Finally someone talks about the downside of cocktail !! Deepika's character could have been much more worthy if creators put some mind and creativity in it !
@ashwindsouza606
@ashwindsouza606 2 года назад
I thought Cocktail ended with Veronica becoming a free spirit again? Granted she's more in control of her life now and it's implied that she doesn't drink as often now. Even more so now, that she tried to conform and failed at getting what she wanted. I thought each of the characters made sense, and had an arc, for the most part. Saif's character finally gets over his commitment phobia. Veronica reaffirms her nature by realising that trying to commit to a long only leads to misery, and the other girl figures out that its okay to be selfish every once in a while. There's also the interactions between the three leads. Each of them affect each others character. You may have a point, but in this particular movie I think it's debatable.

She was worthy ! I don’t understand why you all cringe about it! So basically you want someone remain the same no matter what happen to her. One someone felt some strong emotion like love then people change good way bad way , thinks logically , illogically but people changes as new people enter into your life and become core circle of life then it bound to change. You can not remain the same. That boy changed after he fell in love and why you are not okay being girl change after she fell for him? What’s wrong in change ? She was still free spirit and took stand for herself and kicked him out of his life and house. She was dealing with emotions as much as she could.

@@ashwindsouza606 I agree; that's a fair assessment. Also, it needs to be realized that given her grey shades, Veronica's desperation to get Gautam back was beyond palpable, so these histrionics didn't really take me by surprise.

Finally someone's called out what's always bugged me about Cocktail. Why was Veronica so hung up on cheater Gautam? Since when is hooking up with your literally only best friend's boyfriend okay? Except the exaggeration put in for comic effect, Veronica was a Queen slaying it until she bumped into these two - Generous, kind, confident and outspoken - and so gorgeous. Her character deserved better in so many ways - definitely not being demoted to a third wheeling supportive best friend to people who broke her trust.

@@ashwindsouza606 Hm. Different perspectives, I suppose. Gautam got over his commitment phobia when he saw the "goody goody two shoes" girl who wears conservative clothes and gets along with mommy. This is a girl who's literal scammer of a husband decided to turn over a new leaf to give the relationship another chance, but Veronica's relationship could never have worked because .. well, because. The deck is totally stacked against her, as I see it. As for Veronica, the last thing I remember was her running around trying to fix up the two - doesn't it end at that scene where they come over to reconcile with Diana's character and its happily ever after for the two lovebirds? Frankly I disagree in the case of Tanu weds Manu Returns. It's been shown from the starting that Manu followed Datto only coz she looked like Tanu, that was the thing he fell for FIRST. Then we saw him being uneasy with Tanu around him during his wedding preparation, clearly not a man who has moved on. Yes, Datto deserved a happy ending, but who said her happy ending is Manu?

I was happy that datto left Manu, it was not heartbreak but freedom from problems she might have faced. Jammy said he didn't understand why Manu choose Tanu at the end but what I failed to understand when Manu fell in love with datto or why he decided to marry her, just because of their faces. Manu was introvert not innocent in this movie, he married Tanu because he was amazed by her attitude and same goes to Tanu she aslo choose Manu knowing how he was and so in the end they choose each other. Manu even once called Datto Tanu, imagine her life with him calling her by his ex. Jammy also mentioned that Tanu is reason Manu was in mental hospital but aren't they both were there proving each other mental, so here Tanu won the argument so she is selfish. End was perfect I would say, Tanu and manu deserve each other and Datto deserve peace from their problems.

Spot on Dear Anmol on that particular scene from Kanmadam- easily one of the best films from Malayalam cinema. The scene was out of place as was the sudden departure from Mohanlal Sir's character when he suddenly grabbed Manju's character.. That She was shocked to be in that position n later found out that she did care for him is natural but the fact that his character forced it out of her (without patiently courting her n waiting for her to respond) is clearly problematic.

TRP is now after TRPs. You should understand the nuances of a movie before commenting on just a scene. This movie was well ahead of its time unlike the "ordinary Indian kitchen" which was very regressive. If the meaning of being progressive is hurting the sentiment of a community, you need help, Jamie. This wasn't a cringe moment...it can be deemed as the sudden outburst of a character where the darker side of Mohanlal's character came to the fore...which is natural.

Had a big problem with your description of cocktail. First you praise the character of Veronica for being a "free spirit" and "not caring about other people's opinions", but then she cares so much about Gautam's opinion that she decided to change herself. And you blame "gender stereotypes" for this. If she's a "free spirit", then she shouldn't care what a guy thinks of her looks either isn't it? Whether a guy or a girl, it's their ABSOLUTE CHOICE, no explanations required, when it comes to choosing their life partner. A girl has a right to say that she wishes to marry only a guy who has served in the army, as much as a guy has a right to say he wants to marry a girl who does Pooja everyday. Whether they eventually marry such people is a different issue altogether. Gautam wanted a certain type of a girl as his life partner. It's his choice, as much as it was Veronica's to "not care about other people's opinions" Sometimes people confuse "being progressive" with "being a simp"

I think , for a change, you should also talk about serials that really had a good storyline and also the actors were apt in their roles. For ex: Sony Tv produces original and compelling shows and I think it's the only channel to do that( atleast now a days). Shows like : khichdi, powder, dhadkan( currently on air) kuch rang...bhi etc.(I'm sure you'll find many when you do your research) I think the viewers also need to know about the shows that were actually good . What happened to Veronica in Cocktail happens with so many Indian women with those characteristics all the time. The film was just true is showcasing what actually happens and even focused more on the interpersonal relationships among Gautam Meera and Veronica. There's no good or bad.

Yes, someone said it. Cocktail was very very problematic. I still remember, I went with my Aunt and sister to watch this movie. My sister is a huge Deepika fan, am not though. Still her acting was pretty good in this particular movie. After watching the movie I clearly remember; one of the audience was saying that, ‘it was obvious; Saif would choose Daina over Deepika, because she was sanskari and well behaved and Deepika was not; it is a good message to the current generation women, they should know their boundaries, or else they will be left alone.’ I was like, seriously? But unfortunately, still many people believe this and this movie just proved their notion, that they were correct.

I thought Cocktail ended with Veronica becoming a free spirit again? Even more so now, that she tried to conform and failed at getting what she wanted. I thought each of the characters made sense, and had an arc, for the most part. Saif's character finally gets over his commitment phobia. Veronica reaffirms her nature by realising that trying to commit to a long only leads to misery, and the other girl figures out that its okay to be selfish every once in a while. There's also the interactions between the three leads. Each of them affect each others character. TRP may have a point, but in this particular movie I think it's debatable.
@gurpreetjoshi3027
@gurpreetjoshi3027 2 года назад
I have to disagree with the cocktail one. It's not that she is a free spirit and doesn't care about people's opinion doesn't make her marriage material, but as the movie progresses she is shown to have numerous issues, alcoholism, she is erratic, super possessive, and gautam being her friend in the end saves her after her car accident and she deals with all that stuff.

You got it wrong with the first one in the list, “Kitakitalu”. It is a comedy movie which does not approach the subject seriously. The movie intentionally exaggerates the scenes with fat shamming. The climax finally reveals how the husband’s character (and the audience) was wrong to judge the wife’s character for her appearance and no couple is perfect. I hate it when the reviewers call a scene from a parody movie silly. It is designed to be silly. Can’t judge a book by reading a page, can you?!

I have a guilty secret to confess. That first one about the fat girl jumping in the pool made me burst out laughing. But, in my defence, that is the only time it has happened. I love the Matlab Kuchh Bhi series because I wholeheartedly agree with Jammy, Indian cinema is, and has been, highly regressive, and that needs to be a point of discussion. That's the only way we can bring about progress. Still, though, that guy being launched from the pool and landing on a tree was hilarious! For once, the ignorant narrow-mindedness of Indian filmmakers didn't make me seeth with anger at their idiotic viewpoints.

But then eventually he fells in love with the purity of meera.... It's not about the Indian clothing of meera or the free spirit of Veronica... It's just that he didn't had such ideologies while he was dating with Veronica.. n when he sees meera.. the essence of her ..the mere presence of her changed gowtam...nd he started having feelings for her... He had equal respect for Veronica too ......Sorry that's what I feel.

Manu falls in love with Datto with an idea that she is the kind of person in soul that he actually desired in Tanu .. while he actually falls in love with this IDEAL TANU which is Datto!!! So that's why when he realises that he still is in love with Tanu.. he can't make up his mind. Tanu meanwhile throws more tantrums like insulting datto.. and fed up with it.. he makes up his mind to marry Datto.. remember how he tells his decision exactly after their confrontation? But at last he realises that he can't marry her since he is in love with the idea of this 'good' Datto and refuses to marry! As the end credits roll you see that tanu and manu are fighting again over a tie worn by manu. It's a way of saying that they are fit being misfits. Datto's track is for the 3rd installment of the film and that sad ending for her made us remember and root for her more! I think it's Himanshu and Aanand Rai's finest film!

Tannu Weds Mannu, is more complicated the story was beautifully written and actor did justice to their role. Each character has their own happy ending, Mannu was marrying Dattu because of her resemblance and latter coz of ruckess, Datto asked Mannu at alter what his honest feeling is because marrying a man under societal pressure is not her style coz she is bold and responsible and Tannu has been shown to be a character who has zero respect and thought she was entitled for everything realized beauty of life after getting a befitting reply. However, i do agree Datto deserved a better ending but if she had from story perspective then Tannu Weds Mannu would have never made an impact on people.

I still remember how we used to love watching Kithakithalu everytime we were bored, the whole family sat together and laughed hard during the whole movie. Honestly, I don't regret it. We were well aware that we shouldn't be fat shaming anyone in real life, until the movie ran, we just watched it and enjoyed. Also, one of the motives of the story was to educate people not to fat shame anyone. Just saying, you can enjoy something in a movie and still not promote it in real life. You don't have to nitpick everything in a movie. If we are gonna talk about the ideal world in a movie, it would be impossible to produce a morally correct and an ideal movie. This only shows that we've grown to become snowflakes over the past few years.

Many people don't realise how great of a technical achievement it is, considering the visual effects in the Mithun da's clip used in the intro, due to its absurdity. I see movies in layers (writing, acting, cinematography, VFX, SFX , etc) and visual effects are one of my favourite part of it, that whole scene, when looked from a VFX stand point impressed me ngl. coz those weapons floating in the air, while the camera pans around Mithun da means those things are all composited in the scene and are just 3d models (this can be reduced by the low quality of textures used in there no big deal), but the whole thing is so well executed for a 2006 Movie (and I mean purely the VFX) that i must give em props for that, considering how unnoticed it went.

Hello jammy, here is my perspective on character of Veronica, she didn't changed herself to become Sanskari Bahu, I thinks it's much more than that. I think Veronica really loved Gautam but she never realised it, when Meera comes into their life and Gautam gradually developed inclination towards Meera, Veronica felt she is loosing a important part of her life. She felt being used by her best friend and she is stealing her love. She didn't hate Meera but she got really jealous of her. There is a dark trait of human psychology, we often assume that the people we help in their crisis, should always be great full and remember to what we've done for them, we assume that we owned their life. same thing happened with Veronica, she helped Meera, allowed her to live with her in her apartment, spend great time with her but when she realised she is loosing Gautam to Meera, she became mad at Meera and blamed her for using her friendship and good nature. Obviously, Gautam was never serious with Veronica, she thought if she pretended or behave like Meera then Gautam probably might develope his love for her, but in reality it was just ego of Veronica to prove gautam that she can be everything for him and she is better than Meera. So she tried to change herself but every step she took to become Meera, Gautam remember Meera more and more and kept his distance from Veronica, emotionally. Eventually Veronica realised her mistake and accept who she actually is, instead of becoming someone else.

We watch and we leave that movie there only, due to social media nowadays the movies are staying in our mind little longer than they were use to be.

Right if seriousness has to be the main purpose of a film I don't thing entertainment will last long. And if we start pointing out right and wrong in each film then that process would be endless.

Unpopular Opinion : This may sound conservative, but Free Spirited women and Bad Boy Jock guys aren't really suitable for marriages and they are quite fun to date and have a fling with. And for when it comes to marriage you do seek out partners who are more stable, emotionally available and giving. So.. Men wanting free spirited woman for flings and traditional woman for marriages isn't that weird.. I am sure it goes both ways
