yess it's so luke, he wrote it by himself! they said everyone is getting their own part in this album so i can't wait to see all the different influences

It’s crazy because their solo projects, WFTTWTAF and superbloom, are like the marvel series you have to watch to understand the movie. like a side quest in an anime or a prequel that builds on the bigger picture and story. It’s really cool to see and frankly something we’ve never seen before from bands or artists.

"a few more souls on the bus now" is an analogy the band has used in the past. All 4 members are on a bus and people get on and get off as they go but the band always stays on. Now that Michael is married and Luke is engaged there are "a few more souls on the bus" with them. To me "treat my mind like an ashtray" is a reference to the fact he kinda lost his mind during quarantine. You're right about "close my eyes at 17", in 2013 the band started to becoming famous as they went on tour with One Direction. I love that Calum is doing backing vocals during the second half of the second verse. I agree, Luke is talking to his younger self but I also took it as him talking to the band. Luke is the only writer so it does makes sense this has WFTTWTAF vibes. Shoutout to Michael for producing banger after banger. I'm in love with this song ♥ PS: I personnally think this is definitely a 5SOS song, because we had 80s pop songs before like Talk Fast and Wildflower on Youngblood and CALM.

The bus lyric is a reference to when Calum said “We have an imaginary bus. It’s called The 5SOS Bus. We’re driving the bus, and people come on the bus and they get off the bus, but we’re the only ones that always stay on the bus. And it’s like, you idiot, these guys aren’t even best friends, they’re like brothers to me now, and they’re like family. So, where the band is, home is, really.” Talking about how fans come and go with time but the band will always stick together like brothers.

I definitely agree with you in thinking it about his younger self overall or even to the other boys when they were all younger. The introspective stuff is always my favourite too.
