Easy fix. Check out the dark web, as organ purchasing is pretty high. If you’re willing to part with a kidney or nonessential lung, you could get enough for the Sony A7III and a few nice lenses.
I just wanna say thanks for starting this channel and the great work you do. I just got into photography and your channel has quickly become one of my go to channels. Your high energy and enthusiasm make all your videos a joy to watch!
You will love it. Look at the Jason how to set up the camera. Say goodbye to out of focus shots. I shot an entire football team head shots and only got one shot out of focus. It was my fault because I moved the camera.
@@JasonVong Hey Jason, I heard that switching your camera from PAL to NTSC formats the Memory Card, is that true? I am on a Canon and I am always switching back and forth from 24fps and 60fps. I want a Sony camera but don't want to lose footage on my memory card. Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated 🙏
I love your videos. I'm an A7Riii shooter. My list: • Sony's updater software on the Mac requires installation of a privileged kernel extension. For people who are not experts on Unix, the extension is very difficult to remove. This is a major security risk, as it leaves your Mac vulnerable to attack. • Sony's menu system is poorly organized, has items with names that are difficult or impossible to decipher without looking them up online, and has items with effects that are not obvious without looking them up (and possibly not even then). This is the largest impediment to using Sony cameras. (You can use My Menu to help find and organize your commonly used items, but you can't name your menu pages, and you only get 4 or 5 pages to use, so you are limited in how many items you can add.) • Sony's Imaging Edge app frequently loses connectivity with the camera, requiring you to reconnect every few minutes. • Imaging Edge can not command the camera to focus. This is a major gap in functionality for remote camera usage. • Imaging Edge fails to transfer photos from the camera, and can not browse previously taken photos. • The camera does not properly establish connectivity with WiFi routers when WPA2 security is enabled, even though the camera supposedly supports this. This makes it impossible to securely connect to the camera from a computer via FTP. • There is no way to close the shutter before changing lenses, as Canon's EOS R does. This results in dust on the sensor. The behavior could be fixed with a simple software update. • There is no way (that I know of) to quickly switch *groups* of settings. For example, the new Eye AF algorithm is awesome. It works best when using the Wide Focus mode and Continuous AF. That's great for shooting people. However, I also need to shoot other things, and I prefer to use Center Focus and Single Shot AF for many of those. Sometimes, I need to switch back and forth between these sets of settings very quickly. (Maybe I'm shooting portraits. A car comes by that I want to capture. I have only 2 or 3 seconds to switch, compose, and shoot. Then I need to go back to portraits.) There's no way to do this. You CAN assign groups of settings to a button, but they only apply for as long as you push the button. What I need is a way to switch the camera between different setting "modes", where I define each mode. • The new intervalometer is great, but you are really limited in the time intervals that you can set it to use. For example, you can't do intervals of less than 1 second, or of fairly long times (I think > 999 seconds?)
'' Imaging Edge can not command the camera to focus. This is a major gap in functionality for remote camera usage. '' I solved this problem on the Sony Rx 100 Iv camera if I updated the application in the camera ( App ), but now there are no applications in the new camera menu of the a 6400. And I don’t know how to solve this problem either
Thanks, I'm new to Sony and that was the exact answer to the problem I've been having and you've been the only one to give me that. That's why I clicked on the video. It's good to read the comments
As much as I like my Sony system and now using some Fuji system, the software and user features make me love the Fuji system as for little quirks could be fixed in a breeze and it’s understandable. Like even updating your lenses and camera all through your mobile app along with more features implemented not needing a new camera model it’s neat. I’ve always had software complaints since I started shooting Sony about 3 years ago. Thanks for the tips man
Just a quick one with Number 5, Face AF over external HDMI. You can actually do this if you record externally.. Go to Tab 5 (Setup) and then Page 4. Option 1 4K Output Sel. - Change this to "HDMI Only (24p)" (or 30p if you film in 30p) and then you should be able to use Face AF even when recording in 4k with an external recorder like the Atomos Ninja V :)
You don't need to register for a Sony account to download. They just make it the first thing you see but you can scroll down and there should be an option to download without registering. I made the same mistake.
Please help with the Sony a 73 color issues all my videos come out with a green tent and I can almost never use any straight out of camera videos without some type of color correction which was not the case when I was using canon especially for a run and gun shoots that are not paying for a color correction and color grading I don’t wanna waste time doing this but I find myself spending an extra couple of hours fixing skin tones to the best of my ability but sometimes it’s just too far magenta or too far green and I cannot find any way to fix this Without manually changing colors in my custom white balance which is just crazy I thought if I properly white balance that should work but it almost seems like the perfect white balance is impossible on this camera
This is like the 3rd video of yours that I watched. I clicked away and was like, "have I subscribed to this dude yet?" (*hit back button to return to video to check) Saw that I haven't subscribed and was like, "I like this dude's stuff, Ima subscribe." (*click) ...true story. 👍
I found one big problem with A7III (and all a7) If you close down the aperture in low-light situation, the autofocus performance will be severely crippled. Because when you do (F8 and above for example) the auto-focus will initial WITHOUT opening up to a brighter aperture like EOS (at brightest aperture) or Nikon Z does (at medium aperture). You will run into this problem when 1. Dark studio environment while using smaller apertures, the focus will confirm slower and miss or simply hunt. 2. When shooting for example group photos with smaller apertures in poorly lit environment, the focus will be noticeably slower or hunt a bit (you need depth to get everyone in focus). I have test this thoroughly and I am 100% confident that this is so far one of the worst problem you could run into for stills. Please try it yourself by 1. Set any target in a room slightly poorly lit (does not have to be severely under lit) 2. Focus at that target at maximum aperture, notice the speed. 3. Focus at the same target in that same room with the same light at F8. You will see what I'm talking about, it has been a huge hindrance in my work both in the studio and at wedding and events that I had to sell off all my gear after just under a year of moving to Sony.
Great video! Nikon and fuji film user recently switched over to the sony system. And GOSHHH! is the system so annoyingly complex. I'm doing research because I'm having issues with my auto focus on my sony ay7riii. None of the focusing system is working. I'm not sure if it is the lens system which is the sony art lenses but its driving me crazy. Also the auto focusing on video is causing me issues. It's going to take a while to get use to this camera ugh! thanks for the video tho these tips will def come in handy! saving it for future reference!
HELP!! I am having a problem with the "File Format" I have it enabled as RAW + JPEG When I change the dial on the top to a different mode (for example, the video knob) and then go back into the M mode, the File Format resets! It is not RAW + JPEG anymore, but only JPEG This happens most of the time! *A7III - Just bought it today
Question 1. You mentioned you ran your Sony camera for 40 min straight for a wedding. Doesn’t Sony have a 30 min video limit . Can we extend that time :( Question 2. I have silent shutter off and e front curtain off yet I still have rolling shutter and banding issues in photos under certain led lights. What else do I have to be aware of ?
Just got my first Sony in the mail today. This video was perfect timing for me. I’m a Mac user and I like to use flash so this helped me out a lot. Thanks potato jet. Just kidding. Great job Jason! 👍
My problem is that in my country all tech is ridiculously overpriced, for example a6400 is about $1300 for body+kit lens 16-50 (while salaries at $300-400 per month mostly). I spent more than a year in struggling to save enough money, and banks declined to give me installment plan despite having half of price in cash (it was most likely because of low income). And while a6400 is a great camera, which I bought up to 60% for video features, as a photo camera after couple weeks of using I feel vert tight, and understand that I need something more close to full frame (or x-t3 as I originally wanted but can't afford it). And yet still there's still a lot of stuff I need to buy, such as lenses, filters, gimbal, external audio equipment (not to mention lens cleaning kit, camera bag, sd cards etc), and all of this is a huge burden for me, and e-mount lens very known for not so friendly prices.
I have the A6400 and during a video shoot I was only using the screen on the camera and about 15sec in the middle of the video I got some focus wobble. Camera couldn't find focus so that part of the video kept focusing in and out of focus. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. FYI I was using AF-C, Wide, and eye detection ON. Could this happen because video was over exposed?
Hi there! I have a random issue, sometimes after a few seconds of turning off my camera I can hear a shoot, yes, like the curtain or the shooter mechanism works one more time after is turn off, is a random problem as I said, thank you for the video, though!
Hi Jason... I'm a big fan... I watch all of your videos.... I saw a external monitor on your cam... could you kindly tell mw which one is this please ???
@@BespokeFotografie True! I just think it's good to be specific. Some might assume that it will not work at all with a monitor not knowing that you can actually do it if you record externally.
Okay, that's terrible news about no face detection in 4K with an external monitor. I just bought an external monitor for my a6500 and was so excited to finally be able to see what we are recording. Now will need to sacrifice face detection for it! Why can't Panasonic just put out their mid range camera line with good auto focus and end this torture already.
I would just make sure the focus area is placed around your face. I've been recording all of my RU-vid videos in 4K with the external monitor facing me (as seen in the video) and it still does a good job
Jason - another awesome video. You rock for us Sony shooters. Question I have: When recording video in movie mode manual. Shutter speed locked, Aperture locked, ISO Auto. How can I see what ISO it has selected? I set my min / max but can’t figure out how to see what it has selected for a given scene. Thanks!
Actually, the first issue is not due to using flash but due to the on-sensor PDAF. It's called PDAF striping and it can be provoked by shooting subjects in strong backlight. The PDAF pixels are arranged in a stripe pattern and in strong backlight capture the light slightly more intensely, which is what you're seeing. E-FCS has nothing to do with this and turning it off will achieve... nothing. There are ways to fix this even with minimal quality loss, if you are shooting Raw. If you're having this issue then Google 'PDAF striping' and you'll find the options available to you. This problem isn't exclusive to Sony by the way, it's just the nature of on-sensor phase detect pixels. Nikon tried to fix it and instead introduced thick banding instead which is less intrusive, but much harder to fix. Pick your poison I guess.
Thanks for the explanation! I didn't wanna go too technical in favor of just offering a quick fix for people who might be struggling on the spot. Do you have an article I can link to recommend to people if they are interested in learning more? EFCS will fix some of the line issues most people will have.
@@JasonVong Sure thing! The Dpreview article will be plentiful for people looking for a quick fix: www.dpreview.com/news/6974141509/sony-striping-heres-the-fix If you want to dive into the nitty gritty technical details, Jim Kasson has written an excellent article about the issue: blog.kasson.com/a7riii/sony-a7iii-pdaf-striping-faqs/
Actually doing a video on this soon and sorry to say but you're wrong. It's the electronic shutter causing the banding. Tested this multiple times. Edit: okay, so after rubbing my eyes and seeing the video clearly I see you're talking about the faint lines in the backlit areas which is the PDAF lines. I was only talking about the electronic shutter lines that happens with high speed sync. So we're both right. 😊
This example does look like PDAF striping but you can get similar problems with the electronic shutter and EFCS under artificial lights which flicker (LEDs and fluoros) so there absolutely are scenarios where going to full mechanical shutter will solve problems for you.
I've actually found updating my A7iii on mac to be very easy.... i don't have to do those "show package contents" etc.. just double click like opening an app. @jason vong weird lines is not showing when i open up in LightRoom or computer, but when i send the image to iPhone (2MP) it shows lines like a very compressed image (when zoomed). i really hope Sony add more option when send an image to smartphone other than 2MP or Full Res.
Hi Jason, I've been having 2 main issues with my A7iii, the first one is, any time I use my -adapted- sigma 70-200 sports lens in portrait mode, the camera is front focusing, even with eye detect saying that the focus is on the eyes. This is also happening with the 85mm, though not as frequently. My second issue is that, whenever I connect an external mic to the camera to record video, there's some extra noise, kind of like a bumpy noise. Hope you are well
I was out shooting last night and after a couple long exposures, my camera went black. I trying pressing the shutter, nothing. I tried to playback photos, nothing. Even pressing the menu didn't work. The only time the screen would come on is when I would turn the camera off, but it would only come on for a second. I am shooting on an A7Riii.
No6 Lack of full body weather sealing? There's none on the base of these cameras, (is this deliberate to help with heat dispensation?), also poor sealing between lens and mount.
Hi Jason, another great video! You suggested we message you with any issues we are having with a Sony camera, and I have an A7RIII that is frustrating the heck out of me when the auto focus just won’t work. During a portrait shoot using a Sony 50mm f1.4 and using BBF, and flexible spot set to M, the camera will hunt and hunt, and not even the eye detect will work. I would say it happens 30% of the time, and seems to be most noticeable when I have a remote trigger mounted to the hot shoe, with plenty of light in the room. Have you ever heard of such a thing, and if not, can you point me in a direction for help? I called Sony tech-support, but they merely referred me to some articles that didn’t help at all. Thanks.
Hey Jason. I get random video breaks once in a while when I am shooting long videos on the 6400. There is a random half splitting of files and the second file usually starts with big pixels like an anomaly for a few secs before becoming normal. What could be the issue ? Overheating ? But I never use 4K.
Format your memory cards as exFAT, rather than just FAT. exFAT formatted cards allow for files greater than 4GB, whereas regular FAT cards chop files bigger than 4GB in size because that’s the max a single file could be.
@jasonvong This is a Sony related question, purchase, regarding your recommendations of B&H. I am seeing a TON of negative reviews on buying from B&H - used products sold as new, issues with returns, etc. Question - have you had any issues with your orders? I am thinking of ordering a Sony from there but these reviews are worrisome. Thank you!!
I have an A7r3 and when I do an exposure over 30 seconds I get hundreds of multi coloured hot pixels in my images. Coming from shooting a Nikon D810 and never having this issue, I'm a little worried.
Jason you can download firmware update file without registering as you stated 1:45 . On download page bottom it has a link to download without registering...
Jason do a video talking about Sony A7r3 audio input jack problems dont be scared of sony it's better to lose Sony than have your audience not trust you.Lets go dont be a pooh see !
same. i recently updated my a7rii and a9 and it was very simple and easy. i don’t remember the exact process but it was nothing like the one presented in this video.
That must be frustrating; I even have full touchscreen functionality on my Nikon D7500! You can use it for shooting (touch shutter etc), playback (pinch, swipe, double tap to zoom in etc) & for all the menu options, no problem.
It's raining outside .... 16degree temperature.... But it's overheat only today.... It's my first time... With it... How I can't imagine... Even though I m not shooting 4k... I am shooting 1080 ,60p Is there's a problem in my camera???
Heads up face detect does work with an external monitor in 4k. I'm using the atomos ninja, and you just need to have 4k output select to 30fps or 24fps, not both the camera and monitor.
Yeah if you record externally in any way 4k face detection works on a monitor, definitely the most handy is just a monitor that can record. You can't have a backup on one of the internal cards and still get face detection either, and I don't know of a way to have a backup from a external monitor/recorder.
The sony alpha 7IIIs does not work in cold weather. I contacted Sony they told me that was normal. In Canada this camera will not work for most of the year. Did I get screwed?
face detection works in 4k with an external monitor. the downside is, that it has to be a recorder like an atomos, because you have to turn off the internal recording. gerald undone has made a video about it.
Hi Mr Jason, I hope you are doing will, ,,, Dear sir, my name is Jihad Bsharat, from Jordan, i have sony A7III, and when I record video, it gives my MP4 format not MOV format, how I can fix that? thank you so much
Hi, I am using Sony a6400 with 16mm 1.4 lense, I am trying to shoot in camera talking video like yours but my face is too sharp, and not smooth like I used to have on my nikon... face doesn't look good can you please guide. Thanks
I can't figure out how to solve my problem at all. I have been experiencing this problem alot lately and not sure if it is my camera or on1 or something else. I will take a photo that is fairly dark i will edit the raw file and brighten it up when i have the image looking the way i want i export it and transfer it to my google drive. The image will then sometimes look completely different than it did on my final edit, the noise level will jump dramatically and sometimes The image will look fine until i go to post it then it looks like a very noisey mess. I cant figure out why this is happening i have had this issue on images that have low iso settings as well.
I m having a double Shutter sound Problem with my A7iii. Whenever i click a photo it sounds like i captured 2 photos... and whenever i reset camera the problem disappears.. and i have no idea where its coming from. Please Guide me the solution. (Note- this problem is without using Multi Photos function on)
Hey Jason. I'm a dslr camera nubie, and trying to use the a6400 as a webcam, but need autofocus on, as I move in and out from the camera during shooting. I'm getting a quick 1/3 seconds or so blur every few seconds, while it seems like it's re-focusing. Is there a good way to avoid that blurr from happening?
My A7 iii hung up suddenly when shooting some videos. So I turned it off and put it in the bag. Half an hour later when I checked, I found the camera was mildly warm and not turning on. So I decided to go home and recharge the battery: meanwhile, checking your video before reaching home- didn’t find solution here. Any other video regarding this? Hope it’s not serious; I just bought it a week ago. Please help!
We get random slow motion recordings during filming. The speed is normal at the beginning, then at random times---the speed/motion slows without touching anyting. what is causing this problem? thanks
*One Biggest problem*, no dual hdmi out when filming 4k, when you try to look at the back of the camera and have it connected a monitor the screen on the camera goes black and you cant see your settings, if you film in 1080p then it doesnt do this So no directors monitor setup
Hi, did You have ever shutter stuck problem?? I had it in last month three times on my A7III. Luckily without damaging so it can get back to start position. But Im afraid when it damage itself and then I will need replacement. But when Ive done research I red that its not unsusual problem... Whats Your experience with it??? Thanks Jason, greetings from Czech Republic ;)
Thanks Jason! I was wondering why when I’m doing night photography the photos come out extremely colour distorted and grainy. ISO May have been high but thought it could deal with this better
My camera body makes a weird noise as I turn it on. How do I fix this ? I tried factory reset, cleaning mode couple of times, but it didn’t work though… can you help me fix this ?
Hey Jason, thanks for this content. Very helpful. I realized that when recording at 120p face detection is getting of. At 60p or lower it will get enabled again. Maybe you also experienced that. Is there any solution you might know. Thank you.
I just bought the a7III about two weeks ago . Is it normal to get warm by the battery and tripod area of the camera after taking pictures for a few minutes ?
