One thing we all have to KEEP doing if we want to continue to improve and expand our lead playing is…
Build our vocabulary.
You see the blues is a LANGUAGE…
And just like learning a language. We need to be familiar with how to put together words and sentences.
The best way to do this is to work with an instructor who has already done the hard work for you.
Someone who has a comprehensive command of the language of the music you want to learn…
This way they can break down for you step-by-step what to look for and what to practice in your blues leads…
Today I want to share with you 5 Slow Blues Licks over the classic blues standard “Stormy Monday”.
You’ll discover:
-What Wayne Bennett (from Bobby "Blue" Bland's band) stole from Chuck Berry - Use this in your blues solos and you'll make them talk.
-What notes to bend in the blues scale…so you sound like you've studied all the greatest blues records straight away
-How I use turnaround licks to always make my solos end on the right note
And much, MUCH more…

What scale are using for that song. I remember you had mentioned pentàtonic scale for a Hendrix song.

Unsure why you don't use your pinky in the first lick. Why stretch the ring finger? I use one finger per fret.

It extends reach.l used to play one finger per fret but found using my ring finger or even 2nd finger opens up my hand to grab other notes .l go back and forth between what works best.Thats just one reason for doing it John may have another, but l would suggest trying it for me it adds options.

Checkout how far Jimi Hendrix could stretch his fingers on the fretboard. Look up Django Reinhardt & see his amazing playing and stretch with an index and second finger, he lost use of his 3rd & 4th finger due to getting burned in a fire. Everyone has to chose what feels most comfortable and works for them. Good luck. 👍

I was in a car accident years ago and severed the tendons of my pinky, ring and middle fingers & for whatever reason, don't have use of my little finger for fretting at all. I guess sometimes you have to work around those limitations and find another solution.
