No offense to anyone, but it's crucial to understand that SHTF won't be as many think. Unfortunately, more and more are focusing on theoretical scenarios instead of the ugly reality. Everyone needs to keep things simple; simplicity is better.

shtf IS theoretical. as it is popularly conceived, it has never happened before.if you're thinking like it'll be like all those other times of crises, then there's nothing to worry about, because we obviously can survive those. but an unprecedented situation is still something one must prepare for.

If I have to leave I can be in a location in 12 minutes but realize some cannot do that. I'm not leaving my home unless it's on fire.

@@wallacewilliams1494 that's 12 minutes to be to a location with a pond, cabin, running water, woods and no address. There's nowhere around here that you aren't 2 minutes from someone's house, other property, ect. Would being farther away be nice, yes but I would rather be at a familiar place rather than somewhere unfamiliar. This property is family owned, I'm not getting caught hanging out, building shelter on someone's property other than ours.

Back when it was just me, I had it all figured out was just me against the world. Now 50, with kids and health issues, it's hit me in the face I don't think I can support us. Not enough game, would be a struggle to raise enough (I don't think I could and preserve it properly) and one failed crop what then. Keeps pointing to needing to work with others, as bad as I hate that and not knowing any like minded people around. Afraid my neighbors would become enemies quickly. Thought of my children hungry is something I can't think about. It got so overwhelming, I decided I just have to do something, anything, every day to get where we need to be. I think all the time how smart and strong our past generations really were. Hard thing is thinking on if it's yours or someone else, I know I chose mine everytime. ( Know you know what i mean) God forgive me.

I'm in the same situation brother, I'm 60yo. Many health problems from 22y 4m in the Marine Corps. True SHTF I know I will probably die. I just can't grow enough food, with 330 million people in the US, hunting and fishing will not last long. There is a very limited supply of wildlife. That many hungry people will deplete quickly. I have prepared as best as I can. I will bug in and stand my ground! If I die so be it. I made peace with that long ago. If they kill me and take my preps they deserve it! Because it won't be easy!

Bushwhacking, the most satisfying and sometimes most difficult things to do. Very real thoughts Stoker. Most people over 40 would be greatly disappointed after 6 hours walking off trail. Excellent points Stoker! It would be truly amazing to observe the motivational force of preparedness once the emergency is 'realized'! Therein lies the problem for most - not knowing what, where or when and how to prepare for the unknown. Many focus on likely natural disaster for their location, others see possible attacks on infrastructure while others see pandemics, economic collapse and even tyranny. All these SHTF scenarios have individual characteristics to be sure but it's the common denominators - the life altering situations that all these things will impact. Another question to consider is 'how' will it come? I have great respect for the preparedness community - especially the 'homesteaders' who gradually work their way to total self reliance. That is the 'new' or maybe 'rediscovered' true American Dream! However - we might be seeing the forest but not the trees. IMO - the 'balloon' has all ready gone up and the 'emergency' is being rolled out right in front of us right now (hint: has something to do with the fed gov and DOJ) - yet there is little as 'individuals' we can do about it. It's going to take organization, money and 'the will of the People' to overcome it. It's always good to be prepared for emergencies and a bit of common sense goes a long way. Don't look too far out of your own sandbox for the SHTF that will affect you and yours the most. It's very likely we'll never see it coming!

Top, re-supply!!!!! You came close to this. The more complex gear you carry the more you need to think about re-supply. It should be a major parameter for choosing where to "bug in" . Low tech devices that can be maintained on the spot would be the ideal to use. Problem with that is I don't know of low tech things to replace my high tech things. Copper wire to wind a coil for a crystal radio is high tech. Crystal radios get the news, but don't transmit. And I can transmit on my Baofeng just a short while if I have to run it on lemon batteries. That's just one example. I love my high tech stuff, and would pack it along as long as I can keep it working. When it stops, well, I haven't yet seen a YT video on how to start a fire with a dead Baofeng. I've only hit one piece of gear. Can you maintain all that you carry? What do you do with gear you can no longer maintain? What kinds of things can you sharpen your knife with if you lose your sharpening stone? Have you physically sharpened your knife with some of them?

You've spoken about caching in a previous video as I recall...I think it was one of the land nav videos back in the day. The old video had a case of MREs just sitting on the ground. You mentioned caching again in this video. Would you be willing to comment on caching and where/how caches might work? I have "enough" stuff" sitting around the house but it seems to make sense to try to spread at least some of it out where I would be able to get at it if I ever needed to leave.
@chriswhinery
@chriswhinery 2 месяца назад
I'm gonna take a crack at this, if you don't mind... A cache is useful in a few ways. It can be buried supplies along your route from where you are, to where you want to be. It can be supplies in a "fallback" position if you're forced to leave your home...or, if certain entities decide your preps belong to the community. Having a cache (or five) is a good way to protect what is yours. Good places to hide them are under debris. Scavengers are lazy, and won't want to dig through a big pile of fallen trees or the trash outside of a dilapidated cabin or abandoned mobile home out in the woods. There is a chance that the powers that be may have a metal detector, hiding supplies under scrap metal and sprinkling the area with old nails and screws is a good way to frustrate a search.

Well, I've seen SHTF a few times. I was dropped into NOLA five days after Katrina hit. There were NO emergency services. No cops, no fire, no EMS. And no power! The bad guys were making the most of it. The gangs were vying for control, and the firefights were nightly. I next saw SHTF down in Haiti. Dropped in there a week after the earthquake. Same situation as NOLA, but third world wild west gang activity. So I guess the moral of my story... it can go to sh!t really fast. Just depends on the where and why. Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Do that, and you'll probably do better than the majority of people. I do agree with the premise that if you're in a good, defensible location, then stay put. If you're in an urban environment, God help you!

My prep. I live in a Mobile home park next to a forest. I bought many water vessels to fill and already filled. A 700 lb game cart. A shovel. Propane Heater and cooking. Nothing changes. Of course be everyone shooting but they be out of ammo in a week and if you can hide you can live. Dont forget mother nature stepping in and ruining all plans during emergency.

Don’t assume that SHTF will happen on a sunny day. Are you ready if it happens in the middle of winter?

Having hauled every drop of water we needed for 3yrs... folks have no idea how much water they'll be hauling. Watering a garden? Forget it. Buy large quality bladders and barrels NOW.

the 1st TWO things to LOOK @ ONE) how Long and How wide is the Problem .....ONE-a) how Long -- is this a 1 day problem -- a 3 day problem -- a week Long problem ect... .....ONE-b) How wide -- a county wide (like a forest fire) -- a multiple countries (like a hurricane) -- Nation wide -- world wide ... something that is a problem in your county bad storm that will last a couple of days is different then a world wide disaster that will last for years ... TWO) the root of the problem .....TWO-a) -- is it environmental (crop failure) .....TWO-b) -- is it economic (economic or technological collapse) {in Todays world Loss of the internet would make debit cards useless} .....TWO-c) -- is it political (war upto WW3)

I will disagree with you on one point only, about no ONE place that has the resources to sustain... Louisiana is the ONLY state that can truly "stand alone" as far as natural resources... The problem is that most people are too soft these days to be able to survive in rural environments...

SHTF has been slowly gaining momentum since the Federal Reserve/IRS Act in 1913... People still refuse to pay attention. Stop and consider that, folks.

Do you actually mean what you say, or are you just repeating things you’ve learned and theorized about? “SHTF” is about as subjective as your favorite movie, no matter how cool it sounds on RU-vid.

I come from the war thorn Lebanon, i was born there in the 70s and lived there until the war ended, we as a family we were much involved in it from fighting to surviving, but when the SHTF it is not like you guys in the States think, you are fed hollywood rubbish like red dawn and others. Normally when an invading party arrives, you have no chance to survive with all the weapons you stocked on, when palestiniens syriens raided our isolated christian villages, everyone was slaughtered, up to the cows, and it is a nightmare if your women and children where there, and the villagers where fighters with lots of weapons and militias experience, same like you guys in the US. But on the other hand people thrived in cities and suburbs where neighbours helped each others it was a huge family sort of, where it was a big concentration of that community and people managed to fight back and survived well, but as well it was back in the 70s, 80s now i don’t know how people will react. But i am saying that because you see on RU-vid all these loners and me and me 😜 but unfortunately it is a fantasy that will not happen as much as it is exciting to think of it, i dream of it all the time but reality hits me back as i remember how we lived during that time and got out of it. Nice content i enjoy it every time Thanks.

Most LE in rural America will support and stand behind the citizens of their counties and small towns and not the “big gov” from afar if it all comes down to it. Ask me how I know. At the end of the day LE does not have enough manpower to control much of anything if not allowed to control it. It’s much like inmates in a penitentiary, the correctional officers control it because the inmates allow them to daily. It’s all a wet dream for preppers. One could always just plan to do bushcraft and sell Chinese junk gear and knives. Lol

No dispatchers show up to work - LE is blind, if they even leave their families alone, which I doubt.
