So you made me go into a google search black hole and find out that the Romans were introduced to, what may be the ancestor of the Rotties around 214 BC. The city of Rottweil was conquered in 74 AD. So Romans were using these dogs when Christ was around!!! Though not necessarily in that region. What I found most amazing was a sculpture from 200-100 BC known as Jennings Dog... and how similar to a Rottie it is. This is a 3D model sketchfab.com/3d-models/the-jennings-dog-a3b10c4681e34440aa61ea2c9a80c233
Could you do a video on timeframes from a puppy to an adult the dos and don’t that you did. For example from 8 weeks did xyz with them, at 3 months moved exercise up to this, moved food intake to this etc, so on and so forth until 9months or so?
I yelped at our rott when she bit too hard as a puppy, it worked really quickly! rotties are actually super sensitive and attentive even from a young age.
@@rosaedwards5618 Keep trying, try making another louder noise or use one of those air horns (you will only use it a few times they will get it pretty quick) than offer him his toy to chew on instead
Yeah, small puppies responds great to that. But this is not a good strategy if you get a Rottweiler that is 2-3 months+ old. If you're unlucky a Rottweiler, especially a male could take that yelping as a sign of weakness and become more dominant towards you.
How you treat your dog reminds me of how my husband treats our dog - CALM and PATIENT. And also CALM and CONSTANT. I have seen it really works with my dog when the owner/trainer (my husband) is calm, constant and patient. And wow, you have three Rottweilers and they all behave so well. One more thing, I so totally agree with you on this: Don't ignore the problem, fix the problem.
poor dog he is really confused to da what? rest of your life he gave his paw and you was happy now when he hear No for sudden he was like WHAT! u *serious*?
Yes I can! Soon as the snow goes away we will be out and about and camping and I’ll bring you guys along for the video, they interact with multiple dogs and families ❤️🙏
Mine used to wrap her mouth around my wrist and give a bit of gentle pressure but not enough to hurt or do harm when we 1st got her, she eventually grew out of it, she was a real character, very intelligent and quick to pick up new things, had her for 10 years and miss her very much
Glad you brought up consistency in training with all household family members. It’s key. We had to work on that as a family. And oh, gym teacher here! Thanks for another informative video!
Thanks for touching on the yelling thing. The other night I was yelling because of the pain in the a** crate training. I realized shortly after how little it probably helped. Thanks for your videos❤️couldn’t come at a better time .
I have a 1 year old Rottweiler and he loves everybody in my family except for when my sister comes around he's happy until he smells her and then he gets very reactionary and somewhat aggressive not sure how to fix it
Thanks so much for your insight and knowledge. Literally nothing I have done in the past for other breeds I’ve had has worked on my Toby. I’ve been having the hardest time stopping him from lunging and biting me when walking for potty time. I’m literally covered in nips and bruises 😢 any advice would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if you still monitor comments on this video but I’ve subscribe to you now. Thanks so much for this channel specific to the amazing Rotti breed!!!
This DID NOT WORK for us! I am at wit's end here! We have an otherwise sweet 8 month old Rottweiler puppy, and she often keeps lunging at us and biting fairly hard.... our hands, our torso, our feet, our heels, and i've been trying your approach with no luc at all! We've gotten to the point where i'm now spraying bitter apple in her mouth to drive her away, which works for 5 seconds, then she keeps lunging at us! This is so frustrating and scary!
@@berryicequeeny Thanks for asking. She mellowed out now! She is a sweetheart through and through! She will be a year old tomorrow! Great great breed.... so loving!
@@AudiophileTubes so good to hear she's much more mellow now. My 12 week old is a little pirana atm and im watching youtube training videos as well as waiting for puppy training to start. Praying she will mellow put soon too😟
I have been doing this for the past few dYs since watching this and it has helped out a lot as far as training goes. I have realized however my dog is starting to imitate a lot if things I do. Now, if I do something she doesn't like, she puts her paw on me and makes this short low sound like I do when I say no. I can only imagine she's trying to tell me no haha.
Hey, thanks for the video(s). We used your channel a lot prior to getting a rottie and now still using it for hints and tips. The biting we slowly get under control, she is 12 weeks now and still play biting a little. Working on that and leash training at the moment. I have the issue however that she seems to be very attached, and has better recall and obedience with me, than she does with my partner. And he is getting really discouraged and jealous. Do you have any bonding tips which may make her more comfortable hanging out with him on their own, even if I am in the next room? Thank you (and I hope that this is not a strange question). Happy holidays to you and your family.
Time, and patience. Kita was this way with me, make sure that partner is going out of their way to show her attention. Also I would close the door to my office and hang out with her, eventually I became her favorite human
Hi Colin, I just got my first rotty puppy last week and she is 9-10 weeks old. She has started biting and I have tried the "no", redirecting etc. but many times she seems to increase the intensity of biting and i have had to put her into her crate until she calms down. She is very smart when doing training sit, down, crawl, up, etc. But the biting I am concerned about. I cannot take her out for walks on the street until she has her 2nd shots so we are restricted to our yard. I would love to hear some suggestions you may have.
We recently lost our 7 year old Rottweiler” Ragnar “ he was our world and a huge part of our family. Rottweilers are such an amazing addition to your family but I completely agree they require a lot of training but if you Commit to that training you will have the best family dog and companion that you can ask for. And I also agree lots and lots of exercise is needed as they have so much energy. Currently we are impatiently waiting our new Rottweiler male as we are picking him up in 5 weeks ! Life without a Rottweiler is most definitely a lonely one! Our Ragnar was incredibly smart and very well behaved around anyone and everyone he loved people ! He also was trained German dog commands at a very young age. We are very excited to have another Rottweiler in our home !
Merry Christmas to you too and thanks for all the great advice! It’s amazing how you can find time to spread education and awareness about how good these boys can be. Thanks for that, really. I hope the channel grows even more so more people can learn about lovely rottweilers and how to become a better pack leader!
Just found your channel and I absolutely love it! I just tried these techniques on my 9 week old Rottweiler puppy and she doesn’t pause at all when I make myself big and firmly say no. I’ve even helped like another puppy would. She just continues to bite. I know consistency is key but any tips if she continues to ignore me? I’m trying to stay calm when she continues to bite but I’m sure she can sense my frustration.
I have the same issue, my pup is 10weeks. He sometimes stops when I say no and lays down but when walking, he constantly is trying to bite my shoes😑 need tips too lol
Calm and in charge is the way I taught my dogs too, they are both very good dogs and the loves of my life. Thanks for sharing I'm loving this channel, love from England
Training my 9 week old rotty. Shes doing exceptional at almost everything. Considering she can't go outside yet, we have her potty training on a pad on the balcony which shes chosen to do a couple times. What would be your suggestions for the seperation anxiety? that seems to be the only thing she's completely fussy on. Granted i know this isn't a quick fix, and i've only had her 4 days and shes already sitting and laying down on command so i know shes smart.
Just leave them alone for small periods in “puppy proof” room and or crate if crate trained and come back slowly increasing the time away. This will build trust that you will always come back. don’t make a big deal out of it when leaving or coming back so she starts seeing it as a normal thing that can happen at times. and wait till she stops whining before re entering the room so she learns whining doesn’t do anything. Rotties are strong minded confident dogs they can be left alone for periods fine if trained right. Don’t worry she will be fine!
You make it sound way easier than it is. It’s way more complicated than just saying no, them stopping, them praising them for stopping.like how do you actually get them to stop? How do you actually get them to learn that no means no. Nothing works. WTF am I supposed to do?
I have Rotts and Pit Bulls. They all get along well with each other and our family. My male German Rottie has bitten 5 people in the last two years. He is only 2 years old… and extremely protective. 3 of us in the home and 5 family members that visit regularly including my two Grandsons ages 7 and 12, are the only ones that can. E around him without his muzzle on!!! I need help on what to do to correct this. I have trained all of my dogs and they listen well. But this biting that Xander does.. has to stop!!!!
I have a 10 month old rottie which startet to bite us 5 weeks ago. I did all that and am very confused he does that now. He comes over beggig for patting and suddenly bites. He also claims the place where he lies down. Do you have any tips for that? Before He was very nice with us and the kids, suddenly changed his behaviour.
There all so beautiful those babies of yours. Don’t all puppies bite? they love you look at them hanging on every word you say. That’s just such devotion.
Also how should I leave my Rottweiler pup alone. We’re working on crate training now and he doesn’t whine anymore (it’s only been 2 days!!) but also when he has been biting I’ll put him in the play pin because he would keep following me after I say no. So I’ll redirect it with the pin and toys are in there after the no. Please help!! Since I’ve got him I’ve been home from work but I go back soon. Is he going to be okay if I leave him in his crate for 8 ish hours?
ugh i wish i started watching these videos instead of going straight to a trainer because our trainer didnt help at all w training our rottie🙁 we were taught to do other things like spray bottles, loud noises, put him outside, put him in the kennel, to train him! we’ve been doing that and now he’s resistant to the kennel, and he barks at a loud noise. he’a 8months now and he’s rough with my younger brothers, i train him especially at night now and practice w everyone else during the day😔 he’s such a good baby so i blame us for his behavior problems and lack of research smh.
Man, I do not know what you do for a career, but I am telling you if you are not already you need to be some sort of trainer/teacher because what you are teaching is freaking gold and very clear and precise. Kudos to you!
Why do they still remove their tails in America? They used to get removed to prevent injury wile pulling carts, these days they only do it because owners think it looks better, which is utter BS imho. I don't get it.
When trying to correct bitting (which is hard with growling) nothing seems to work, from a firm no, yelp, or first grab on the back of the neck.. kinda at a loss as to what todo, he’s going on 8 weeks old
My Rottweiler play bites! I personally don't like it.. this was actually helpful! I'm happy that I didn't start too late.. He's turning 1 at the end of July
I have 2 Rottweiler puppies Maximus and Lilly. Right now we’re working on house breaking. They’ve got sit down really well. I appreciate the advice on biting because Lilly can bite a lot more than Maximus. We have been saying no and then giving toy instead but I’m going to try your advice from now on. Thank you
My rottweiler puppy is just 8 weeks old....he bits too hard now even started hurting every nothings work even saying no or giving treat to say not to do this....help me how to correct him as soon as possible
I have a 14months Rottie girl and it’s taken me almost a year for her to stop biting me, however she is still biting my family members when she gets excited because they haven’t had time to train her with her. Like he said in the video it’s gonna take a lot of time and patience. You can’t expect your dog to stop biting straight away. With most dogs it’s not gonna work only after a few weeks, it’ll only slowly start working and keep getting better if you are constant with the training. No matter how busy I am I must remind myself this.
so if my puppy keeps biting my hands i can say “no!”, cross my arms and as soon as they calm down i can pet them to show them that’s the behavior i want?
So you’re saying a mother dog would bark at her puppies and walk away so why should we tell our dog no and instead of ignoring him just walk away wouldn’t that give the dog the same kind of impression as if the mother had done it
My rottweiler is mixed with pit bull. His name is Maximilian and he's very energetic. I learned a lot about how to train him, I'll try some of these techniques with him tonight. Thank you, I enjoyed your video.
For my pup even when I say no he gets mad at me and bites me a lot until I give him a treat I mean my puppy is a husky mix with a Rottweiler should that make a difference?
As someone who was that kid with Adhd in the class, I love the way you explain things!! 😂 Just got our new pup a few days ago and excited to keep watching this channel. Thanks guys
Again, excellent video and spot on advice! I’m so very grateful for the proper education you’re giving to the Rottie lovers of the world. Also, these tips and educational training videos work for all our breeds that are considered “aggressive”, and much of what you teach about training is applicable to all breeds because they alll need a good leader with proper, healthy boundaries to have an amazing forever relationship with their dogs. Thank you for taking time to reach so many people about our beloved breed, Rottweilers. 🙏💜👍
Hello and good day, I just picked up 2 rotties .... brother & sister which are 2 months old. They are total goofballs and compliment one another. I have a few questions that pertain to biting and a few other questions. Your videos are phenomenal. Question 1 - what is your method to stop 2 month old rotties to quit biting me ? I understand they are excited and are full of energy. Question 2 - To start training these little guys what is your method ? I would assume one at a time but if you put one in there pen / kennel they will think they are in time out and will think everytime they are put in there they are being punished.... dont want that to happen as i want them to feel that is there domain. question 3 - they pplay pretty rough with one another and the biting on one another makes me wonder is this a play thing / a dominance thing and will this progress into a aggressive issue in years to come ? I can assume its a play thing at this time as they have so much energy . Its been many years since i have had to deal with the puppy stage as it seemed like i was always rescuing adults dogs. I did have a female rottie that i had to put down this last november due to hip dysplasia. She was the best dog i had and didnt rally have to train her as we had a great bond when we met as she was a rescue. Sorry for the long post but after watching some other videos from other people on rotties i found you guys were the best to ask for answers. Thank you for your time and keep up with the great videos.
I’m happy that I found your channel because the information that you give I can use it for when I get a pet. I thank god and Jesus for letting me find your Channel because if I didn’t I would be stuck watching boring videos!! So thank you for the stuff that you do!!
Hey i just got a rottweiler puppy and to be honest its been exhausting to you know to handle him. His pees and do his business anywhere and doesn't listen when we say don't bite flip flop or don't climb on sofa and most tiring is his puppy biting he just comes between the legs of a person walking and try to bite them u knw it kinda become dangerous.. How much time will it take him to properly behave if we give him proper training
Well that’s exactly why. How can you expect a puppy to learn at 5-6 weeks when the only thing they know is to use mouth and smell? You need to be patient, and trust the process.
So you say not to yell at them… so what do I do instead? How tf am I supposed to “let them know they are doing something wrong” Like is there any advice?? He just says it in a general way, there’s nothing specific to do. Like just fucking pray my dog stops being a piece of shit trying to attack me?
Yes stick with words that are directing away from what you don’t want, and leading to what you do want. In example. No. And then come, and praise with a treat and verbal praise. No don’t pray, be proactive.
Hi, Collin. I am wirting from Brazil. Have just gotten a half bred rottweiller-dobberman puppy that looks lot more like a rotty. She is very smart. I need your coaching!
I can't stop my 15 weeks old GSD stop biting n nipping kids. I redirect but if no redirecting he's back to biting. Everyone is like he's a puppy n teething.
Great vid mate and helpful-I’ve just got a 8 week Ger Rotty-very good temperament girl. What advise would you give to me for crate training for bed time ? She likes to whine and howl when she’s in the cage.
@@TheRottyRanch hi mate, since my first comment she has warmed to her crate and believes it is a safe place for her to go if she wants an afternoon nap haha so the crying and moaning is fortunately more minuscule :)
Having trouble being respected by my rottie. He ignores my commands, but he knows them because he does them. Treats doesn't work too great. He is 10 weeks and now he is starting to bite. Any tips on how to fix this? Anyone? Maybe I need to give it more time? Its only been a couple weeks.
Watch my video on building trust with your Rottweiler. Also, be patient, this will last a lifetime of training. He’s still young, follow my tips, be consistent and you’ll get it 💪
i recently got a 1month and half female rottweiler, i don't have a big yard i just have an apartment and a small lil yard, i put a lil house for her in the yard but she refused to sleep there she wanted to sleep with me inside but i can't let her in, when she's inside with me she keeps quiet playing and walking everywhere but once i bring her to the yard and leave her there then close the door she starts whining very loudly and i was afraid the neighbors will call the police or smth so i tend to let her in again, i tried again thinking that maybe it's just because she doesn't want to be alone there, so i brought her to the yard and stayed with her to play together, we played for few minutes and she went to the closed door and started whining again i tried to cheer her up and play but she kept looking at me and whining while signing to me to open the door. I really didn't know what to do so i brought her to my grandpa's house they have 2 staff puppies abt 2months, i left her there, they told me she played with them and all, she slept with them the first night, but the second day my cousin told me they hit her (she's so playful and eats their food and bites them that's why) and at night she didn't sleep with them this time she slept alone far from them while they slept together. I really want to bring her back with me but i don't know what should i do so she can accept to stay in the yard
@P. Cameron thank you so much for replying i will try i will try my best, i called my cousins to bring her back to me, i will bring her and another puppy of theirs , the one she gets along with, i will put both of them in the yard and see how will they act, and in case they do any noise i will apologize to the neighbors and inform them about my situation and that they should understand and bear it with me till the puppy gets used to my place
That's awesome. You just used principles that are in the word of God. God corrects us because he loves us. We love him back, because we want to please him. I'm very blessed that I saw you do this. Love your channel.
So I have a 8 week old puppy and he bites and when you say no loud and firm still bites I say a few times before I have to pull her off so can I do. ANYONE suggestions please
When they're with the litter, they learn bite inhibition naturally. they usually learn these skills from mama and littermates from birth to week 12. Not a deal breaker to get the dog early, but your work will be more difficult because you'll be substituting yourself for mama and littermates. 1. Wear a bite glove and put peanut butter on it. They're more likely to lick it. When they lick it, say the word gentle or another of your choosing and praise the pup. 2. Once they get used to that word, give them solid treats. Use the bite glove and refuse to give them the treat until they do it gentle. If they do it right, say gentle. When they bite, do not give them the treat, make a yelping sound, and turn around. Avoid eye contact with the dog and give them no attention for several minutes. Repetition and consistency is key. Do the same thing any time the dog is too rough with their mouth. As they learn what is an unacceptable bite, you'll want to then move to mouthing. Eventually, the dog will avoid putting it's teeth on your skin entirely. You may have to repeat the same with friends and family, though because they know that rule applies to you, they will quickly learn it applies to others. You're giving the dog positive feedback when they bite and you walk away because they're giving chase, which is fun. Stand still, Yelp and turn away. You want to avoid following up a bite with anything the dog might consider fun. Dogs learn by action and reaction, but they live in the moment. They won't understand praise or consequences unless they are an immediate follow-up to the action. Same idea when potty training a puppy. Make sure you're also spending time with the puppy and tuckering the puppy out. They pay more attention when they have less energy
I appreciate this immensely. I just bought some peanut butter for her! I will try the glove. I had a 9 week puppy before I had worked with on chewing things but he never growled or bit humans. I will be consistent and let my husband do the same. Thank you so much
@@mph8er So far the turning away is starting to work! She seems to be loosing interest and releasing my pant leg sooner than before. She's definitely not as hyper jumping at my calves as she did when I would walk away. I'm also walking and playing her a little bit evertime I feed her to get her a little tired. I will keep it up thanks again. I was really starting to be afraid of her for a minute
