Brillant video. Thanks so much and you are doing a huge service to drummers with your crystal clear explanations. Somehow I've held down a Metal gig for a decade and half with (as I've only just discovered) a right foot that can comfortably play eighth notes at 180 and a left that cannot achieve 110. Of course I'm now educating that left foot in the ankle technique, but do you have any specific exercises to work on this imbalance of facility?

What type of Bass Drum Pedal you got there on your cocktail table Marthyn? The hoop attachment looks very solid 👀👀👀

For a moment I thought it might be the Schossleitner P-16, but it looks different. Also curious about what this mystery pedal might be. I hope more companies adopt this hoop attachment style

Does these exercices apply to full leg motion ?

When adding in the hands, would it be better to do the left foot 8ths displaced by a 16th so they land on the e's and ah's?

Fantastic (and the sound effect balance is perfect too)! I've been working through your steps and I can definitely say this stuff works. So a question for you - when should you change your tempo, and by how much? I actually decided to start all the way over with full leg (sub-140) as well, and I'm noticing that 5 bpm increments from day to day are effective right now. But I would imagine at a certain point you should stay on one tempo for multiple days, and only increment by 1 bpm after that.

You are absolutely right with this method of progression (by bpm). But from time to time (10-20 mins per day, that's enough) you should try to play some uncomfortably slow patterns, and opposite - really uncomfortably fast (but not extreme) patterns, same with dynamics level (and motion amplitude), reverse sticking patterns and etc. You kinda "swing" your stress adaptation ability. Learning any kinds of new things (not only playing technique) by this method will help you a lot.

It's funny how I not only tend to hit unison with my feet but also when I try to do very fast singles between my foot and hand.

Comfortable starting tempo with the ankle technique ☝️

@@drumtechniqueacademy Doesn't really matter the technique. That's still very fast for anyone starting out. I've never heard of any technique that allows a newer or even just non-double kick players to start at 160.

Now you heard of one...almost all of our students start out at +160bpm when first learning the ankle technique- slower is more difficult at first AND we got plenty of student demo videos on our channel to prove this point. Thx for commenting, have a great day 👍
