Shave soap is great for everyone that shaves. I was tagged by ‪@TheShavingDisciple‬ (even though I called him the shave disciple (sorry)) and I wanted to make something more about the soap I wish I was steered towards, that would have been good for when I was starting out.
Y’all have fun!

Hard to beat the ease of use when you have tube creams. Definitely utilitarian. Super duper easy to make a lather. My favorite tube cream is probably La Toja. Great video sir!

Is it too late to tag you to make one? Is that a thing? Can I post tag you? Love tube cream

Nicely done. Good recommendations. Can’t go wrong starting with the tube cream. Closest thing to the gels and foams that most people are already used to.

"He said really nice things about my channel so I guess I have to do this now" 😅 🤣😅 great video Greg, my first great soap back when I started wet shaving was the Green Proraso, no the cream but the soap, for me it's has perfect softness for a new shaver 👌
@GregTardif
@GregTardif 2 года назад
Yeah! A lot of people have great shaves with Proraso. I think it’s accessible enough too. Good recommendation. (Had to be a bit sassy at some point)

I agree to start with a shaving tube cream could be the simplest for a first time shaver and I would even suggest staying with carts until the lather build is good, then move to the DE after a few lather builds. I know when I started about 8 years ago I was struggling to master DE razor and would swap back to a cart but keep the Traditional shaving soap/cream+brush part and that already improved my shaves. I have since overcome my DE shaving issues and have not used a cart for at least 2 years, although I would like to revisit carts just to see how they shave now. Another fun video Greg.

@GregTardif 2 года назад
Thanks for watching. Yeah, I think with carts there’s a pressure I’m not used to using at this point. The colonel conk double track is pretty neat option for getting back in to cartridge shaves with a good lather kicking, the blade gap is perfect for a thick creamy lather
@unclelshaves
@unclelshaves 2 года назад
@@GregTardif I agree with using minimal pressure with carts and would like to see how that goes, nothing more than 3 blades, CC Trac II would be a good option.

I like the Proraso tube creams. The sensitive was the very first one I used when I started wet shaving. I haven’t tried the Arko or Palmolive, but will at some point, even if for no other reason than simple curiosity.

Good morning Greg, I started with some German soaps first and later worked myself thru a couple soaps like Dapper Dan, Col Conk, Arko and from there the journey got kind of out of control. I really like Fine soaps but did not try the 21 century formula. Have a good one and stay healthy 🪒💈
@GregTardif
@GregTardif 2 года назад
Ah! A dapper Dan man! Cool. I like the 21st century stuff, the pucks are more croapy than soapy. The creams don’t carry the moniker of 21st century (that I’ve seen at least)

the best for me $2.87 Neutrogena Original Amber Bar Facial Cleansing Bar with Glycerin, Clean- put in microwave for 20 seconds ,it will liquify ,pour into shaving bowl , let cool then just use brush to lather .It doesn't promote a big giant foamy face but gives you lubrication and skin protection . after all it is only what is on your skin that affects it not the foam on top of foam $2.87 it will last over a year

Nice job Gregory. I'll save you the grief of being attacked by the shaving purist in telling you that Cella is pronounced like Chella. I learned this the hard way about 10 years ago:) That said, I can't pronounce anything and sprain my tongue from time to time trying to.

Either for beginner or someone stepping-up their way (from canned foam + disposable safety razors) ANY shave soap and either badger or synthetic brush will do just fine. If the chosen soap is of the firm kind or the puck kind, this is just fine. No need for the first-timer to use a soft soap from a tube. There are many brushes , synthetic hair, for less than $15 each, and if you go to Target stores, you can likely find Planet Kind Shaving Soap, the tub or can priced at about $9, I believe for 4 ounces.

Hey Greg, To beginners I recommend Poraso. It can be expensive, shop at Marshalls and it can be found there for unbelievable prices (quite inexpensive ) remember it is a close out store . Sometimes you won't find it on their shelves. Bath & Body carries a similar shave soap "Bigelow." Reasonably priced.

I guess I still have not tried an easy lathering soap! I would have wanted to start with Stirling soap with a boar brush and a a Rockwell 6C with a Derby blade. I have been lathering Stirling soap with a boar brush and it seems easy to get ideal lather. Plus, this combination leaves my face feeling good.
@GregTardif
@GregTardif 2 года назад
Nice! I do like my stirling soap. Have you tried a shave cream yet? I know a lot of people think the stirling or other big artisan soaps can be finicky when it comes to water and soap variables.
@beyproctor7673

@@GregTardif no. I have not tried any shave cream! Can you believe it? I shaved with the same soap and straight razor for four years before it occurred to me to try something new. I was considering some shave creams from Taylor of Old Bond Street the other day though. I have heard they are easy to lather. I’m trying to get my travel shave kit together. I just got a stick of Palmolive to face lather when I take a trip. Maybe I would be happier with some cream from TOBS. I’m still wondering how to best travel with a brush though. I will get some shaving cream to face lather and find a travel brush I like. I did see a travel brush from Edwin Jagger. Thanks for the tip on shaving cream though.
@GregTardif
@GregTardif 2 года назад
I hear ya. I was shaving with the same gear for about 8 years. I have a small Rockwell synthetic brush that I don’t worry too much about with travel or some shops have a plastic travel tube you can slide it in for bristle protection. I think Phoenix artisan accoutrements usually carries them. Another travel cream option is Cremo, it’s a brushless cream, so you just rub it on your face and no brushwork is needed, you can put that in a travel size shampoo bottle or something. Good performer.

Future Greg gave good advice to starting to shave Greg. Tube cream is clearly easier for a beginner. But, what about TOBS as a good cream for a start even if it comes in a Tub not a Tube? Good soap. Good soap. Good soap. Goodbye.
