5 signs a demonic spirit is speaking through someone
1. Blasphemous Speech
Demons often utter blasphemies and speak against God. This can include denying the deity of Christ, mocking the Holy Spirit, or ridiculing the Word of God.
• Biblical Reference: Mark 3:29 - “But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”
2. Deception and Lies
Demons are known for spreading falsehoods and deceiving people. When a person speaks persistent lies and spreads deception, it might be a sign of demonic influence.
• Biblical Reference: John 8:44 - “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
3. Promotion of Sinful Behavior
Demons often encourage behaviors that are contrary to God’s commands. If a person’s speech is consistently promoting sinful behavior, it may indicate demonic influence.
• Biblical Reference: Galatians 5:19-21 - “The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
4. Resistance to the Truth
Demons resist and distort the truth of the gospel. If a person shows a strong aversion to biblical truth and consistently argues against it, this can be a sign of demonic influence.
• Biblical Reference: 2 Timothy 3:8 - “Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected.”
5. Supernatural Knowledge or Abilities
Demons can sometimes exhibit supernatural knowledge or abilities through a person, such as speaking in unknown languages or revealing hidden things, but these manifestations often serve to deceive rather than edify.
• Biblical Reference: Acts 16:16-18 - “Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, ‘These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.’ She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, ‘In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!’ At that moment the spirit left her.”
