It's funny how this basically makes the point that guilds are inherently impossible to maintain. xD And the reason for that, is because even if you really try your best manage the guild as a guild master, you can't do anything about the fact that people don't want to stay, or pull their own weight. Guilds are a group effort, and very few people understand the "group effort" part. xD

My guild is an Afk-offline type of guild. It's created for abandoned alts who just want to have the 15 min cd reduction and mount speed on their alts. The name is Offline Dudes.

I been an officer quite alot of times over the years, a co gm couple times for close friends and a gm to my own guild oy my older server. Went very well, definitely made couple mistakes as 1st time gm which have learn from from when get guild going again. But what I will say (and why not started guild up again yet) is that is you care about making a good guild it does require alot of time to put in (so if your working alot and alot other RL stuff it may be bit difficult). One thing you definitely need and helps alot (especially if you can't sit on wow all day everyday) is to get a solid team of officers, maybe even a 2nd in command (but a 2nd in command must be highly trusted player, like a very good friend for years in game). It is alot of work if you can put in the effort, but also very rewarding if your guildies really enjoy your guild and active at coming to events.

As someone who has made some successful groups in a few games, this video is very accurate not only to games but to real life companies as well. However you forgot to mention the people management bit. Which for new guild/tribe/kingdom makers, yes you do actually have to manage members. Which means giving people tasks and checking up on them frequently. Otherwise you run into the problem this video mentioned of basically having freeloaders or people who don’t help or do anything.

It's true and it helps you feel better when you join someone else's guild afterwards... and you are the most loyal guild member... Just let your leadership fail once again!

im no GM, but in my experience the success of a guild sometimes rely heavily on the experience the GM has with the game and its Content. i do believe it goes a long way to know the game well as a GM if you want your guild to be taken seriously and prosper

In WoW specifically, it might be good to start with a “community” and then later transition to a guild. (For reference, you can only be in one guild, but you can be in up to 50 communities.) Thus, people are much more likely to join as there’s no exclusivity to it, and thus there’ll be more people to join your events. Then, once you’ve become “known,” you can start getting exclusive members via a guild.

Never played any mmo except ffxi and I was deep, deep into that one. I ran 3 successful guilds with very specific endgame purposes at the same time and my leadership group was the same for all 3 groups. It was my 6 man very tight group of extremely well geared characters who did any 6 man event together. We had a 18 man group shell called fail who did limbus, a 33 man shell that did einherjar called einhergizerbunnies, and a 64 man dynamis group that I inherited from a different endgame group that I can’t remember the name of. All 3 guilds were extremely successful and most of the players who joined one wanted in them all. After a time we were turning people away from all guilds and you had to join the big one to have a chance at one of the smaller ones. Also I had a reputation of replacing people on the spot for not showing up without letting anyone know in advance. Someone in the dynamis shell, yo you still want in einherjar? If so we got an open spot and you have 15 minutes to get here come on x job. But what makes a successful shell? Successful raids… if you are doing an Odin every 2 weeks, full time extensions/full clears in lower dynamis zones and atleast one omega a week you are going to be getting gear very fast and you are going to be dealing with 10-20 applications for every one you accept. I also had a reputation for “fairness” in that I gave job priority to no one… if you want it and you bid the most dip, it is yours as long as you are within 10 levels of equipping it on any job.

Hey guys, for all you MMO'RPG players out there looking for your opinion on something. I am thinking of creating a completionist guild on wow. A guild focused on creating premades for achievement hunting, mount / pet / toy / transmog collecting. Do you think alot of players would be interested in this? because I know their are plenty of players out there who like collecting achievs, transmog, mount, pets etc, yet in my years on wow don't think I ever seen a guild who's main purpose was this.

I'm a Guild Master of not just 1 but 2 guilds of the same name but in two different servers, and let me tell you what will make you a successful guild, Help your members. And should you fail, Never disband, what you do is you make that your ultimate Bank Toon, pay someone to invite a lower alt, aka lol your Bank Toon, then you make that toon the GM and free up your main perhaps. Never disband all that space. And in my experience, be prepared to be dynamic, so you can offer multiple avenues, be a PvP/PvE RP Lvling, Dgn and Raid, Social Guild. That way there is something for everyone. Or start off doing what you know, then you can make people who want to lead groups in PvP or A Raid, maybe one group wants to PvE and RP, while another just wants to PvE and chat in groups. My first Guild started off being a kind of social Lvling Dgn guild, then it got to a point where people wanted to more so I picked a PvP Leader made them an officer and off they went organizing events same with PvE and so on. I had over 750 members, at any given hour there was always people on. Myself and toe Co-GM we lol got to just relax and play, the officers and Council Members were all able to run things and all get along as there was a zero drama policy. Rarely was there an issue that was brought to me, or something I had to deal with. But I also was involved if someone got the boot I wanted to know why. I had weekly letters come in from reports from my Guild leaders, it was a fabulous well oiled machine and looked like no end was in sight!!! The I had to pass GM off to one of my most trusted Councilman while I had to step away, which was supposed to be for a few months, that was in 2014, so from 2005-2014 I just recently came back 2024, and I found that my guild was dark and quiet. My original Toon was able to regain GM status but there was no one one!!! Like everyone just died. Their toons are all still in there, so it wasn't like they all left, so strange to see over 750 members all offline. And then I got a letter from a member that had stayed and stayed on playing all that time. You best believe I promised that guy. And then I got a whisper from another member on another server. The server I am on says HIGH in Red meaning there's a lot of people in that server, right? SW looks like Northernd Dala....empty. Hardly any one on for it to be High population. But on my former Guild members server OMG night and day!!! So I'm have to restart my first Guild, get it up and running again, and by some stupid luck was asked to start another guild on another server same name too... different tabards but that's what the people wanted so I suppose that's okay, like a different same club just a different charter state....I don't know. My point to all this is NEVER GIVE UP, And keep trying, be of help and be fair to your members and the guild will grow. I also HIGHLY recommend keeping a small note book, or big one, just to keep notes about members as there isn't a lot of note room in game and no one can delete your notes. For example keeping track of how many times a guild member has been warned to not do or say something before you demote them into the rank of Nothing before they feel that smooth toe cap on the tip of the boot as it kicks them in their soft valley. Also having a recruiting Day, once a week for an hour helps build. Guild finder is okay, just wish there was a better system to let you know when someone has an application in, I always seem to see them weeks after and the person had moved on. Should be something simpler like a Guild Directory where you can search guilds and have the name of the Guild Master and perhaps a #2 Guild Officer to help assist, and just DM them to inquire. Good luck out there, did not give up. I started WoW trying to give food low lvl food at that to a mage didn't know they made their own food Noob here lol to a Guild Master of not just 1 but 2 guilds. 1 I'm having to start over but the numbers are building and some remember the old guild, I open my friend box and there's just page after page of people who knew my secondary alt, and I've gotten people in like that. Trade chat is so busy on the other server that you never can read what people are saying, so if this is the case for you, then go to the starting locations for the new toons and see politely if people want to join. They are really nice people, but I've been so busy with work and so miserable the rest of the time I've hardly had any time to really get to know any of them. Not sure why I'm writing this here. Back in 2005, the guild I joined was my friend's older brother's one. He and a whole bunch of University friends all started it and we're all leaders, we always had slowly recruited 'outsiders' people we didn't know in real life. It became a very successful guild but real life broke it apart in BC. It was definitely the ventrillo chats, forum and community spaces with online raid rosters and logistics that made it work. The uni guys all graduated and stopped playing WoW. Such is life.
