to go 'toothless' for 3 months for an even heal gum-line and as frustrating as it was, it worked out for me. I now have a full set of dentures that more or less fit OK and will get better in time. I no longer dribble when I drink. My pronunciation of certain letters is slowly changing, but I find eating a bit of a challenge, opting to sometimes remove my dentures and manage without. Thank you for your advice, I found your upload very helpful and will use it daily to continue my journey with dentures 👌🏻🇬🇧
I'm so glad you and others share their experience. I lost my last molar in November and last Tuesday I was getting fitted for a lower partial denture. And there are all these folks that are sharing their pains and struggles with the first few weeks with a new "normal".
The best feeling is to not have to think or worry about smiling. I used to have beautiful teeth until my gums & bone loss began to really be evident. The past 5 years I have hidden mostly. I am a soap maker and I do markets so it was really difficult to show up and feel confident. I’m day 5 post op and immediate dentures and though I’m sore and feeling unsure sometimes …I know that time will pass and I will get used to this. I already want to show the world my smile again and I am grateful as I know that hiding myself hadn’t been good for my livelihood. Im really good at my job and now I can really show up with a bright smile to go with the confidence in my products.
If you don't like having dentures remember this.......I read that George Washington had dentures made of wood.......and held them in with pine gum. I'm sure that was so fun!
Such a beautiful help to 88 year old with new top dentures not knowing what to do or expect!thanks for your kind words and encouragement! Barbara Farrell new admirer; Shared video with. My dentist to hsve him share 7:02 with patients! 😅
I am sure this is an older video, but it was very good. This is day 2 (after extractions uppers only). You make me feel so much better, you seem to be a very lovely person. Thank you very much for your advice.
Thank you this is my first day with dentures and I’ve watched about 15 different dentures for beginners videos and came upon yours and you 100% said everything I wanted and needed to hear going down this new path and what you said was straight to point and made since thanks a lot and GOD BLESS
Thank you Marie for this video. I am still in the process of research and haven't had any work done yet. This has been very informative. Especially the part about not Being embarrassed to ask your dentist to make adjustments or whatever as many times as you need them. Your right on about it being your money and his reputation. I hope i can speak highly of my dentist . Again great video. And you do have a great smile.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video explaining right to the point of what to expect I’ve been without teeth for four months and my uppers and partial have finally come in and this has eased my mind a lot.
Where were you when I began my process!! Oh yeah- right here!! Lol! I had my last 19 teeth removed in March of 2022 buy didn't get any dentures at all until August of 2022! I had no idea it would take that long and every time I tried to ask my dentist questions she(and her staff) acted like it was all a secret they couldn't share! I learned how to eat and speak again without any teeth. Then when I finally got my dentures I had to relearn all over again! In fact to this day I have not been able to eat at all with them. I can drink with a straw but thats about all I can do and I've had them for 8 months now. I tried to swallow a small pill one time and almost choked to death! I am very thankful you've put this information on YT! I just wish I had of found you sooner!! Thank you!
I’m in the process of getting the rest of my teeth out and getting new ones I’m super excited but nervous at the same time so seeing this video is definitely helpful!
I am so glad!! You know, I had such a wonderful, kind, and informative DDS. He sat me down and explained everything I should expect the first 6 months to a year. It helped so much knowing what to expect and how my personal progress was going compared to where I should be. Please, contact me if you have any questions. I would love to see pics too!
I'm a newbie with immediate dentures. I'm learning more on RU-vid than my dentist lol.. You're real yet fun ha.. I could use all the advice u can offer 🙂
New subscriber. So happy I found your channel and this community. I had what was left of my top teeth pulled 9/2021, no dentures because I wanted to heal and wearing masks made that easy. Had 10 bottom teeth at the time. Fast forward still no dentures had 6 bottom teeth pulled 1/2024. I just got my top dentures and bottom partials 5/22/24. I'm taking your advice on the tongue twisters. I love my smile but hate slurring my words. Any other advice would be appreciated !! I'm going to be binge watching all your videos and reading the comments . I want to Thank everyone for sharing your experiences and knowledge.
I just went to the dentist today and I have a gum disease and my top teeth have to be removed and I will be wearing a top denture I am so scared and I thank you for giving me the courage to do this
Thank you for the great advice. I’m only 5 days in with my new look. And watching your video on the 5 things hit all the issues I’m facing. I new going in that it was going to be a long road to normalcy. But I had no idea of the challenges. This video definitely gave me some insight and confidence.
The dentist I had sucked! Over 20 k and I still can't wear my bottoms and have always used glue on the top. Miserable experience....biggest regret of my life was going to her
I just had my teeth removed a month ago, and I go in a week from now to have impressions made.ive healed remarkably fast. I'm really hopeful about the process...but terrified at learning to talk or eat. I've got a great of them flying out when I'm talking to someone lol
Just got my dentures about 2 weeks ago. The upper is doing well the bottoms not so much. But I will keep doing what needs to be done I am starting to learn to speak and eat. I use denture glue so that the bottoms are stable thanks for the information .
“No one can tell you what you should want and what you should like.” This made me want to cry….I’ve spent many years with only 3 teeth on my upper and I’m day 3 into my immediate upper denture and although I know it’s so early and there’s swelling and there’s still so much healing to happen…my front two teeth were created and are crooked. I’ve been trying to force myself to be appreciative because I don’t like to complain or be so negative but I’ve dreamed for so long to have my smile back! I’m planning on calling my dentist tomorrow morning, really hoping we can start talking about getting another fit for another pair of immediate dentures because if I’m gonna be with these dentures for a while before my permanents…I want to atleast be happy and comfortable with my smile 😔💗
I so hear you!!! My first set of upper denture, just fell out 😢… I basically had to wait 3 Weeks for the next set, unfortunately they may fit better with adhesive, but I look like a fool, I am so disappointed, they are toooooooo white and all of a sudden I have buck teeth! I have decided not to wear them and wear a mask instead (I hate wearing masks) this should tell you how much I hate my dentures. I have decided that I am going to contact my dentist tomorrow!! There is no way that I can wear hat they have given me for the next 9 weeks
Thanks for the suggestions. I just today got my full dentures. My dentist has told me that it's an adjustment, it will take some time to get use to them. It is hard, I tried to eat for the first time, and had to remove them. I'm going to stay after it, even if only gradually at first. I really like the look of them, they did an excellent job on how they look. I go back tomorrow for any adjustments, then again in a week or two. Thanks,
So glad to hear this love!!! You can find quite a few "young" people like yourself discussing their dentures here on RU-vid. I promise life is so much bigger than this and you shall overcome!! Hit me up anytime!
Thank you so much for all your tips. I just got my upper partial put in and struggling to talk and swallow. your tips are so helpful and I love your animation. don't feel bad about it. It's expressive and adds to what you are saying. be animated and be proud of it!
I had full extractions June 14,2023. And immediately same day my healing set of dentures. All you have said about the process is absolutely true. At one point I was regretting that I did this. But now I am really starting to love them and how I look. Still working on talking and smiling and eating/chewing. One question: Do you take them out at night? Do or do not sleep with them in. (Of course other than those first three days). Thanks Sherrill
I totally enjoyed your videos and all the information and tips you r giving. I will be getting all my teeth extracted to get full upper and lower dentures. Did you have any issues with gagging or fullness in your mouth this is what I’m most concerned about. Also with the swelling using cold packs should help I hope. Thank you for sharing this is wonderful to kinteract with someone who has been thru this. I didn’t even think of all the issues you discussed. Thank you thank you.❤
Great video, I get my top denture in ten days, and I'm a bit apprehensive about them fitting as I have had part dentures before and they made me gag, but I have been without my top teeth for 3 months. Thanks for the words of wisdom I will remember what so said and be kind to myself and have patients.
Read a book out loud to hear yourself speak. This is a great informative video I have watch for two months UTube videos from the Denture community before my extractions they inspired me into what I set out to do and I am happy the choice I made it will be a journey but in life nothing is easy.
Marie is my kind of woman. TACOS! I just got my teeth extracted and wearing these dentures for 2 weeks now. I’ve been dying for some tacos! My dental office is awesome too. They’ve already made adjustments for me due to high spots or whatever that cause what I refer to as blisters and such. I was in the Army for 25 years so I got of think of my dentures like breaking in a new pair of boots.
Very Good Advice & Very Helpful 😁 Sometimes you feel like taking the new dentures out as my mouth is trying to get use to them but I will persist after your advice and knowing I might smile again and there are people worse off than me missing teeth but I find it hard to eat with and that’s when I say will I or won’t I take them out thinking about Elmer Fudd and that Scwewy Wabbit ! I look back on my Mum’s dentures and she has had them all her life and never complained once and I could not tell Mum has dentures. Great and Informative But what is NORMAL !!! 🙏😁🇦🇺💐
Got my parcel on bottom very comfortable..the tops all teeth just pulled waiting till tommarow to where them they keep falling and making me bleed so tommarrow hopefully fitting better when healed
I can relate to your testimony as I am going back in a couple of days for my new dentures. I’m asking you if you use an adhesive, if so, what works best? I’m having trouble with the adhesive leaking into my mouth through out the day. I’m a hairdresser and I do a lot of color. I have to wear gloves. Sometimes it’ll form a white crust on my lips😮. It’s embarrassing as I can’t touch my mouth because of the color on my gloves🙄. I’ve tried everything out there on the market to no avail 😢 I do look at RU-vid to see what other denture wearers like best. Please help me find one that really works. Thank you honey. From Darcy in New Orleans 😘
Thank you for this video it's much better then the things I've heard on tic tok tomorrow is my eday and I am terrified 😨 I've always been scared of the dentist that's why I'm in this mess.. I hope my dentist is as good as yours
I love the way you explain about everything, that help me soooooooo much, I'm on my 11/2 week on my temporary dentures & my gums are so tender when l try to put them on , l can't wait to be able to talk or eat without them falling or moving or hurting my gums when putting the dentures, thx, again God Bless ♥️ ⚘
Hang in there. It will only get better. I found that the more I kept them in, the better my mouth healed. Weird but true. That is what my DDS recommended as well. Best of luck!
Hi again I've been putting on my temporary dentures but l think l have a sore on my bottom gum and l don't know what to do cause it hurts, and I don't have my app back until the 27th of this month 😔 I've try to go back to the Dr, & they said they'll call me if their a opening 😔 it's horrible, l hope you can tell me what can I do besides washing my mouth with salt water 😪⚘
@@trindatrejo7332 I'm sorry. You can remove your dentures to give your gums a break. Use Orajel, Ibuprofen for swelling and pain (if you are allowed to take), remove your dentures to stop the friction, and yes, 1 tsp salt to a glass of water to reduce friction. Also, try popsicles without your dentures. Did you irritate your gums with maybe a piece of food while eating? Is this because you have pressure or friction from the denture itself? In this case, take them out and let your gums rest. Unless there are adjustments to be made, gums should heal in about 7 - 10 days. Make sure you keep them clean and soak them at night. Best of luck
@@marieelena6026 thx you so much I've feeling a little bit better but still my gum still hurts, but not as much their is a space on my bottom dentures that still hurts pretty bad on the back, but l have a app this 27th @ 1:00 hopefully they will help me. Thx for everything ❤
Thank you ! Omg! I had my teeth removed 2 weeks ago and still so sore… I’m not getting temporaries, next week I go for impressions. Oh the shame, guilt, depression was debilitating until I found you and that gorgeous smile! You, my new friend, have made such a huge difference. I sincerely thank you for your honesty. I’ve told maybe 2 people about this ( who else could be thankful for this darn mask mandate) because I felt ashamed like I did something wrong. It’s the stigma I guess. Honestly, I haven’t felt this hopeful since this process started. A million thanks!
Hi Marie, great video. In the future I will be getting dentures and I am extremely nervous about it!!! For one thing, I am battling a stigma in my mind that dentures are for older people. I know that's not true because I've seen teenagers with dentures but I'm still fighting that stigma. I also worry that I won't be able to wear dentures due to a gag reflex I have. And even if I get use to them, I'm also bummed about possibly having to give up some of my favorite foods. So I've been on an emotional roller-coaster for the last few weeks you might say!
I might have to get full dentures soon too but also have a terrible gag reflex. It stopped me from wearing a retainer after I had my braces out as a kid. I just couldn't deal with all that stuff in my mouth. Can I ask how you are doing now? Did you have it done and how is wearing dentures now?
@@Bossmanrocks After going through a lot of feelings, I held my nose, took the plunge, and got full dentures. It's been a long journey with a lot of emotions but looking back, I can honestly say that it was one of the best decisions of my life! I've had my permanents now for about 6 months and they fit wonderfully with no gag reflex. Before that, I had temps for about 9 months, took a little longer with them because I wanted to make sure my gums were done shrinking. I'm so glad I waited because now I have a pretty good fit with my permanents! One thing that really helped me decide is, I told my dentist about my concerns with my gag reflex. He was examining my mouth and he put his finger on the roof of my throat approximately the depth of where my upper plate would go, and he ask me how that felt? I didn't feel the urge to gag whatsoever! Now if you are going to get temps, they will make your mouth feel full because it's a foreign object in your mouth. I had braces too, so I fully understand. It took me about 2-3 weeks to adjust to my temps and I put myself on a smooth diet, so it didn't feel like I was going to choke. It was rough at times but now with my permanents, I can eat like I used to. I couldn't have made it through this experience without God and my loving wife. If you would like any more information, I'm happy to help. 😀
Hello Marie I just got mines last week only thing for now that I don't like is I haven't had any real food for a week however I have had people tell me that they look great lol I'm so hungry thank you for the positive information
You are WELCOME! Ok... I was so hungry that a few weeks into it, I bought several REAL street tacos and put them in a blender. Weird a$$ texture but they taste the same! Thank GAWD! Also, I ate a lot of mashed potatoes, yogurt, and smoothies with NO straw!! how about an update!?
Ok….I had my final fitting this week, and new dentures will be in next week. I had full extraction at end of April. Here is my concern….the wax fittings never fit, They were big bulky, and I’m afraid that’s what will come in. What should I expect
I am a new denture wearer. Full set. What do u recommend for pain And irritation. I am also an award winning radio personality.. and my career is my voice. What can I do to get my radio voice back. Thank u. And thank u for this video. It helped so much. Ur awesome
Hello Marie, thank you for this video and assuring me (and others) that we can ask you questions. I have worn dentures (full upper and a partial lower) for over 20 years. I had the final seven lower teeth extracted in mid to end of April. On Thursday, August 1st, I received my new smile. Please help me to understand why I am having so much difficulty wearing my lower denture. They hurt and I am so discouraged. Yesterday, Monday, I did go into the dental office for a slight adjustment (where the pain was excruciating). At that time I did not want to do too much adjusting, in case it "was just me". So today, I am still struggling with the rubbing of the denture on (what I will call) my tongue thingy (please smile that lovely smile you have). Anyway, I was curious if you had difficulty adjusting to the placement of the lower denture on the tongue thingy (smile again, please). Thank you and yes, I will call my dentist tomorrow morning and ask to be seen again for some adjustment, I just want to be sure I make sense. You are so right about eating, speaking and for me even smiling hurts right now. I know that my facial muscles are getting a workout (just like going to the gym after months of slacking off). Thank you for reading my questions and I look forward to your reply. Your smile is beautiful.
Hello Linda. Thank you for reaching out. I am so very sorry about the pain you are going through. For me, I experienced pain that was sometimes excruciating due to the extraction areas still healing underneath my immediate dentures. If I understand correctly, you have an approximate length of 4 months of healing time between extractions and denture placement? If so, what do you think is causing the pain? Friction? Where and how are they painful? I believe that unless you have more healing to do and they are properly fitted, they should not be that painful to your gums. Your mouth and jaw muscles will become sore because you are using different muscles, but that should not be excruciating. Did your Dentist offer an explanation? PLEASE do not be discouraged. Be DILIGENT with finding the answers and questioning your Dentist. He/She should be your best source of encouragement and problem-solving. I too am rooting for you!!! Looking forward to hearing back!
Hi Marie, I've just received my upper dentures and bottom partial yesterday, November 10th. The bottom are fine, and the top I've went back and had adjustments twice now. My question is , " does the liner help with the pressure/pain of upper plate when chewing"? When I bite down, the denture pushes up into the inside of my mouth just under the nose like there is a gap between my gums and the inside of denture..and this is very uncomfortable. I'm headed out now to purchase all i need for my new life here and was just wondering about the liners you had mentioned. Thank you for your informative video!! Hope to hear back, Marty
Thank you for your question! Did you mention the gap with your dentist? He/she can address that with their in-house liner. Sounds like they may have done a poor impression. As far as the liner I mentioned, it worked to keep my dentures more secure and allowed me to eat better. That liner lasts soooooo long too! It may help with yours if the gap is not too big. BUT at an early stage of having dentures, you really should be addressing EVERYTHING with your dentist! Let me know if you have any further questions. Take care
My dentist was amazing. Did it in Mexico for a fracture of the price. My extractions went great. In less than 2 months I'm smiling with my new teeth. I'm learning to eat and smile without covering my face. Such a happy person. 😁😁😁
I had root canals and crowns for over 50 years. I had all my teeth extracted a month ago and implants for 6 on one for top and bottom. I was unable to wear my temps because of swelling. I went back for my temp dentures and they didn't fit. I tried. Ended up getting temps to fit my gums now. I developed bone spurs on both the top and bottom. 2 days in with my new temps. Have not tried to eat yet. Still on medical mouth wash so I can wear the temps. Thank you for your video.
How'd your dentist help you with your spirs? I'm 5wks into a full extraction and feel like I porcupine because of the bone spirs top and bottom. They make my first dentures uncomfortable.
@BillabongMonkeyplays I'm sorry. I just now found your reply. At this point. You are healed. The dentist ended up taking some out, and others came out on their own.
This is day one for me. Thanks for being here for us. My first dentures ever & failed. I wore them 2 hours and when it came time to eat dinner I removed them. My question is do we take them out at night when we sleep?
I do not take them out per the advice of my dentist. The longer I left them in, the faster I healed. My gums adjusted accordingly. It seems counter- productive but my Dentist was correct. How are you now?
Thank you so so much for all this information!!! I have a really important question I hope you an answer for me as soon. As possible, I wish I had seen this earlier in the day..... I'm day one post upper teeth being pulled!! They put in a temporary denture that I have to wear for the next 8 weeks before I get my permanent set....They told me to wear the temp night one which was last night & that on the 2nd night (right now) that I should NOT sleep with them in!! But I am so afraid that my bone structure will get messed up!!! Please tell me what you think??? I need help....
I wish I had seen this video before I got my dentures! This would have helped me so much as I knew nothing about what to expect & it was torture! The pain! The lisp! The eating struggles (of course I barely ate anything & didn't lose any weight, while my husband lost 12 pounds just watching me starve to death - this is not a joke - he really lost 12 pounds!). 3 months in & I'm still struggling with the bottoms being loose & bouncing up & down in the back, but every day things are getting easier. Still can't eat burritos or chew meat, but at least I can eat most things again! Thanks for this video! It helps me feel that what I'm going through is the same as everybody else! :)
