The London Brighton and South Coast Railway Class K were a powerful 2-6-0 (mogal) mixed traffic locomotive designed by L. B. Billinton in 1913. They appeared shortly before the First World War and the first ten examples of the class did remarkable work during that conflict on munitions, supply and troop trains.

Very unique locomotive that k class. The model ran really nice around your layout and watching it was enjoyable. Interesting this was around until 1962 and I’m surprised none of the model manufacturers have jumped at mass producing this. Another great video, Clint at Leila Central

A gorgeous design and a beautiful model. I shall have to check my train spotting books from the early sixties to see if I saw any of them prior to withdrawal.

@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited My 1960 Ian Allen ABC of British Railways Locomotives Part 2 (Southern) lists 17 still in service. There is a beautiful photo (L. King) of No. 32342 in BR black with the tender and cab lined out but unfortunately I don`t have any of them underlined. David.

Another of my favourite Southern classes and another great model on display. I have a half made K's kit under the railway table this make me want to drag it out and see if it can be completed ! Thanks Mike Stewart

Hi Stewart, thanks very much. Oh yes would be nice to get yours built if you have time :) They came out in dove grey originally, that would be an attractive and easy livery!

When I was a train spotter in the 50s / 60s on the high level platform at Portsmouth & Southsea I heard this tremendous noise. On the up line from Fratton was a goods train climbing the incline pulled by a K class. It was switched to the line which passed Stanhope Rd to enter Portsmouth Dockyard. It was the only time I saw a train going into the Dockyard and as far as I know it was the only time I saw a K class. To classes I would like to have seen preserved is the K and D1.

Oh wow what a wonderful memory. Did you get photos from the time? Absolutely agree on the preservation idea. D1 was so elegant

@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited No l did not even have a box brownie 😀 . Apart from a standard the only other 2-6-0's running on the region had smoke deflectors. In my teens l was into pubing , motor bikes and had started work , I had drifted away from trains. Since l retired and joined the IWSR it re-lit my interest and memories.

@@robertpassmore7231 ah yes, if only we'd have realized how things would change. At least we have our memories and models to try and bring them back :)

I really hope one of the model manufacturers pick up this handsome locomotive, I would definitely love an LB&SCR umber liveried version of this, afterall I'm trying to grow my collection of LBSC themed railway stock

Hi Tom, that would be nice, I have a feeling one company did make it, not one of the normal ones but a specialist
@TomDavias

@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited Hi! Any ideas on which specialist that may have been? I remember reading somewhere that no one is making these anymore, so like the real thing it's a missing mogul 🤔

A great shame indeed! Especially with all the Maunsell Moguls around! Pure prejudice against anything « Brighton » probably they didn’t like anything with a Weir Pump or a Westinghouse brake...! Beautiful models there! Good doc and very good commentary...(should have made it longer!) Congrats and all the best for the New Year!

Very lovely video! Really enjoyed it! I've been wanting to get my hands on a K class kit for a while now but not sure how to go about it. Are these kits rare? I haven't seen any on Ebay or even Clark Railworks.
